Transferring data to your Nokia 9300
Select DeskTools Data transfer.
If you have a device that supports data synchronisation,
you can use Data transfer to synchronize your contacts
and calendar with your Nokia 9300. Supported devices are
currently Nokia 6820, Nokia 6230, and Nokia 9500
Communicator. For more information on compatible
devices, contact your dealer, operator, or service provider.
Using a Bluetooth or infrared connection, you can
synchronize your calendar and contact entries between
the two devices. You can choose to transfer all of the data,
or define the categories of data that you wish to move.
Because device models are designed differently, there may
be differences in the way they handle data transfer. For
example, your Nokia 9300 allows you to enter a great deal
of contact information for each contact. Another device
model may only allow a few details per contact. If you
synchronize contact information between these two
devices, some of the data may be transferred to an
incorrect field, and some data may not be transferred at all.
To transfer data to your Nokia 9300:
1 Press New to create a new synchronization profile.
2 Select the content you want to synchronize (
Calendar
and
Contacts
), and press Next.
3 Select the connection type (
Bluetooth
or
Infrared
), and
press Select.
4 If you selected
Infrared
, press Select.
If you selected
Bluetooth
, a window listing available
devices with Bluetooth technology is shown. Press
Search to search for the device with which you want to
synchronize. To stop the search, press Stop. Select the

device with which you want to synchronize, and press

5 After the infrared or Bluetooth connection between the
two devices has been established, a dialog opens,
displaying the status of the whole transfer process.
To view information on the synchronization, press
Menu, and select

.
Depending upon the selected options, the transfer can take
a long time. Make sure that both of the devices are
charged or that they are connected to their chargers
during the transfer time. You can cancel the transfer
process at any stage when the
Cancel
command button is
available.

Select DeskTools Data mover.
You can use
Data mover
to transfer data, such as contacts
and settings, from your Nokia 9200 series Communicator
to your Nokia 9300 with infrared or a compatible memory
card.
Note: Before you use an existing compatible
memory card with your Nokia 9300, you must
convert the memory card with
Data mover
and
reinstall the applications that you previously
installed to the memory card. However, do not
reinstall any pre-installed applications for the
Nokia 9210 Communicator. Your Nokia 9300
contains a later version of these applications, and
these later versions must be used with Nokia
9300.
Before you start, make sure that there is enough free
memory on your devices or memory card for the transfer.
The amount of required free memory depends on the data
you are transferring. If you have a compatible memory
card, insert it into your Nokia 9200 series Communicator
even if you are going to use infrared as the means of
transfer.
Data mover
can then use the memory card as a
temporary storage. Using a memory card also makes the
transfer process faster.
Do not use the Nokia 9300 when using
Data mover
. If
possible, switch off the cover phone, and make sure that
the battery is not discharged.
There may be additional steps, depending on the type of
information you want to transfer, the method of transfer
you want to use, the amount of free memory on your
previous device or memory card, or the number of
successful or unsuccessful transfers you have made
previously. Read the instructions on the device screen
carefully. The instructions guide you through the process
and include information not covered in this guide.
To transfer data from a Nokia 9200 series Communicator:
1 In the
Data mover
startup screen, press Continue
transfer. If the data is on a memory card, insert it into
your Nokia 9200 series Communicator.

4 Press Send data collector to send Data collector to
your Nokia 9200 series Communicator. Data collector is
used to collect data from your Nokia 9200 series
Communicator. You only need to send Data collector
once; if you use
Data mover
later, you do not have to
send Data collector again. Data collector is sent to your
Nokia 9200 series Communicator as an infrared
message.
If Data collector is already installed, proceed to step 6.
5 To install Data collector:
On your Nokia 9200 series Communicator, select
the infrared message containing Data collector
(DataColl.SIS), and press Open. If the Open option
is not available, press Save, and open the file from
the location in which you saved it.
When asked for confirmation, press OK.

cards and e-mail messages not stored in the

, are
not transferred.
9 Press Transfer infrared or Transfer mem. card.
10 Press Start transfer.
11 When asked for confirmation, press Start transfer.
The transfer may take a long time.
If the transfer process is interrupted, restart
Data
mover
, and continue the transfer. If this does not help,
there may be a problem with the data you are trying
to transfer. Start the data moving process from the
beginning, but do not select to transfer the data that
seems to be causing the problem.
12 If you are using a memory card as the means of
transfer, remove the memory card from your Nokia
9200 series Communicator, insert it into your Nokia
9300, and press Continue.
If you are using infrared, proceed to step 11.
13 Press OK.
14 Press Exit to exit or Convert mem. card to convert a
memory card for use in your Nokia 9300. If you only
used the memory card as the means of transfer, you do
not need to convert it. To use the contact and calendar
information stored on the memory card, you must
