qualied agency¹)* in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions and all codes and
requirements of the authority having jurisdiction. Failure to follow instructions could result
in serious injury or property damage. The qualied agency performing this work assumes
responsibility for this conversion.

CHECK SAFETY SHUTDOWN PERFORMANCE
WARNING
Perform the safety shutdown test anytime work is done on a gas system to avoid the possibility
of re or explosion with property damage, personal injury or loss of life.
SAFETY SHUTDOWN SYSTEM
Full Function Control
1. Turn off unit with remote. Main burner and pilot should go off.
2. Pilotgasowshouldstopwithin30seconds.
3. Relightpilotburnerandoperatesystemthroughonecompletecycletomakesureallcontrolsoperateproperly.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR CONVERSION
1. Ifthereplaceisinstalled,turnOFFthegasand
electricsupplytothereplacebeforemakingagas
conversion.
2. LocatetheFireplaceInstallationInstructionsfor
referenceashowtoremovetheBarrierscreenfront
andGlassDoorassembly.Removethesetwoitems
and set aside.
3. RemoveallinteriordecorativeelementssuchasLogs,
Rocks,and/orglassmediaifpresent.
4. Ifthereplaceisinstalledwithnooutsideaccessto
theouterservicepanel,thenallconversionstepswill
needtobeperformedfrominsidethereplace.
5. Ifaccessisavailabletothevalvethroughtheouter
servicepanel,thenchangingofthesteppermotorwill
bemucheasier.
6. Ifnoouteraccessisavailable,thenfollowthe
remainingstepsforconvertingthegastype.
7. Removethefrontaccentlightcover.
8. Removetheinteriorlinerpanel(s).
9. RemovethetwoAccentGlassPanelsandsetaside.
10.Removetheburnercoverassembly.Liftupand
forward to remove.
11. Locatethepilotassembly,thenusinga5/16"hexdrive
orPhillipsscrewdriver,removethetwoscrewsthat
securethepilotbrackettotheburner,thenmovethe
pilotbracketandpilotassemblyawayfromtheburner.
12.Usinga5/16"hexdriveorPhillipsscrewdriver,remove
onescrewsecuringeachendoftheburnerassembly.
13.Shifttheburnertotheleftabout3/4"topullairshutter
offoftheoriceholder,thenliftupwardtoremovethe
burnerfromthereplace.
14.Usinga3/8"wrench,removethe#48oricefromthe
oriceholderanddiscard.
15.Installthenew#29orice.Donotovertighten.
16.Usinga1/4"wrench,adjusttheairshutterto1/16"
Open(Nat),andre-tightenairshutterscrew.
17.Re-installtheburnerassembly.Aligntheairshutter
overtheoriceholder,shiftburnerassemblytothe
right,andre-installthescrewsremovedinstep#11to
securetheburner.
18.Using1/2"and7/16"wrenches,disconnectthegas
linefromthepilotassemblytogainaccesstothepilot
injector.
19.RemovetheNaturalGaspilotinjectororicefromthe
pilot burner.
20.InserttheappropriatePropane(LP)Gaspilotinjector
oriceintothepilotburner.
21.Using1/2"and7/16"wrenches,re-installthepilotgas
linetothepilotassembly.
22.Re-attachthepilot/bracketassemblytotheburnerwith
twoscrewsremovedinstep#11.
23.Toaccessthevalve,removetwelvescrewsthat
securetheinternalaccessdoorplate(locatedonthe
rightsidereboxwall).
24.ConvertthegasvalveasinstructedintheS.I.T.
(Natural)GasValveConversionkit.
25.Theconvertedreplacemustbeconnectedtoasupply
oftheconversiongasandcheckedforleaksatall
connections.
26.Thereplacemustbecheckedtoensureitisoperating
atthecorrectpressureof3.5"w.c.(.871kPa).
27.Replacetheaccessdoorplateovertherightside
reboxwallopening,andsecurewithtwelvescrews.
28.Re-installtheburnerscreenovertheburner.Alignthe
cutoutwiththepilotbracket.
29.Re-installtheburnercover.Besureitlaysatoverthe
burnerscreen,andtheendangesengagetheslotsin
thesidewallbrackets.
30.Installthelinerkit.
31.ReplacethetwoAccentGlassPanels.
32.ReplacetheLightCover.
33.Installdecorativemediasuchasalogsetand/
orcrushedglassasspeciedusingthereplace
installationmanualinstructionsasaguide.
34.ReplacetheGlassDoorassembly.
35.ReplacetheBarrierScreenassembly.
36.Gasconversioniscomplete.
Themainburnerameandpilotburneramemustbe
checkedforproperamecharacteristics,asoutlinedinthe
InstallationInstructionsandOwner’sManual.
VERIFYING INPUT RATE OF CONVERTED FIREPLACE
Theinputofthereplacemustbecheckedasfollows:
1. Turnoffallothergasappliances.Clockthegasmeter
anddeterminethenumberofsecondsrequiredto
consumeonecubicfootofgas.
2. 3600÷time(inseconds)=cu.Ft.perhour.
3. Thencu.Ft.perhourxheatingvalueofgas=input
rate(Btuh).Oninstallationwithoutgasmeters,check
manifold for proper pressure.
Ifreplaceisnotinstalledorwarrantycardhasnotbeen
returnedtoEmpireComfortSystem’s,Inc.,checkofftype
ofgasconvertedtooncard.Also,indicateconversionby
adding“Conv.”behindtypeofgas.

ThedirectventgasreplacewhenconvertedtoNatural
Gaswillhaveamanifoldpressureofapproximately3.5"
w.c.
(.871 kPa) at the valve outlet with the inlet pressure to
thevalvefromaminimumof4.5"w.c.(1.120 kPa)forthe
purpose of input adjustment to a maximum of 14.0" w.c.
(3.484 kPa).

l’enlever.
11. Repérerlaveilleuse,puisàl’aided’unetêtehexagonale
de5/16pooud’untournevisPhillips,retirerlesdeuxvis
quiretiennentlesupportdeveilleuseaubrûleur,ensuite
déplacerlesupportdelaveilleuseetl’ensembledeveilleuse
