Congratulations on purchasing the Ozito Line Trimmer. We
aim to provide quality tools at an affordable price. We hope
you will enjoy using this line trimmer for many years.
Your Ozito Line Trimmer OZLT550WA has been designed for
trimming lawn edges and grass around shrubs and trees.
This product is intended for DIY use only.
Warning! When using mains-powered tools, basic safety precautions,
including the following, should always be followed to reduce risk of fire,
electric shock, personal injury and material damage.
Read and understand the manual prior to operating this tool.
Save these instructions and other documents supplied with this machine for
future reference.
The electric motor has been designed for 230V only. Always check that the power
supply corresponds to the voltage on the rating plate.
This tool is double insulated in accordance with AS/NZS60335; therefore
no earth wire is required.
If the supply cord is damaged, it must be replaced by an electrician or a
power tool repairer in order to avoid a hazard.
Note: Double insulation does not take the place of normal safety precautions
when operating this tool. The insulation system is for added protection against
injury resulting from a possible electrical insulation failure within the tool.
Using an Extension Lead
Always use an approved extension lead suitable for the power input of this tool.
The type of extension cords used shall not be lighter than ordinary polyvinylchloride
sheathed flexible cord. Before use, inspect the extension lead for signs of damage,
wear and ageing. Replace the extension lead if damaged or defective.
When using an extension lead on a reel, always unwind the lead completely. Use
of an extension lead not suitable for the power input of the tool or which is
damaged or defective may result in a risk of fire and electric shock.
It is recommended that the extension lead is a maximum of 25m in length. Do Not
use multiple extension leads.

GENERAL POWER TOOL SAFETY WARNINGS
Warning! Read all instructions, Failure to follow all instructions listed below
may result in electric shock, fire and/or serious injury. The term “Power Tool”
in all of the warnings listed below refers to your mains operated (corded)
power tool or battery operated (cordless) power tool.
SAVE THESE INSTRUCTIONS
This appliance is not intended for use by young children or infirm persons unless
they have been adequately supervised by a responsible person to ensure that
they can use the appliance safely.
Young children should be supervised to ensure that they do not play with
the appliance.
1) WORK AREA
a) Keep work area clean and well lit. Cluttered and dark areas invite accidents.
b) Do not operate power tools in explosive atmospheres, such as in the
presence of flammable liquids, gases, or dust. Power tools create sparks which
may ignite the dust or fumes.
c) Keep children and bystanders away while operating a power tool. Distractions
can cause you to lose control.
2) ELECTRICAL SAFETY
a) Power tool plugs must match the outlet. Never modify the plug in any way.
Do not use any adapter plugs with earthed (grounded) power tools.
Unmodified plugs and matching outlets will reduce risk of electric shock.
b) Avoid body contact with earthed or grounded surfaces such as pipes,
radiators, ranges and refrigerators. There is an increased risk of electric shock if
your body is earthed or grounded.
c) Do not expose power tools to rain or wet conditions. Water entering a power
tool will increase the risk of electric shock.
d) Do not abuse the cord. Never use the cord for carrying, pulling or unplugging
the power tool. Keep cord away from heat, oil, sharp edges or moving parts.
Damaged or entangled cords increase the risk of electric shock.
e) When operating a power tool outdoors, use an extension cord suitable for
outdoor use. Use of a cord suitable for outdoor use reduces the risk of electric shock.
f) Recommendation that the appliance should be supplied with a residual
current device (RCD) with a tripping current of not more than 30mA.
3) PERSONAL SAFETY
a) Stay alert, watch what you are doing and use common sense when operating a
power tool. Do not use a power tool while you are tired or under the influence
of drugs, alcohol or medication. A moment of inattention while operating power
tools may result in serious personal injury.
b) Use safety equipment. Always wear eye protection. Safety equipment such as
dust mask, non-skid safety shoes, hard hat, or hearing protection used for
appropriate conditions will reduce personal injuries.
!!
5
c) Avoid accidental starting. Ensure the switch is in the off position before
plugging in. Carrying power tools with your finger on the switch or plugging in
power tools that have the switch on invites accidents.
d) Remove any adjusting key or wrench before turning the power tool on. A
wrench or a key left attached to a rotating part of the power tool may result in
personal injury.
e) Do not overreach. Keep proper footing and balance at all times. This
enables better control of the power tool in unexpected situations.
f) Dress properly. Do not wear loose clothing or jewellery. Keep your hair,
clothing and gloves away from moving parts. Loose clothes, jewellery or
long hair can be caught in moving parts.
g) If devices are provided for the connection of dust extraction and collection
facilities, ensure these are connected and properly used. Use of these
devices can reduce dust related hazards.
4) POWER TOOL USE AND CARE
a) Do not force the power tool. Use the correct power tool for your
application. The correct power tool will do the job better and safer at the rate
for which it was designed.
b) Do not use the power tool if the switch does not turn it on and off. Any
power tool that can not be controlled with the switch is dangerous and must
be repaired.
c) Disconnect the plug from the power source before making any
adjustments, changing accessories, or storing power tools. Such preventive
safety measures reduce the risk of starting the power tool accidentally.
d) Store idle power tools, unplugged & out of the reach of children and do
not allow persons unfamiliar with the power tool or these instructions to
operate the power tool. Power tools are dangerous in the hands of
untrained users.
e) Maintain power tools. Check for misalignment or binding of moving parts,
breakage of parts and any other condition that may affect the power tools
operation. If damaged, have the power tool repaired before use. Many
accidents are caused by poorly maintained power tools.
f) Keep cutting tools sharp and clean. Properly maintained cutting tools with
sharp cutting edges are less likely to bind and are easier to control.
g) Use the power tool, accessories and tool bits etc., in accordance with
these instructions and in the manner intended for the particular type of
power tool, taking into account the working conditions and the work to be
performed. Use of the power tool for operations different from intended could
result in a hazardous situation.
5) SERVICE
a) Have your power tool serviced by a qualified repair person using only
identical replacement parts. This will ensure that the safety of the power tool
is maintained.
GENERAL POWER TOOL SAFETY WARNINGS
!!
6
Hold power tool by insulated gripping surfaces, when performing an operation
where the cutting accessory may contact hidden wiring or its own cord. Cutting

OPERATION (cont.)
11
Lengthening the line
While the line trimmer is operating, the cutting line (h) gets worn down and
becomes shorter. This line trimmer is equipped with Automatic Line
Advancement which automatically feeds the additional line to the correct length
as it wears down.
1. If the line does not automatically advance, then the trimmer line may be
tangled or the spool empty. Refer to "Maintenance" section of this manual
for instructions.
2. To automatically advance the line, allow the line trimmer to come to a
complete stop. Restart the line trimmer. Upon starting, the line will
automatically advance approximately 5cm. If a longer length of line is
required, repeat the automatic line advancement instruction.
3. To manually advance the line, ensure the line trimmer is off and turn the line
trimmer upside down. Push the tab on the side of the cutter head (12) and then
pull on the end of both pieces of line protruding from the cutter head (12).
Before each use
1. Make sure the safety guard (11) is correctly installed. Tighten the guard screw.
2. Before trimming, inspect the cutting area for string, wire, branches or other
material that may become entangled in the cutting line and thrown.
During each use
1. Only trim grass when you have adequate lighting.
2. Hold the line trimmer by the rotatable main handle (2) and the adjustable
handle (7) for best control and balance.
3. Stand with the cutting head tipped down at an angle in front, guiding the line
trimmer in a semi-circular motion around you.
4. If possible, guide the line trimmer to the left to cut. The line will cut as soon
as it leaves the guard, and the clippings are thrown away from you.
5. To produce a smoothly trimmed area, move the line trimmer in and out of the
area being cut with consistent speed and height.
6. Use only the tip of the cutting line to do the trimming especially near walls
and fences. Trimming with the side of the cutting line may overload the
motor, wear out the line faster, and break the line more often.
7. If the grass is higher than 15cm (6”) high, trim in stages.
8. When the line trimmer is turned off and the spool stops rotating, the cutting
line will relax and may retract. Feed extra cutting line before storing the unit
to avoid losing the line completely into the spool.
9. If the diameter of the cutting area gets smaller, the line is worn down and
needs to be advanced more often.
10. If the line trimmer is not cutting correctly, the cutting line may not be
feeding properly. Remove and rewind the line spool.
MAINTENANCE
Removing & replacing the spool & line assembly (Fig.H)
1. Unplug the line trimmer and turn it upside down.
2. Keep the tabs (e) depressed and remove the spool cover (a) from the spool housing (c).
3. Remove the empty spool (b) from the spool housing (c).
4. Remove any dirt and grass from the spool cover (a) and spool housing (c).
5. Insert the rewound spool (f) into the spool housing (c). Rotate the spool (f) slightly
until it is seated.
6. Unclip the end of one of the cutting lines and guide the line into one of the
eyelets (g). The line should protrude approx. 11cm from the spool housing (c).
7. Unclip the end of the other cutting line and guide the line into the other eyelet.
The line should protrude approx. 11cm from the spool housing (c).
8. Align the tabs (e) on the spool cover (a) with the cut outs (d) in the spool housing (c).
9. Push the cover (a) onto the housing (c) until it snaps securely into place.
Warning! If the cutting lines protrude beyond the trimming blade, cut them
off so that they just reach the blade.
Winding new line onto a spool (Fig.I)
You may wind new cutting line onto an empty spool. Cutting line is available from any
Bunnings Warehouse. Only use cutting line 1.6mm in diameter or poor performance
and damage to the motor could occur.
