The Compaq iPAQ Foldable Keyboard is a convenient, portable input device for your
Compaq iPAQ Pocket PC H3800 Series product.
Foldable Keyboard Features
With the Compaq iPAQ Foldable Keyboard, you can:
Easily connect to your iPAQ Pocket PC.
Type text into your iPAQ Pocket PC.
Quickly access your favorite iPAQ Pocket PC applications.
Enter commands with special application keys.
Travel anywhere with your keyboard and iPAQ Pocket PC.
Connect to your iPAQ Pocket PC when it is installed in a Style Pack, Cover Pack, CF
Card Expansion Pack, or PC Card Expansion Pack.

Installing and Removing the Keyboard
Installing the Keyboard
To install your Compaq iPAQ Foldable Keyboard, complete the following tasks:
Read the “Before You Begin” section of this guide for pre-installation information.
Install the software and start the application.
Connect the keyboard to your iPAQ Pocket PC.
Before You Begin
Before you install the Compaq iPAQ Foldable Keyboard software:
Disable any other keyboard applications that you have installed on your iPAQ Pocket PC.
(Refer to the user guide included with your iPAQ Pocket PC for instructions on this.)
Ensure there is at least 50 Kb of memory (450 Kb for the Japanese iPAQ Pocket PC).
Task 1: Install the Software
1. Connect the iPAQ Pocket PC to a computer using the docking cradle or cable.
2. Establish a connection between the computer and the iPAQ Pocket PC using ActiveSync,
then back up the data on your iPAQ Pocket PC. (Refer to the user guide included with
your iPAQ Pocket PC for instructions on this.)
3. Insert the CD into an optical drive on the computer.
4. Software installation begins automatically. Follow the on-screen instructions to install
the software.
If installation does not begin automatically, select Start > Run from the Start
Menu on your desktop or notebook computer. In the dialog box, enter X:\Setup
where X is the letter of your optical drive. Select OK. Follow the on-screen
instructions to complete the installation.
5. After the software is installed, disconnect the iPAQ Pocket PC from the docking cradle
or cable.
6. Using the stylus, press the Reset button on the iPAQ Pocket PC for two seconds. This
allows the device to recognize the keyboard software.
For more information on performing a Reset, refer to the user guide included
with your iPAQ Pocket PC.

Task 2: Start the Application
1. Turn on the iPAQ Pocket PC.
2. Select Start > Programs.
3. Select the iPAQ Foldable Keyboard icon.
Task 3: Connect the Keyboard to Your iPAQ Pocket PC
To connect the Compaq iPAQ Foldable Keyboard to your iPAQ Pocket PC:
1. Open the keyboard by raising the lid and stand until they are fully extended.
2. Flip up the keyboard connector stand.
3. Pull out the left and right sections of the keyboard until the middle keyboard section pops
up, then push the sections together.
4. Align the iPAQ Pocket PC with the keyboard connector located at the top of the Foldable
Keyboard.
5. Slide the iPAQ Pocket PC onto the keyboard connector as far as it will go.

6. Optional: To use AC power, connect an iPAQ Pocket PC AC Adapter to the pass-through
power port on the Foldable Keyboard.
You can now turn on your iPAQ Pocket PC and begin typing.

CAUTION: Avoid shaking and other sudden movements to the keyboard while it is
connected to the iPAQ Pocket PC. Such movements can damage the keyboard and iPAQ
Pocket PC.
Removing the Keyboard
To disconnect the iPAQ Pocket PC from the keyboard, gently pull the iPAQ Pocket PC up
from the connector guide rails until it is off the keyboard connector.

Using the Keyboard
Configuring the Keyboard
You can configure several features on your Compaq iPAQ Foldable Keyboard. To customize
your keyboard:
1. On your iPAQ Pocket PC, navigate to the iPAQ Foldable Keyboard application and
open it.
2. Select the Setting tab.
3. Do one or more of the following:
Tap the Enable Sound check box to hear a click every time you press a key.
Slide the Delay until repeat indicator to lengthen or shorten the time the keyboard
waits before repeating a pressed key. The right side of the scale specifies a longer
delay time.
Slide the Key repeat rate indicator to speed up or slow down the rate at which the
keyboard repeatedly displays a pressed key. The right side of the scale specifies a
slower repeat rate.
Tap in the Test here: field to enter characters from the keyboard.

Using the Keyboard
Assigning Hotkeys
The hotkeys on the Foldable keyboard work like the application buttons on your iPAQ Pocket
PC. Using hotkey combinations Fn+0 through Fn+9, you can launch a variety of applications
with just a few keystrokes.
By following the procedure below, you can assign different applications to these hotkeys,
1. On your iPAQ Pocket PC, navigate to the iPAQ Foldable Keyboard application and
open it.
2. Select the Hotkeys tab.
3. In the top pane, select the hotkey combination you want to configure.
4. In the bottom pane, select the application you want to assign to the hotkey combination.
5. Select the OK button at the top of the screen to set the assignment and close the window.

Using the Keyboard
Adjusting the Backlight Setting
You can adjust the backlight setting on the iPAQ Pocket PC so the backlight stays on while
you are using the keyboard. To adjust the backlight setting:
1. From the Start menu, select Settings.
2. Select the System tab.
3. Select Backlight.
4. Select the Battery Power tab.
5. Place a check in the “Turn off backlight if device is not used for...” checkbox.
6. Open the dialog box that shows "1 min" and enter the desired amount of time you want
the backlight to stay on.
7. Select OK. Your changes will take effect immediately and will remain in effect until you
change them again.

CAUTION: To avoid a battery drain and possible power loss to your iPAQ Pocket PC,
reset the backlight to turn off after 1 minute when you are done using your keyboard.

Questions and Answers
Below are some questions that are frequently asked when using this device.
How do I uninstall the driver?
Select Start > Settings > System tab > Remove Programs. Select iPAQ Foldable
Keyboard from the list of applications. Then press the Reset button on the bottom of the
iPAQ Pocket PC for two seconds so your new settings can take effect.
I pressed a key on the keyboard, but the letter did not register.
Be sure the keyboard is securely connected to the iPAQ Pocket PC. If the connection is
secure, delete the keyboard driver from the iPAQ Pocket PC, then reinstall it.
Does the keyboard require batteries?
No, the Compaq iPAQ Foldable Keyboard does not require batteries. It uses a very small
amount of power that is drawn from your iPAQ Pocket PC.
