RULES FOR SAFE OPERATION

1. Risk of eye injury--a{ways use safety glasses orsimilar protection.

be caught in moving parts. Use of rubber gloves and substantial

7. WARNING: To reduce risk of electric shock, use only.with an

extension Cord intendedfor outdoor use. A two-wire cordwithout a

ground connection may be used since the tool is double insulated.

8. Cord Sets--Make sure your cord set is in good condition, When

using a cord set be sure to use one heavy enough to carry the

current your product will draw.An unders_zed cord set wit!cause

Remove TRIMMER from carton and examine it thoroughly to

make sure it isnot damaged.

Remove and discard protective plastic clips inserted in

handle tubes before assembly of.trimmer.

TOOLS NEEDED FOR ASSEMBLY

• Medium Phillips screwdriver

• Adjustable wrench or pliers

ASSEMBLY INSTRUCTIONS

ATTACHING THE ASSIST HANDLE AND TUBES

Attach the assist handle to the uppertube before joining the

three tube sections. (Fig. 1}

• The harness Wirethat is exposed between the tubes will pass

through the slot in the bottom ofthe handle.

• Slide assist handle uponto the upper tube.

• Place the bolt into the handle, attach wingnut and tighten. (Fig. 2)

. Slide outer tube up lower tube and overupper tube until

the assembly holes are aligned, being carefu! not topinch

'orcut harness wire.

NOTE: Shouid the outer tube be difffcuit toslide, grasp outer

tube steeve firmly and twist slowly back and forth while

pushing upward.

• insert screws carefully to avoid damage to harness wire, attach

Iocknuts and tighten. (Fig. 3)

ATTACHING THE GUARD

• TurnTrimmer upside down. Slide Guard and Blade Ass_ and

FrontGuard into grooves on Trimmer housing (Fig 4).

- Insert 2 screws supplied and tighten firmly.

• DO NOT OPERA'rE TRIMMER WITHOUT GUARDS IN

PLACE.

CAUTION: THE CUTTING BLADE MOUNTED iN THE

GUARD ASSEMBLY IS EXTREMELY SHARP AND CARE

SHOULD BE EXERCISED WHEN HANDLING OR

OPERATING TRIMMER TO AVOID CONTACT WITH

CUTTER.

OPERATION

THE OPERATION OF ANY POWER TOOL CAN RESULT IN FOREIGN OBJECTS BEING

THROWN INTO THE EYES, WHICH CAN RESULT iN SEVERE INJURY. ALWAYS WEAR

SAFETY GLASSES OR EYE SHIELDS BEFORE COMMENCING POWER TOOL OPERATION.

WE RECOMMEND USING STANDARD SAFETY GLASSES OR USING A WIDE VISION

SAFETY MASK IF YOU ALREADY WEAR GLASSES. BOTH ARE AVAILABLE AT SEARS

RETAIL OR CATALOG STORES.

OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS

RETAINING EXTENSION CORD

Toprevent extension cord from disconnectingfrom appliance

cord, tie cords as shown in Fig. 5, Devises for retaining

extension cords are alsoavailable fromyour nearest Sears

store,

Extension cord should be 16gauge or heavier and shoutd not

exceed 100feet.

HOW TO ACTUATE SELF FEEDING CUTTING LINE

Your trimmer is equipped with an Automatic LitheFeed head,

Whenever sw_tchisdepressed, thehead will advance the

cutting line. Allowtrimmer to stop before restarting toadvance

mere line, Avoid frequent starting and stopping oftrimmer. This

may cause unnecessary use of the line.

The line cutter mounted in the guard willautomatically cut the

line tothe correct length.

IMPORTANT:

Remove protective cover from the cuttingblade before

operating trim met,

CAUTION: The cutting blade mountedin the guard assembJyis

extremely sharp and care should be exercisedwhen handling or

operating trimmer to avoid contact with cutter,

BEFORE OPERATING

Before operating your trimmer, read and understand the

RULES FOR SAFE OPERATION,

* Always wear safety goggles ora safety mask

• Cut to your LEFT skfe.

• Keep people away from you.

a,Inspect the areas you are goingto trimfor wires, cord and any

String-like matter to prevent them from getting tangle d in the

cutting head.

HOW TO OPERATE

Hotd trimmerin a comfortabte uprightposition and depress

triggerswitch. Swing trimmer slowly from righttoleft using a

sweeping motion, keeping the cutting head off the ground.

Formost trimming,the Trimmer Head should be tilted tothe left

side approximately10to 30 degrees. {Fig 6)

NOTE: The tipof the nylon line doesthe cutting. Do not force

more Ofthe lineinto the material being cuL Best results are

obtained with properlength line and maintaining fultmotor

speed.

OPERATING TIPS

The trimmer will stir up dust particles which may get intoyour

eyes, Wear safety goggles or safety mask to prevent this. When

you cut tothe LEFT SIDE, your trimmer willslingparticles

FORWARD, away from you. When you cut to the RIGHT SIDE, it

wil!slingparticles BACK toward you. ALWAYS_,UT TO THE

LEFT SiDE ONLY.

Your trimmer can slingobjects with adequate velocitytocause

harm to others. It wiUALWAYS sling small particles ofdirt Wear

pants to protect your legs and KEEP PEOPLE AWAYFROM

YOU when using your trimmer just to be safe.

CHANGING HANDLE POSI_rlON

1, Unplug power cord to avoid accidents.

2, Grasp tube grip.

3. With other hand, support housing rear.

4. Pull tube away from trimmer housing (Fig 7). This will

disengage the locking pin and the handle tube wilf

pivot freely.

5. Rotate to desired position and release handle tube,

SPOOL REPLACEMENT

• Stop motorand unplugpower cord.

• Push in button (marked "PUSH") toe°ted on head and remove

cover. Do not force. No tools needed. Use finger pressure only.

o Lift out spoo_and replace with new spool and line.

See RECOMMENDED REPLACEMENT PARTS & CAUTION

below,

-Keeping line tightly wound on spool, set spool into-head

housing, guiding approx.3to 4 inches of line lhrough the

opening.

• Replace cover.

IF LINE DOES NOT FEED

• Stop motor and unplugpower cord.

• Push inbutton (marked "PUSH") located on head and remove

cover and spool. Do not force. No tools needed. Use finger

pressure only:

• Check to make sure lineiswound in direction indicated on

spool and that the spout isnot overfilled or jarnmed.

• Separate strands oftangled lineor install new line if

necessary.

,, Replace spool and cover.

REWINDING SPOOL

t Stop motor and unplugpower cord.

t. Push in button (marked "PUSH") located on head and remove

cover. Do notforce. No tools are necessary. Use finger

pressure only.

= Lift out spoo! to rewlnd with new line.Remove any old linefrom

spool.

See RECOMMENDED REPLACEMENT PARTS & CAUTION

below.

Do not wind more than atotal of 17feet ofline onto spool

• Secure new line tospool by slippingit intothe tapered slot

(located in topof line spool)and sliding line towards the

narrow part of the slot.

. Wind the line side by side (do notcrossover or crisscross) in

the direction indicated onthe spool.(Fig.9)

IMPORTANT: It you wind inthe opposite direction, the linewill

not feed.

- Keeping line tightly woundon spool,set spool into head

housing, guiding approx. 3 to 4 inches of linethrough the

opening.

• Replace cove_

NOTE: After rewinding, line may be held in position by

inserting the end ofthe line into the retaining slot.

your present spool.
