OPERATION
Automatic Operation Sequence
The generator’s control board constantly monitors utility
voltage. Should utility voltage drop below a preset level, the
control board signals the engine to crank and start. When
the utility voltage is restored above a preset voltage level,
the engine is signaled to shut down. The system operation is
not adjustable and is sequenced by sensors and timers on
the control board as follows:
Utility Voltage Dropout Sensor
This sensor monitors utility source voltage.
If utility source voltage drops below 70% of the nominal
supply voltage, the sensor energizes a 3 second timer.
The timer is used to sense low voltage conditions.
Once the time has expired, the engine will crank and
start.
Engine Cool-Down Timer
When utility power is sensed and the load transfers to the
utility source, the engine will go into a cool down period as
described below:
If the generator has run for MORE than 5 minutes, once
the utility transfer occurs, the engine will continue to run
for about 1 minute before shutting down.
If the generator has run for LESS than 5 minutes, once
the utility transfer occurs, the engine will continue to run
until 5 minutes has elapsed before shutting down.
Exercise Timer
The generator is equipped with a weekly exercise timer.
During the exercise period, the generator runs for 20
minutes and then shuts down.
The generator does not supply power to the home during
the exercise cycle. The control panel displays “GENERATOR
READY” during the exercise cycle.
The generator is set to run the exercise cycle on Tuesday at
2:00 PM. To change exercise cycle timer settings refer to the
General Set-up Screen flow chart in the Menu section.

no operator present. For that reason, the system is equipped
with sensors that automatically shut down the generator in
the event of potentially damaging conditions, such as low oil
pressure, high temperature, overspeed, or other conditions.
CAUTION
Auto start of Machinery - Installing the
15 Amp fuse could cause the engine to crank
and start at any time without warning resulting in
minor to moderate injury.
DO
Do remove the 15A fuse before maintaining
and/or servicing generator.
DO NOT
Do not reinstall 15A fuse until after
maintaining and/or servicing generator

15
The generator’s control board displays service codes. The
service code descriptions are listed below:
Low Battery Voltage: This condition occurs if the battery
voltage drops below the preset value. This condition may
be caused by a faulty battery or battery charge circuit. See
Battery Charge Circuit.
Under Voltage: This condition occurs if the generator
output voltage is less than the preset value. This condition
may be caused by a restriction in the fuel ow, the electronic
governing system not functioning properly, a broken or
disconnected signal lead, a failed alternator winding, the
control board circuit breaker is open or the generator is
overloaded.
Over Voltage: This feature protects devices connected to
the transfer switch by shutting the generator down if the
generator output voltage is greater than the preset value.
This condition may be caused by a failed voltage regulator,
alternator excitation circuit or a load imbalance.
Low Oil Pressure: The unit is equipped with an oil
pressure switch that uses normally closed contacts held
open by engine oil pressure during operation. The switch
contacts will close and the engine will shut down if oil
pressure drops below the rated value. This condition may be
caused by low oil volume.
Engine Does Not Start: This feature prevents the
generator from damaging itself if it continually attempts to
start despite another problem, such as no fuel supply. Each
time the system is directed to start, the unit will crank for 10
seconds, pause for 10 seconds, and repeat. If the system
does not begin producing electricity after approximately 2
minutes, the unit will stop cranking. The most likely cause
of this problem is no fuel supply or incorrect fuel selector
setting.
Generator Sense Fault: This fault will occur if the generator
is in the o state and the control panel measures a signal
from the generator output.
Low Frequency: This feature protects devices connected
to the transfer switch by shutting the generator down if the
engine runs slower than 45 Hz for 3 seconds. This condition
may be caused by a failed engine component, electronic
governor system, or excessive loads on the generator.
Engine Overspeed: This feature protects devices
connected to the transfer switch by shutting the generator
down if the engine runs faster than 55Hz for 3 seconds. This
condition may be caused by a problem within the electronic
governor system.
High Oil Temperature: The unit is equipped with an oil
temperature switch that uses normally open contacts. The
contacts will close and the engine will shut down if the
temperature exceeds the rated value. This condition may be
caused by running the generator with the panels removed,
the roof open, an obstructed air inlet or exhaust port, or
debris in the engine compartment.
Transfer Switch Service Code (if equipped): This feature
senses an open condition in the transfer switch circuitry. This
condition may be caused by a blown fuse in the transfer
switch.
Battery Charge Circuit: This feature senses an open
condition in the battery charge circuitry. This condition may
be caused by a blown fuse in the control panel.
Reset Service Code Detection System
The service code detection system must be reset each time
it activates. Contact a qualied professional for technical
problems associated with Service Code Detection System.
To reset code detection system:
1.
Open roof of generator.
2. Set generator’s circuit breaker to its OFF position.
3.
Remove 15A fuse from control board. Wait 30 seconds.
Reinstall fuse.
4.
Press and hold the control board AUTO button. Wait
30 seconds to allow generator to start as conditions
warrant.
