SAFETY PRECAUTIONS
1. The d esign of th is prod uct conta ins sp ecial hard ware, many
circuit s and components specially for safety purposes. For
con tinued prot ection , n o chan g es sh ou ld b e ma de to the o riginal
d esign unless a uth orized in writing by th e manu fact urer.
Replacem en t p arts must b e id ent ic al to thos e u sed in th e or igin al
circu it s. S er vice sho uld be p er formed by qu alif ied pers on nel
on ly.
2. Alte r ation s of t he desig n or circuitry of t he pr od ucts should not be
made. Any design alterations or additions will void the
manu fact urer's warra nt y and will f urth er r elieve t he manu factu rer
of r esponsib ility for perso na l injury or p r op erty d am ag e r esult ing
th er efrom.
3. Man y e lectrical an d m echanica l parts in th e pr od ucts ha ve
special safety-related characteristics. T hese characteristics are
oft en no t e viden t f r om visua l insp ection n or can t he pro tect io n
aff orde d by th em nece ssarily b e ob tain ed b y u sin g r ep lacem en t
compo ne nts rated f or highe r vo ltag e, watt ag e, etc. Rep lacement
p arts whic h ha ve th ese sp ecial s afet y ch aract erist ics ar e
identified in the parts list of Servic e manual. El ec tric al
components having su ch features are identified by shading
on the sche matic s and by (!

manual. The us e of a sub stitu te rep lacemen t which do es not
h ave th e same saf ety charact erist ics as t he reco mmende d
replac ement par t shown in th e p ar ts list of S ervice m an ual may
cause shock, fire, or other hazards .
4. Do n't shor t between the LIVE side ground and ISOLATED
(NEUTRAL) side ground or EARTH side ground when
repairing.
Some model's power circuit is partly different in the GND. The
diff erenc e of th e G ND is shown b y th e LIV E : ( ") side GND, the
ISO LATE D(NEUTRAL) : (#) side G ND and EARTH : ($) side
GND. Don't short b et ween th e LIV E sid e GND an d
ISO LATE D(NEUTRAL) side GND or EARTH side GND and
n ever measure wit h a m ea suring a ppa ratus (oscilloscope etc.)
th e LI VE sid e GND an d IS OLA TED(NE UTRAL ) side G ND or
EARTH side GND at th e s ame time.
If above note will not be kept, a fuse or any parts will be broken.
5. If any repair has been made to the chassis, it is recommended
th at t he B1 set ting should be checked or adju ste d (Se e
ADJUSTMENT OF B 1 POWE R SUPPL Y).
6. The high volta ge app lie d t o th e pictu re tu be mu st con form wit h
th at sp ecified in S er vice man ual. E xcessive h igh vo lt ag e can
cau se an incr e ase in X-Ray emission , arcing an d possib le
component damage, therefore operation under excessive high
voltage conditions should be kept to a minimum, or should be
preve nt ed. If s ever e arc in g occurs, r em ove t he AC power
immed iate ly an d de termine th e cause b y visua l inspect ion
(in cor r ect installat ion, cracke d or melte d high volt age harn ess,
p oor soldering, et c.). To maint ain the p rope r min imu m level of
sof t X-Ray em ission, c omp on en ts in th e high voltag e cir cuitr y
includ ing t he pict ure tu be must b e t he e xact rep laceme nts or
alte rnat ives ap prove d b y th e ma nuf act urer of th e c omplet e
prod uct.
7. Do not c hec k high volt ag e b y dr awing an arc. Use a high volt ag e
meter or a hig h v oltag e prob e wit h a V TVM. Discharge th e
picture tube before attempting meter connection, by connecting
a clip le ad to th e grou nd f rame a nd c onn ectin g th e oth er end of
the lead through a 10k 2W resisto r to the an od e b utt on .
8. W hen se rvice is requ ir e d, ob serve th e original lea d dr ess. E xtra
prec aut ion sh ou ld b e g ive n t o assure correct lead dress in th e
high voltag e circuit a rea. W here a s hort circuit h as occu rre d,
th ose co mp on ent s tha t indica te evide nce of ove rhea ting should
b e re placed. A lwa ys u se th e manuf act urer's r ep lacem en t
components.
9. Isolation Check
(Safety for Electrical Shock Hazard)
Af ter re-ass emblin g th e p rodu ct, always perf orm an isolat ion
ch eck on the expo sed me tal p ar ts of t he cabin et (a nte nn a
ter m inals, vid eo /au dio inpu t and ou tpu t t er minals, Con trol kn obs,
metal cabin et, screwhead s, ea rph one jack, contr ol shaf ts, etc.)
to be su re th e p rodu ct is s af e t o o pe r ate with ou t d an ger of
elect rical shoc k.
(1) Dielectric Strength Test
The iso lation be tween the A C prima ry circu it an d all me tal par ts
exp ose d t o th e us er, p ar ticularly an y e xp os ed met al p art h aving a
retu rn p ath to t he chass is should withs tan d a volt age of 3 000 V
AC (r.m.s.) for a period of one second.

rate d up to 12 0V , an d 3 00 0V AC (r.m. s.) to an ap pliance rat ed
200V or more, for a period of one second.)
This method of test requires a test equipment not generally found
in t he servic e trad e.
(2) Leakage Current Check

isolatio n tr ansf ormer du ring this ch eck.). Usin g a " Lea kag e
Current Teste r", me asure th e lea kag e cu rre nt f rom each exposed
metal p art of the ca bine t, p art icu larly any expos ed me tal p art
h aving a re turn pa th to t he ch assis , t o a kn own go od ea rt h
grou nd (water pipe, e tc.). An y leakage cur r en t must n ot e xceed
0.5mA AC (r.m.s.).
Howeve r, in trop ic al area, th is mu st no t exce ed 0.2 mA AC
(r.m.s.).

h aving 100 0 oh ms pe r volt or more sens it ivity in th e fo llowing
mann er . Con nec t a 1 50 0 10W res ist or par a lle led b y a 0.1 5µF
AC-type c apa cit or bet we en an exposed met al part a nd a kno wn
g ood e ar th gro un d (wa ter pipe, etc.). Meas ure th e A C vo lt ag e
across th e r es ist or with th e AC voltmeter . M ove th e resistor
con nec tion to e ach exp osed metal part, p art icularly a ny exposed
metal p art havin g a retu rn pat h to t he chassis, an d measu r e th e
AC voltag e ac ross the res ist or . No w, reverse th e plu g in th e AC
ou tlet and re pe at eac h m ea surement. An y volt ag e me asured
must not exc eed 0.75V AC (r.m. s.). This c orre sponds to 0.5mA
AC (r.m.s.).
However, in tropical area, this must n ot exce ed 0.3V AC ( r.m.s.).
This corresponds to 0.2mA AC (r.m.s.).

1) Pull out the ch assis . (Refer to REMOV ING THE CHASSIS).
2) Erect the c hassis vertically so that you c an easily check the
b ack side of th e PW B oard.

REMOVING T HE CRT
Replacem en t of th e CRT sho uld be p er for m ed b y 2 or more
p ers ons.
After removing the cover, chassis etc.,
1. Pu tting th e CRT c han ge ta ble o n sof t cloth , th e CRT cha ng e ta ble
sh ould also be c overed with s uch soft clot h (sho wn in Fig. 3) .
2. While kee ping th e s urf ac e of CRT down , mou nt the TV s et o n t he
CRT change table balanced will as shown in Fig.4.
3. Remove 4 sc re ws marke d by arro ws with a b ox type screw driver
as s hown in Fig. 4.
Sinc e th e cabinet will drop when screws h ave been remove d, b e
sure t o su pport t he cabinet with hands.
4. After 4 screws have been removed, put the cabinet slowly on
cloth (At this time, be ca refully so as not to damage the front
surfac e of th e c abinet) sh own in Fig. 5.
The CRT sh ould b e ass embled according to th e o pp osite
sequence of its dismounting steps.
The CRT chan ge ta ble sh ou ld pref er ab ly be sma ller tha t th e CRT
surfac e, and its height b e abo ut 35c m. ( Fig.3 )
Ab out CRT S p acer (Fig.4 )
An a ppro pria te CRT spacer shou ld be us ed in t he co rresp on ding
CRT in acc or dan ce with th e t yp e of t he CRT.
When a CRT is replace d, special att ention sho uld be p aid to t his
matter.
COATING OF SILICON GREASE FOR ELECTRICAL
INSULATION ON THE CRT ANODE CAP SECTION.
Su bse qu ent to re place ment of th e CRT an d HV tran sformer o r
repa ir of th e a no de cap, etc. b y dismounting the m, b e sure to
coa t silic on gr eas e f or elect rical insulat ion as shown in Fig.6 .

Coat silicon grea se on t he section arou nd the an od e b utt on. At
this time, take care so that any silicon greas es dose not stick to
the anode button. (Fig.7)

REPLACEMENT OF MEMORY ICs
1. Memory ICs
This TV use memory ICs. In the memory ICs, there are memorized data
for correctly op eratin g th e vid eo an d def lection circu its . W h en r ep lacing
memory ICs, b e s ure t o us e ICs wr itte n with th e initial values of da ta.
2. Procedure for replacing memory ICs
(1) Power off
Switch the p ower of f an d un plug th e p ower cor d f rom t he wall outlet.
(2) Repla ce ICs.
Be sure to use memory ICs written with the initial data values.
(3) Power on
Plug th e p ower c ord int o th e wall outlet and switch the po wer on .
(4) Check and s et SY STEM CO NSTANT SET :

1) Press the DISP LA Y ke y an d t he PICTURE TUBE ke y of th e REM OTE CONTRO L UNIT simultan eo usly.
2) The SERVICE MENU screen of Fig. 1 will be displayed.
3) W hile th e SERVI CE M ENU is dis playe d, p ress t he DISP LA Y key an d PI CTURE TUBE ke y simulta neo usly, an d t he S YSTE M
CONSTANT S ET scr een of Fig. 2 will be display ed.
4) Check th e set ting valu es of th e S YSTEM CONSTANT SET of Tab le 1 . If th e value is d if fer e nt, select the setting it em with the
FUNCTION UP/DOWN key, and set the correct value with the FUNCTION -/+ key.
5) Press the MENU(OK) key to memorize the setting value.
6) Press the INFORMATION key, and return t o t he normal screen.

(6) Setting of SERVICE MENU

SERVICE ADJUSTMENTS
BEFORE STARTING SERVICE ADJUSTMENT
1. There ar e 2 w ays of adjusting this TV: One is wi th the
REMOTE CONTROL UNIT and the other is the conventional
method using adjustment parts and components.
2. The setting (adjustment) using the REMOTE CONTROL
UNIT is made on the basis of th e initial setting values. The
se tting va lues whic h a dj ust the sc ree n to the opt imum
condition can be different from the initial setting values.
3. Make s ure th at conn ect ion is c orrect ly made t o AC p ower
sourc e.
4. Turn on th e power of th e TV a nd m easuring instrumen t for
warmin g u p f or at least 30 minut es bef ore sta rt in g adjustm ent .
5. If th e r ec eive or input sig nal is not sp ecified , use t he most
ap pr op riate s igna l f or a djust ment.
6. Never touch parts (such as variable resis tor s, t r ansf ormers and
condensers) not shown in the adjustment items of this
se rvic e adjust ment.
