- Because of the CD player’s extremely low noise and
wide dynamic range, there mightbe atendency to turn
the volume on the amplifierunnecessarily high. Doing
so may produce an excessively large output from the
amplifierwhich could damage your speakers.
Sudden changesinthe ambienttemperaturemaycause
condensationtoformonthe opticallensinsidethe unit.
Ifthis happens, takeout the disc, Ieavethe unitwiththe
disctray extended for about 1 hour,and then proceed
to operate.
The system’sspeakers use powerfulmagnets. Do not
placetimepieces, creditcards orother magneticcards,
cassette tapes, video tapes or other magnetic tapes
near the speakers.

ADJUSTING THE CLOCK
“0:00’ blinkswhen the mainslead isconnected to the AC
outletfor the firsttime.
Example:To set “7:30”,
1. Pressthe CLOCK switchfor 1 or more seconds.

The time can be set accurately by pressing the
MEMORY switchwhen a time signal is heard.
These operationscan be done, even ifthe powerisoff.
When a powerfailureoccurs,the memorycontentswill
be retained for one-half day, but the clock willblinkat
that time. Reset the time when the display blinks be-
cause ofa powerfailure.Resetthe timerON/OFF times
as well.

BEFORE OPERATION
Turn down the VOLUME control so that the sound will
not suddenly be delivered at a high level.
Pressthe POWER switch.
To turn offthe power, press itagain. The clock display
and
POWER indicator remain lit.
While the SOUND ON/OFF indicator is lighting, no
sound is obtained from the speakers or headphones.
Turn itoff by pressingthe SOUND ON/OFF switch.
When the power is switched ON:

The VOLUME indicator, one of the function indicators
and display light.
CD playec
If the function is “CD”,
“no dISC” appears on the
display. If a disc has been placed on the disc tray, its
total number of tracks and total playtime appear. Wmh
any otherfunction, “Cd OFF” appears.
Adjusting the volume
Turn the VOLUME control or press the “+” or” -” VOL
switchon the remote control.
OR
To mute the sound temporarily
Pressthe SOUND ON/OFF switch,The SOUND ON/OFF
indicatorlights.Pressthe SOUND
ON/OFF switchagainto
restorethe previoussound level.
Adjusting the left/right speaker balance
Use
the BAIANCE controlto adjust the left/rightspeaker
balance. Normally,it is kept at itscentre position.
Selecting the function
The
function is automatically selected when CD play or
tape playback is stafted, or when any of the function
switcheson the tuner have been operated.
- When the function selection is changed, CD play or
tape playback isautomaticallystopped. (exceptduring
tape dubbing.)
- Pressthe PHONO orAV functionswitchforturntableor
compatible audio/video equipment operation.
Surround
sound system
Pressthe SURROUND switch.The SURROUND indicator
lightsand a “Wide” effect iscreated.
- The surround effectcannot be activated whileyou are
listeningto monauralsound.
Base expander system
Press the BASSXPANDER switch to enhance the bass
sound. The BASSXPANDERindicatorlights.
Spectrum analyzer
Indicates the input level and peak value of each sound
range.
Generalinputleveland peakvalueare indicatedon LEVEL

Ifthe operationofthe unitordisplayisnot normal,turnoff
the
POWER switch on the main unit and then turn it on
again.
Ifthe powerisnotturned offeven by pressingthe POWER
switch,disconnectthe mainsleadfromtheAC outlet.Then
connect the lead to the AC outlet and resumethe opera-
tion. Inthis case, resetthe clock and memorycontents.

The graphic equalizer
has been programmed with a flat

disconnected or a power faiiure continues for a iong

Use compact discs bearing the symbol shown below. In
additionto conventional 12 cm CDs, this system can be
usedto play 8 cm CDs without an adapter.

5. Pressthe STOP/CLEAR switchto end disc play.
The total number of tracks and total play time on the
disc are displayed.
When the lasttrack has been played, the player auto-
maticallystops.
When the OPEN/CLOSE switchispressed duringplay,
playwillstop and the disctray willslide out.
Notes on handlina compact discs
Do notexposetfie discto directsunlight,high humidity
or hightemperatures for extended periods oftime.
Discs should be returnedto their cases after use.
Do not apply paper or write anything on the disc sur-
face.
Handle the disc by its edge. Do not touch the playing
surface (glossy side).
Fingerprintsand dust should be carefullywiped offthe
playingsutface ofthe disc with a soft cloth.
Wipe ina straight motionfromthe centreto the outside
ofthe disc.
Never use chemicals such as record cleaning sprays,
antistaticsprays or fluids, benzine or thinner to clean
mmpact discs.
Temporarily stopping play
Pressthe PIAY/PAUSE switch. D” blinksonthe display,
To resume play, press the switch again.
Direct track selection
Byusingthe remote control,play can be started immedi-
atelyfromthe desired track.
Whilea discisplaying,itispossibleto switchimmediately
to a particulartrack.
Proceedwiththe operationafterthe CD 10KEYswitchhas
been pressed.
Examples
To startfrom track 3 on the disc, pressthe 3 switch.
To startfromtrack 10, press +1 O,then O.
To startfromtrack 25, press +10 twice, then 5.
Skip
play
To skip to track 6 while track 3 is playing, press the PM
StQP/SEAFiCHswitchrepeatedlyuntil“6’ appearsinTRACK
on the display.
To skip back to track 3 while track 6 is playing, pressthe

Search (forward/reverse)
If
the ~ or w SKIP/SEARCH switch is pressed during
play,the playerwillsearch at highspeed inthe forwardor
reversedirectionwhilethe switchisbeing pressed.When
the switchis released, normal play willcontinue.
Introscsn
Pressthe INTRO switchon the remote controlto playthe
first 10 seconds of each track. “INTRO” appears on the
display.
- Pressthe INTRO switchagain to returnto normalplay.
- If the INTRO switch is pressed during normal play,
introscanwillstartwiththe nexttrack on the disc.
Random play
Press
the RANDOM switchonthe remotecontrolto begin
randomplay.The playerwillautomaticallyselectand play
trackson the disc at random. “RANDOM” appears onthe -
display.
Ifthe RANDOM switchis pressed during random play,
the playerwillselect the next random track.
Random introscan play
Pressthe INTROswitch,then the RANDOM switch,to play
the first10 seconds of each track at random.
Repeat play
Before or during play, press the REPEAT switch on the
remote control.The player will play all the tracks, all the
programmedtracks, allthe introscanplay tracksorallthe
randomplaytracksrepeatedly.“REPEAT”appeam onthe
dsplay.
To cancel repeat play, press the REPEAT switch again.

Time display selection
Pressthe TIME switch on the remote control repeatedly
during play. The display changes in the following se-
quence:
Remainingtime forthe currenttrack
Remainingtimeforthe entiredisc(Duringprogrammed
play, remainingtimefor all programmed tracks)
Elapsed time forthe currenttrack
The display returnsto “elapsed time” after 10 seconds.
.
Ifthe track number exceeds 24, the remainingtime for
the currenttrack cannot be displayed.
In the stop mode, the total play time on the disc is
displayed.
PROGRAMMED PLAY (using the remote control)
Upto 24 selectionson a disc can be programmedforplay
inany order.
- To begin the programming procedure, select the CD
functionfirst.
_ The tracks are programmed in the stop mode.
- The same track can be programmed morethan once.

The tracks can also be selected usingthe w or w
switch.
When programmingusingthe controlsonthe mainunit,
use the SKIP/SEARCH switchesto assign the tracks.
Anyattemptto programmemorethan 24 selectionswill
resultin“FULL”being displayed and discontinuationof
the programming.
The programme iscleared inthe followingcases:
- Whe;the

- When the EDIT switch is pressed inthe stop mode
When the 4 switchispressed
- When the mains lead has been disconnected
Checking the programme
Each time the MEMORY
switch is pressed in the stop
mode,the programmeddetailssequentiallyappear onthe
display.
Changing
a programme
To add a new selectionto a programme:
1. Inthestop mode, pressthe MEMORYswitchrepeatedly
until”- - ----- is displayed.
2. Select a track number as explained above.
To change a selection:

2. Loadthe cassette(s).
To load, place the tape with its exposed end at the
bottom. After the tape has been loaded, push the
cassette holder back into position.
3. Set the DOLBY NR switchto ON or OFF according to
whetherthe tape has been recordedwiththe DolbyNR
systemor not.
4. Press the b or 4 switch on either deck to begin
playback.The

5. Pressthe
switchto stop playback at any time.
Whenthe end ofthe tape has been reached, automatic

of tape used is automatically identified by the
system since decks 1 and 2 both employ an auto tape

Automatic Music Select System (AMSS)

3. Select the desired preset number by pressing one of
the @ - @ switches on the remote control.The clock
isreplaced bythe preset numberonthe display.After5
seconds, the clock display returns.

3. Pressthe SCAN switchonthe remote control.Each of
the preset stationsisselected for approximately5 sec-
onds. When all of the preset stations in the selected
band have been tuned in,the originalreception mode
returns.
When the desired stationhas been tuned in,pressthe
SCAN switchagain to keepthe receptionlockedatthat
station.
- “STEREO” appears when an FM stereo broadcast is
received.
MODE

If the signals from an FM stereo station are weak and
reception is poor, press the MODE switch to change to
monauralreception. (“STEREO” is replaced by “MONO”
inthe display.)

Automatic record muting
Undesirable parts of a programme can be omitted while
recording.
Press the REC MUTE switch once while recording. A
4-second unrecorded blank space is created, then the
cassette deck enters the record pause mode.
To resume recording, press the REC PAUSEswitch.
Note:
The recordmutingfunctiondoes notoperateduringCD
computer recordingortape dubbing usingthe HIGH or
NORMAL DUBBINGswitch.
To create an unrecorded blank of any length, hold
down the REC MUTE switchforthe requiredtime.The
deck entersthe recordpause mode
when the switch is
released.
Accidental erasure prevention tabs
(forprotectingvalu-
able recordings)
Accidental erasurecan be prevented by breaking outthe
tabs onthe end ofthe cassettetape (wherethe tape isnot
exposed) usinga screwdriveror similarimplement.
Ifatab isbrokenout inerrorand you wishto re-recordth~
tape, simply block the tab hole using adhesive tape and
the tape can be used for recording again.

Recording startsautomaticallyafter8 seconds, so the
recordingwill not be interrupted by the leader tape at
the beginning of sides A and B.
A 5-second blank space is automatically recorded at
the end of each track.
The highest track number which can be ediied is 24.
Track numbers25 and above cannot be ediied (except
with backward skip edit).
To stop computer recording at any time, press the
STOP/CLEARswitchofthe CDplayerorthe
switchof
the deck2.The CD playerand deck 2willstop. (Theedit
mode isstilloperational.)
To refease the editing mode, press the STOP/CLEAR
switchof the CD player.
