Electric Starter

1, Determinethatyourhome'swiringisa three-wire

groundedsystem,Ask a licensedelectricianifyouare

Stopping The Engine

Runenginefora fewminutesbeforestoppingtohelpdry

off anymoistureon theengine,

on theengine,thento 120voltACoutlet,

2, Withtheenginerunning,pushthestarterbuttonand

allowthestarterforspinforseveralseconds,The

noisemadebythestarterisnormal Theengine's

starterisnotbeingharmed,

3, Whendisconnectingtheextensioncord,always

unplugtheend atthethree-prongwalloutletbefore

unpluggingtheoppositeendfromthesnowthrower,

4, MovethrottlecontroltoSTOPposition,

5, Removetheignitionkey,

6. Wipeall snowandmoisturefromtheareaaroundthe

engineaswellastheareainand aroundthedrive

controlandaugercontrol Also,engageand release

bothcontrolsseveraltimes.

NOTE:Keepthekeyin a safeplace.Theenginecannot

Recoil Starter

1. Withenginerunning,pullstarterropewitha rapid,

continuousfullarmstrokethreeor fourtimes.Pulling

thestarterropewillproducea loudclatteringsound,

whichisnotharmfultoengine.

2. MovethrottlecontroltoSTOPposition.

3. Removethe ignitionkey.

NOTE:Keepthekeyin a safeplace.Theenginecannot

startwithouttheignitionkey.

4. Wipeall snowandmoisturefromtheareaaroundthe

engineaswellastheareainand aroundthedrive

controlandaugercontrol Also,engageand release

bothcontrolsseveraltimes.

Chute Clean-Out TooJ

Thechutecleamouttoolisconvenientlyfastenedtothe

rearoftheaugerhousingwitha mountingclip.Should

snowand icebecomelodgedinthechuteassembly

duringoperation,proceedasfollowstosafelycleanthe

chuteassemblyandchuteopening:

1. ReleaseboththeAugerControlandtheDriveControl

2. Stoptheenginebyremovingtheignitionkey.

3. Removethecleamouttoolfromtheclipwhichsecures

ittothe rearoftheaugerhousing.

4. Usetheshovel=shapedendofthecleamouttoolto

dislodgeandscoopanysnowand icewhichhas

formedinand nearthechuteassembly.

5. Refastenthecleamouttooltothemountingclipon the

rearoftheaugerhousing,reinserttheignitionkeyand

startthesnowthrower'sengine.

6. Whilestandingintheoperator'sposition(behindthe

snowthrower),engagetheaugercontrolfora few

secondstoclearanyremainingsnowandicefromthe

chuteassembly.

To Engage Drive

1. WiththethrottlecontrolintheFast(rabbit)position,

moveshiftleverintooneofthesixforward(F)

positionsor tworeverse(R) positions.Selecta speed

appropriateforthesnowconditionsanda paceyou're

comfortablewith.

2. Squeezetheaugercontrolagainstthehandleandthe

augerswillturn.Releaseitandtheaugerswillstop.

3. Squeezethedrivecontrolagainstthehandlethesnow

throwerwillmove.Releaseitand drivemotionwill

stop.

To Engage Augers

1. Toengagetheaugersandstartthrowingsnow,

squeezetheaugercontrolagainsttheleft handle.

Releasetostoptheaugers.

Auger Control Test

Performthefollowingtestbeforeoperatingyoursnow

throwerforthefirsttimeandatthestartofeachwinter.

Checktheadiustmentoftheaugercontrolasfollows:

1. Whentheaugercontrolisreleasedandin the

disengaged"up"position,thecableshouldhavevery

littleslack.ItshouldNOTbetight.

2. Ina well=ventilatedarea,startthesnowthrowerengine

asinstructedonthe previouspage.Makesurethe

throttleissetin theFAST)osition.

3. Whilestandingintheoperator'sposition(behindthe

snowthrower),engagetheauger.

4. Allowtheaugertoremainengagedforapproximately

ten(10)secondsbeforereleasingtheaugercontrol.

Repeatthis severaltimes.

5. With thethrottlecontrolintheFAST(rabbit)position

andtheaugercontrolin thedisengaged"up"position,

walkto thefrontofthemachine.

6. Confirmthattheaugerhascompletelystopped

rotatingandshowsNOsignsof motion.If theauger

showsANYsignsofrotating,immediatelyreturnto the

operator'spositionandshutoff theengine.Waitfor

ALLmovingpartstostopbeforere=adiusfingtheauger

control.

7. Toreadiustthecontrolcable,loosenthe upperhex nut

ontheaugercablebracket.

8. Positionthebracketupwardtoprovidemoreslack(or

downwardto increasecabletension).SeeFigure2.

9. Retightentheupperhexnut.

10.RepeatAuger Control Testto verifyproperadiust=

menthasbeenachieved.

gascandamagethefuelsystemofanenginewhilein

storage.

Toavoidengineproblems,thefuelsystemshouldbe

emptiedbeforestoragefor30 daysor longer.Follow

theseinstructionsto prepareyoursnowthrowerfor

storage:

4. Removethesparkplugand pourone (1)ounceof

engineoilthroughthesparkplugholeintothecylinder.

Coversparkplugholewitha ragandcranktheengine

severaltimestodistributetheoil.Replacesparkplug.

NOTE:Refertothe Tecumsehenginemanualfor more

informationonpreparingthesnowthrowerenginefor

storage.

Preparing Snow Thrower

1. Whenstoringthesnowthrowerinan unventilatedor

metalstorageshed,careshouldbe takentorustproof

theequipment.Usinga lightoil orsilicone,coatthe

equipment,especiallyanychains,springs,bearings

andcables.
