About this Manual
This document covers the MIL-C1411 Converter. The
terms “MIL-C1411” and “converter” are used
throughout this document to describe this device.
Introduction
The MIL-C1411 converter is one of a series of modules
designed to be installed in MiLAN Technology's Media
Conversion System. This half-duplex device converts
(coax) 10BASE2 data to twisted pair (UTP) .
Features/Functions
Diagnostic LEDs.
Supports half-duplex mode.
MDI-X/MDI switch.
Coax termination switch.
Management-ready supplied by MiLAN
Technology’s optional SNMP modules.
Power to this module is provided by the rack mount
power supply.

RJ-45 Specifications Cabling Options: MDI-X/MDI Switch
The MDI-X/MDI switch enables a quick configuration
of the 10BASE-TX without changing the cabling.
Follow these guidelines when connecting the 10BASE-T
port:
For a hub or repeater, set the MDI-X/MDI switch to
the MDI position where the pins are connected 1 to
1, 2 to 2, 3 to 3, and 6 to 6.
For a workstation/PC port, set the MDI-X/MDI
switch to the MDI-X position where the pins are
connected 1 to 3, 2 to 6, 3 to 1, 6 to 2.
Installation
To install the MIL-C1411 into a rack mount chassis:
1. Make any necessary configuration changes to the
module (i.e., DIP switch settings).
2. Remove the screws securing the faceplate and
remove it from the chassis.
3. Slide the module into the slot through the guide
rails.
4. Insert the module into the card-edge connector (port
bay). Make sure it is seated firmly.
5. Secure the module with the two thumbscrews
located on the faceplate of the unit.

The unit is now ready for network connections.
Configuration- Termination Switch
Next to the coax cable connector, there are DIP switches
that control the 50 Ohm termination resistor. These
switches support a variety of configurations. Both
switches are shipped in the “up” position (default, no
termination).
Other configurations are given below.
Configuration Options
If the MIL-C1411 is connected to the end of a multi-node
segment without a T-connector and terminator, enable
the 50 Ohm resistor by:
Setting switch 1 “up”
Setting switch 2 “down”
If the MIL-C1411 is connected to a single-node without a
T-type connector and terminator on a coax cable of less
than one meter’s length:
Set both switches in the “down” position.
Note:
For this configuration, you do not need a 50 Ohm terminator on the coax
segment of the MIL-C1411’s BNC connector.
LEDs
There are four LEDs:
TP ACT: Yellow, there is packet activity on the
10BASE-T network.
COAX ACT: Yellow, there is packet activity on the
10BASE-2 network.
TP LINK: Green, there is an active connection to a
10BASE-T hub (or another node) when link is
enabled.
COAX ENAB: Green, coax connection is enabled.
