Introduction
Presentation
OkyFly2 is an innovative Digital TV Karaoke system that’s really user-friendly,
but full of high-tech features. With OkyFly2, you can enjoy yourself with your favourite
tunes, sing along with your friends, and “rehearse” with your group or “try out” new
pieces for your shows, organize real karaoke contests.
OkyFly2 is an enjoyable versatile tool, the result of years of experience by
entertainment pros: a real digital instrument for making music:
You can view songs’ lyrics directly on your television and follow the words that
change colour “in sync” with the melody.
You can match the songs’ keys to your vocal possibilities or those of whoever
is enjoying themselves with you without any problems.
You can speed up or slow down the songs, even while they’re playing, without
changing their key.
You can eliminate one or more instrument from the songs – for example, sax,
drums or guitar – and play over the backing track with your favourite instrument.
Using OkyFly’s electronic memories or your computer, you can have a large
song archive constantly at your disposal: what do think of 1,000 or 2,000 songs
– ready to use – contained in a memory you can keep in your pocket?
You can also play your MP3 files or the extraordinary backing tracks MP3 with
coloured syllable highlighting of the lyrics, made by M-Live.
If you’re musicians, OkyFly2 will become your “sparring partner”; if you like
singing, OkyFly2 will enable you to enjoy yourself with all the songs you want.
You can choose between all music genres, with thousands of titles always at your
disposal, 24 hours a day, which can also be downloaded from the Web, thanks to a
user-friendly auto-guided system.
OkyFly2 never finishes, but grows with you: small, but up to pro standards,
portable but reliable, powerful but easily used by anybody, OkyFly2 is a faithful friend
for singing, playing and enjoying yourself with the family, your friends or in public.
Just press a key and start singing...
Enjoy yourself!

Introduction

The Oky system’s three “hearts”
The Oky system is made up of three parts that are independent, but closely linked:
OkyFly2 musical file player / digital TV Karaoke
OkyFly2 is the core of the system, the device with which you play
the songs and sing with 1 or 2 microphones.
OkyFly2 can be connected to a TV screen for viewing song lyrics,
choosing backing tracks, programming an automatic playback list,
etc.; it can also be connected to a vast range of audio equipment:
TV sets, Hi-Fi systems, audio mixers, home theatre and Dolby
Surround systems, headphones, etc. The wide choice enables to
use OkyFly2 with great flexibility, both at home and before large
crowds.
OkyFly2 has a permanent on-board memory containing about a
hundred songs always ready for use.
Thanks to Compact Flash cards, i.e. rewritable electronic
memories that are very compact but have a large capacity, OkyFly2
can offer hundreds (or even thousands) more songs ready to be
used instantly.
OkyWin software for PC/Windows®
OkyWin is a truly intuitive, highly automated program which enables
to download songs from the Web directly to OkyFly2 and keep a
copy in your computer.
OkyWin also enables to keep OkyFly2 constantly updated with the
latest version of the operating system.

Warnings
Connecting to the mains power supply
OkyFly2 is supplied with an external power supply adaptor. Before connecting it to the
mains supply, make certain that the voltage is the same as shown (max. tolerance ±10%).
Switching on and off
As a precaution, when switching on and off, make certain that the sound system to
which OkyFly2 is connected is switched off: you’ll thus avoid signal peaks, which are
harmful for loudspeaker enclosure components and hearing.
Compact Flash cards
Compact Flash cards must be formatted in “Oky standard”,
i.e. prepared to handle data appropriately with OkyFly2.
N.B.: other standards (e.g. for digital cameras or other units) are not suitable.
To carry out formatting procedure, connect OkyFly2 (with the Compact Flash Card
inserted) to the computer and use the appropriate function of the OkyWin software.
Alternatively, use OkyFlash pre-formatted Compact Flash cards, tested and
guaranteed by M-Live.
N.B.: OkyFly2 is compatible with <CF> CompactFlashTM specifications and has been successfully
tested with a vast number of Compact Flash cards manufactured by various companies.
Nevertheless: - M-Live declines all responsibility for any data loss.
- M-Live declines all responsibility for any faulty operation with Compact Flash
cards other than those sold with the M-Live brand.
Insert the Compact Flash only with OkyFly2 switched off, making certain to insert
it the correct way.
N.B.: incorrect insertion or insertion with the unit switched on can cause faulty operation or data loss.
Connection to a computer via USB
Only connect OkyFly2 to a PC after having installed OkyWin Gold software (or later
versions), always powering OkyFly2 with the power supply/adaptor supplied.
N.B.: connect OkyFly2 to a PC directly using the computers USB sockets or by means of powered USB
hubs (devices able to control and power several USB peripherals).
Protection & maintenance
Avoid exposing the unit to direct sunlight for lengthy periods, sources of strong heat,
strong vibrations, particularly damp or dusty environments or rain, as these can cause
faulty operation, deterioration or even electric shocks.
Remove the dust just using a dry soft cloth or brush: never use alcohol, acetone or any
kind of solvents. No other maintenance is required.
In the event of breakdown
All the unit’s controls are external and easily accessible. In the event of breakdown, contact
the M-LIVE Assistance Centre - fax: +39-0541-827067 - e-mail: [email protected]

Installation

1 - Installation
Power supply
Connect the power supply/adaptor
to the DC connector and then to a
mains power socket.
N.B.: as soon as it’s connected to a power
supply, OkyFly2 automatically switches on.
Switching on and off
Switching on: If connected to a power supply, but off, OkyFly2 can be
switched on by just pressing any key.
Switching off: To switch OkyFly2 off, just keep the STOP key pressed for a
few seconds.
N.B.: OkyFly2 must be in standby mode, i.e. there must be no backing tracks
being played or any editing menus being accessed.
To stop any backing tracks that are playing, press STOP twice, and press
ESC to exit the editing menu.
OkyFly2 also has an automatic shutdown system (which
can be enabled and disabled from the General Settings Menu),
which automatically runs after a short period of inactivity.
Installation
10
First Audio/Video connections
To start using your OkyFly2, just connect the microphone and the TV
(and the amplification system, if used).
Connecting 1 or 2 Microphones
Connect the OkyMic microphone
supplied to one of the inputs on the
front part of OkyFly2, using the cable
supplied.
The two microphone inputs are identical and
can be used to connect 1 or 2 microphones.
It’s therefore possible to amplify for example
one or two voices, a voice and chorus, a voice
and an acoustic instrument, etc.
You can use any dynamic microphone.
Obviously, the better the microphone, the
better the results...
Connecting to a TV set
Use the AV (Audio Video) cable supplied to connect OkyFly2 to the SCART (or AV)
connector of your television set.
You can use numerous connection
options, according to the type of
equipment available and the sound
quality and power required.
In the “Connection Examples” chapter, you
can find various solutions, from which you
can choose whichever is most suited to your
needs.
N.B.: the example illustrated alongside only shows the easiest
connection, not necessarily the best: In fact, in the majority of
cases, the power and quality of a television set’s amplification is
rather poor, or at least not particularly suited to this use.
Switch on the TV and set it at AV.
Set the volume of your sound system, whatever type it is (TV, Hi-Fi, audio
mixer, etc.), at a moderate level, at least initially: this will avoid sudden signal
peaks, and you can always adjust the volume later.

3 - QUICK GUIDE
Ready, Steady… Go!
Start
Immediately after switching on, the OkyFly2
start page appears on the TV screen.
Simultaneously, the system uploads the
songs contained in the on-board memory
or on the Compact Flash card (if it’s in the
appropriate slot on the front panel).
Some information appears for a short time on the start page:
Operating System
The screen will also show the version of the Operating System currently
loaded in OkyFly2 (in the example, vers. X.XX).
N.B.: the Operating System, i.e. the unit’s brain, contains all the OkyFly2 functions and can be
updated via OkyWin Gold. Updates can be downloaded from the Web site and transferred to
OkyFly2 using a guided procedure.
The version of the Operating System can also be viewed in the system information, accessible via
the Menu key.
OkyCode
OkyCode is the individual code of your OkyFly2.
The OkyCode can also be viewed in the system information, accessible via the Menu key.
Mode
Shows the type of OkyFly2 operation currently set.
The preset mode is “Karaoke”, which allows all the normal work of playing
and managing songs described in the following pages.
“Sing&Vote” on the other hand is the mode that allows to organize real contests
between several participants (see chapter Sing&Vote).
After starting the unit, the required mode can be chosen in the Player Settings, accessible via
the Menu key.

QUICK GUIDE
Starting point with KARAOKE mode
After starting up, the basic environment then appears, in which it’s possible to
start all OkyFly2 control operations and all song search, selection and playback
procedure.
The top area of the screen contains the letters of the alphabet plus an asterisk
(which indicates numbers and symbols). These characters allow to pick out
with greater ease the position of the cursor (small arrow) in the list of available
songs. In fact, the letter corresponding to the position of the cursor, changes
colour and becomes lower case.
The centre part contains the first 8
songs available.
When the program is started, the songs
are listed in alphabetical order by Title
(TITLE mode).
N.B.: in this order, numbers and symbols are listed
before the letters.
The lower part contains
system or performing indications
(e.g. “Pause...”) and suggestions
on what to do
(e.g.: “Choose a Title”, “Choose an Artist”, etc.).

The cursor
The cursor, i.e. the small arrow that
moves on the left-hand side of the screen,
allows to select an item from the list.
According to the
circumstances, it could be a
song, an artist, a function, a
parameter and so on.
Moving the cursor in the lists of songs
Using the Up and Down arrows, the cursor moves vertically,
scrolling through the songs one by one.
Moving the cursor beyond the first or last of the 8 songs
contained in this area, the previous or next 8 songs appear on
the screen.
This movement can be repeated until the beginning or the
end of the list of available songs is reached.
Using the Left and Right arrows, the cursor moves to
the first of the songs whose title begins with a given
letter of the alphabet.
This method is particularly useful for moving the cursor very rapidly, especially
when there’s a large number of songs (e.g. 500).
To further streamline movement, the cursor jumps the letters that have no songs.
For example, of there are no song titles beginning with D, E, F or G, the cursor
will pass directly from C to H.

QUICK GUIDE
Playing songs
You can now start performing the songs.
Playing controls
(in Play and in Stop)
Play immediately plays the song selected with the cursor,
interrupting any song being played and passing ahead of all the
songs in the Playlist. At the end, the Playlist will resume normally,
starting with the next track programmed.
(in Pause...)
PLAY resumes playback of the “PAUSED” song from the same
point.
STOP once = PAUSE...
Playback is temporarily stopped, ready to be resumed from the
same point (PLAY) or stopped definitively (by pressing STOP
again).
STOP twice = STOP
VOL adjusts OkyFly’s output volume.
BAL adjusts the balance of the music and microphone volumes.
TEMPO adjusts playback speed.
KEY changes the key of the songs.
MUTE enables/disables the playback of the melody.
If necessary, adjust the volume of your sound system (TV, Hi-Fi, audio mixer, etc.).
