7. Battery safety information
Batteries present numerous safety hazards. Compared with conventional NiMH rechargeable bat-
teries, LiPo rechargeable batteries have a high energy content. For this reason, it is essential to
complywithsafetyregulationstopreventtheriskofareorexplosion.
Always observe the following safety information when handling batteries.
• Keepbatteriesoutofthereachofchildren.
• Donotleavebatterieslyingaround,astheypresentachokinghazardforchildrenandpets.Seekim-
mediate medical advice if a battery is swallowed.
• Batteries/rechargeablebatteriesmustneverbeshort-circuited,takenapartorthrownintore,asthis
maycauseanexplosion!
• Ifyoudonotplantousethemodelforanextendedperiod(e.g.duringstorage),removethebatteries
fromtheremotecontroltopreventthemfromleakingandcausingdamage.Disconnectthevehiclebat-
tery and remove it from the vehicle.
• Whenhandlingleakingordamagedbatteries,alwaysusesuitableprotectiveglovestoavoidburning
your skin.
• Liquids leaking from batteries are very chemically aggressive. Objects or surfaces coming into contact
with these liquids could be severely damaged. Always store batteries in a suitable location that is not
pronetodamage.
• Donotattempttorechargedisposable,non-rechargeablebatteries.Thismaycauseareorexplosion!
Onlyrechargecompatiblerechargeablebatteriesandensurethatyouuseasuitablebatterycharger.
• Alwaysensurethatthebatteries/vehiclebatteryareinsertedinthecorrectpolarity(observetheplus/+
and minus/- symbols).
• Nevermixdisposablebatterieswithrechargeablebatteries.Theremotecontrolcanbepoweredwith
disposableorrechargeablebatteries.
• Alwaysexchangetheentiresetofbatteriesintheremotecontrol.Donotmixfullbatterieswithhalf-full
ones.Alwaysusebatteriesofthesametypeandfromthesamemanufacturer.
• Thetypeofchargeryourequiremayvarydependingonthetypeofrechargeablebattery(NiMH,LiPo....).
Forexample,youshouldneverchargeLiPobatterieswithaNiMHbatterycharger.Thismaycausea
reorexplosion!
• A balancer is required to charge multi-cell LiPo batteries (most LiPo chargers features a built-in bal-
ancer).AbalancermonitorsthevoltageofeachLiPocelltopreventindividualcellsfromovercharging.
OverchargingaLiPobatterycell(max.cellvoltage4.24V)cancausethebatterytoexpandoreven
resultinareorexplosion.
• Onlychargeintactandundamagedbatteries.Donotchargebatteriesiftheexternalinsulationorbattery
housingisdamaged,orifthebatteryisdeformedorswollen.Thismaycauseareorexplosion!
• Neverchargebatteriesimmediatelyafteruse.Alwaysallowthemtocooldownforatleast5–10minutes.
• Always remove the battery from the vehicle before charging it.
• Place the charger and battery on a heat-resistant, non-combustible surface.
33
• Thechargerandbatterywillheatupduringthechargingprocess.Ensurethatthereisasufcientdis-
tancebetweenthechargerandbattery.Neverplacethebatterydirectlyontothecharger.Nevercover
thechargerandthebattery.Donotexposethechargerorbatterytoextremelyhigh/lowtemperatures
or direct sunlight.
• Never leave batteries unattended when they are charging.
• Rechargeablebatteriesshouldbechargedregularly(approx.onceevery2-3months)topreventthem
fromoverdischarging.Thismayresultinpermanentdamageandrenderthebatteriesuseless.
NiMHrechargeablebatteries(exceptspecialbatterieswithalowself-discharge)losetheirchargewithin
a few weeks.
LiPo batteries usually retain their charge for several months. However, if the batteries overdischarge, this
willresultinpermanentdamageandrenderthemuseless.
• Neveruseanexcessivechargingcurrent.Observethemanufacturer'sspecicationsfortheideal/maxi-
mum charging current.
• Disconnect the battery from the charger when the battery is fully charged.
• Thechargerandtherechargeablebatterymustnotgetdamporwet.Thismayresultinafatalelectric
shockorcauseareorexplosion!
Lithium rechargeable batteries (e.g. LiPo batteries) contain chemicals that are very sensitive to moisture.

Makesurethatthecablecannotgetintothevehicle'sdrivecomponentsorthesteeringmechanism.Ifnecessary,use
cabletiestoxthecablesinplace.
g) Switching on the speed controller

The acoustic signals are generated by the motor.
Check that the throttle and steering functions are working correctly.
h) Attaching and securing the chassis
Placethechassisontothexturesandxitinplaceitwiththeclips.
38
i) Attaching the decorative accessories to the chassis
Theaccessoriescanbeattachedtothechassisfordecorativepurposes.Youcanusehotglueorplasticadhesives
tosecuretheaccessoriesinplace.
j) Controlling the vehicle
Place the vehicle on the ground. Do not reach into the engine or hold the wheels.
Move the throttle/brake lever on the remote control very carefully and drive slowly until you are familiar with
howthevehiclerespondstotheremotecontrol.Donotmakesuddenadjustmentstotheremotecontrol
levers.
If the vehicle shows a tendency to move to one side, adjust the steering trim on the remote control accordingly.
Thefollowingimagesareforreferencepurposesonlyanddonotnecessarilycorrespondtothedesignof
theremotecontrolincludedwiththeproduct!
1. Releasethethrottle/brakelever(moveittotheneutralposition).Thevehicleshouldrolltoahaltorstaystationary
(if necessary, adjust the throttle trim on the remote control).
2. Slowlypullthethrottle/brakelevertowardsthehandletomakethevehiclemoveforwards.
3. Slowlypushthethrottle/brakeleverawayfromthehandletomakethevehiclemovebackwards.
Donotswitchimmediatelybetweenforwards/reverse.Bringthevehicletoastandstillrstbeforemovingit
intheotherdirection.Directlyswitchingtoanotherdirectionmayoverloadthedrivecomponents.
39
Stopdrivingimmediatelyifthevehicledoesnotrespondcorrectlytoremotecontrolcommands.Ifthis
occurs,thevehicle/remotecontrolbatteriesmaybenearlyempty,orthevehiclemaybetoofarfromthe
remote control.
A damaged receiver antenna, interference on the wireless channel (e.g. from other devices, Bluetooth
®
or
Wi-Fi)orpoorreception/transmissionconditionsmaycausethevehicletorespondincorrectly.
Thereceiverispoweredbythespeedcontroller/vehiclebattery,thereforethevehiclemaynotmovecor-
rectlywhenthevehiclebatteryisnearlyempty(e.g.thesteeringservomaynotworkproperly).
Forexample,thevehiclebatteryvoltagemaydropmomentarilyatfullthrottle,andthereceivermaynot
receive the required voltage as a result. If this occurs, the vehicle will accelerate, but the steering servo will
notrespondcorrectly.Discontinueuseimmediatelyanduseanew,fullychargedvehiclebattery.
Ifthevehiclebatteryisempty,waitforatleast5-10minutesuntiltheengineandspeedcontrollerhave
cooled down. You can then use the vehicle again with a fully charged battery.
k) Turning the LEDs on/off
The front and rear bumpers are equipped with LEDs.
These can be switched on and off using a small sliding
switch (see arrow in right-hand image).
l) Stopping the vehicle
Tostopthevehicle,proceedasfollows:
• Releasethethrottle/brakeleverontheremotecontrolsothatitisintheneutralposition,andthenletthevehicle
coast to a standstill.
• Waituntilthevehiclehasstopped,andthenswitchoffthespeedcontroller(movetheswitchtothe"OFF"position).
Donotreachintothewheelsordrivecomponentsormovethethrottle/brakeleverontheremotecontrol.
Do not hold the vehicle by the wheels!
Warning!
Themotor,speedcontrolleranddrivebatterybecomeveryhotduringuse!Donottouchthesepartsim-
mediatelyafteruse–burnhazard!
• Disconnectthevehiclebatteryfromthespeedcontroller.Unscrewtheplug-inconnectioncompletely.
• You can now switch off the remote control.

10. Cleaning and maintenance
a) General
Beforecleaningormaintenance,thespeedcontrollermustbeturnedoffandthevehiclebatterymustbecompletely
disconnectedfromthespeedcontroller.Allowallpartstocooldowncompletely(e.g.engineandspeedcontroller).
Afteryouhavenishedusingthevehicle,removealldustanddirt(e.g.usingacleanlong-hairedbrushandavacuum
cleaner).Compressedairaerosolscanalsohelptoremovedirt.
Donotusecleaningspraysorconventionalhouseholdcleaningchemicals.Thesemaydamagetheelectroniccompo-
nentsanddiscolourtheplasticpartsorchassis.
Neverwashthevehiclewithwater(e.g.withahigh-pressurecleaner),asthismaydestroytheengine,speedcontroller
or receiver.
Useasoft,slightlydampclothtowipethechassis.Donotrubtoormly,asthismayresultinscratchmarks.
b) Before and after each use
Enginevibrationsandimpactsduringdrivingmaycausecertainpartsandscrewttingstobecomeloose.
Check the following before and after each use:
• Allwheelnutsandscrewttingsmustbesecure
• Checkthatthespeedcontroller,on/offswitchandreceiveraresecure
• Check the condition of the tyres and ensure that they adhere to the wheel rims
• Checkthatallcablesareattached(theymustnottouchthemovingpartsofthevehicle)
Check the vehicle for any signs of damage before and after each use. If there are any signs of damage,
discontinue use immediately.
Onlyusegenuinesparepartswhenreplacingwornvehicleparts(e.g.tyres)ordefectivevehicleparts(e.g.
abrokensuspensionarm).
41
c) Changing a tyre
Thetyresarexedonthewheelrimandcannotbere-
moved.Ifatyreisworn,theentirewheelmustbereplaced.
After removing the nut cover (A), loosen the wheel nut (B)
withasuitablespanner,and thenpull thewheel offthe
wheelaxle(D).
Attachthenewwheelsothatthehexsocketontheinside
ofthewheelrimtsexactlyoverthewheelhubnut(C).
Screwthewheelontotheaxisusingthewheelnut(B)that
youpreviouslyremoved.Donotuseanyforce,otherwise
thewheel willnot spinfreelyandthedrivecomponents
may be damaged. Insert the nut cover (A) onto the wheel
nut (B).
When you remove the rear wheel, the wheel hub nut (C) may get stuck in the wheel rim or become de-
tachedfromthewheelaxis(D).Ensurethatthedrivepin(E)doesnotfalloff.
Ifthewheelissubsequentlyre-tted,itisimportanttocheckthatthedrivepin(E)isinsertedexactlyintothe
centreofthewheelaxle(D)andthatitispositionedinthecorrespondingnotchonthewheelhubnut(C).
Ifthedrivepin(E)ismissing,notorquecanbetransferredfromthemotortothewheelandthewheelwill
spinfreely.
d) Adjusting the backlash
Thebacklashispresettoanoptimalsettinganddoesnot
normally need to be corrected.
However, vibrations may cause the screws in the motor
tobecomelooseafterprolongeduse.Ifthisoccurs,the
screws must be tightened and you must check that the
backlash is correct.
Remove the dust cover (A) by unscrewing the 3 screws.
42
The distance between the main gear (B) and the engine
pinion(C)shouldbeassmallaspossiblewhilstensuring
that the gears are not too tight.
Loosen the screws (D) on the motor slightly, and then gen-
tlyslidetheenginewiththeenginepinion(B)towardsthe
main gear (C).
The engine must not shake; the screws should
only be loosened enough to allow the engine to
move.
Theenginepinionandthemaingearshouldnowgripeach
other with no backlash. However, this is detrimental to the
lifespanofthegears.
Placeastripofthinpaper(E)betweenthemaingear(C)
andtheenginepinion(B).Turnthemaingearsothatthe
paperstrip(max.80g!)ispulledbetweenthetwogears.
Thepressureofthepaperpushestheelectricmotorbythe
required amount.
Tighten the screws (D) on the motor.
When you turn the main gear in the other direction to re-
movethestripofpaper(G),bothgearsshouldbeatthe
correct distance to one another.
Replacethedustcoverandscrewitinplace.
Ideally,theenginepinionshouldbeascloseaspossibletothemaingearwhilstensuringthatthecogsdo
not touch, as this makes the gears too tight.
Ifthegears(enginepinionandmaingear)aretoofarapart,thecogsonthemaingearwillbedamagedby
theenginepinionafterjustafewseconds,whichwillvoidthewarranty/guarantee!
However,iftheenginepinionpressesagainstthemaingear(i.e.thereisnoclearancebetweenthecogs),
thiswilldecreaseperformance,increasepowerconsumption(themotorrequireslotsofpowertoturnthe
maingear)andleadtoprematurewear.
43
e) Adjusting the friction clutch
Thefrictionclutchprotectsthegearsagainstoverload(e.g.onnon-slipsurfaces).
Inaddition,adjustingthefrictionclutchcorrectlypreventsthevehiclefromoverturningduetothemotor'shightorque.
Themanufacturerhasconguredtheoptimalsetting,thereforeyoudonotnormallyneedtomakeany
changes.
Drivingfrequentlyatfullspeedonanon-slipsurfacesmayweardownthesurfaceofthefrictionclutch.Ifthisoccurs,
youmayneedtorecalibratetheclutch.Professionaldriverscanadjustthefrictionclutchtomakethevehiclerespond
differentlyonaparticularsurface.
To adjust the clutch, proceed as follows:
Remove the dust cover (A) by unscrewing the 3 screws.
Thefrictionclutchcanbeadjustedbyturningthehexnut
(B).
Turnthe hexnutclockwise toincreasethe drivepower
tothegearbox,or anticlockwise todecreasethepower
transmission.
Ifthefrictionclutchistootight,themaximum
drivepowerwillbetransmittedandtheclutch
will not function. This may damage the differ-
entialandthevehiclemayoverturnonnon-slip
surfaces due to the high torque from the motor.
If the friction clutch is too "soft", this places
signicant wear on the friction clutch. It also
affectsaccelerationandmaypreventthevehi-
clefrommoving(duetospinningofthefriction
clutch).
Adjusttheclutchinsmallsteps(max.1/4turn)
andcheckhowthevehicleresponds.Makea
note of each change so that you can revert to
theprevioussettingifnecessary.
