Howtosettherootpassword

ToaccesstheAxisproduct,youmustsetthepasswordforthedefaultadministratoruserroot.ThisisdoneintheCongureRoot

Passworddialog,whichopenswhentheproductisaccessedforthersttime.

Topreventnetworkeavesdropping,therootpasswordcanbesetviaanencryptedHTTPSconnection,whichrequiresanHTTPS

certicate.HTTPS(HypertextTransferProtocoloverSSL)isaprotocolusedtoencrypttrafcbetweenwebbrowsersandservers.The

HTTPScerticateensuresencryptedexchangeofinformation.SeeHTTPSonpage45.

Thedefaultadministratorusernamerootispermanentandcannotbedeleted.Ifthepasswordforrootislost,theproductmustbe

resettothefactorydefaultsettings.SeeHowtoresettofactorydefaultsettingsonpage56.

TosetthepasswordviaastandardHTTPconnection,enteritdirectlyinthedialog.

TosetthepasswordviaanencryptedHTTPSconnection,followthesesteps:

1.ClickUseHTTPS.

Atemporarycerticate(validforoneyear)iscreated,enablingencryptionofalltrafctoandfromtheproduct,andthe

passwordcannowbesetsecurely.

2.Enterapasswordandthenre-enterittoconrmthespelling.

3.ClickOK.Thepasswordhasnowbeencongured.

SetPowerLineFrequency

PowerlinefrequencyissetthersttimetheAxisproductisaccessedandcanonlybechangedfromPlainCong(seepage56)

orbyresettingtheproducttofactorydefault.

Selectthepowerlinefrequency(50Hzor60Hz)usedatthelocationoftheAxisproduct.Selectingthewrongfrequencymaycause

imageickeriftheproductisusedinuorescentlightenvironments.

Whenusing50Hz,themaximumframerateislimitedto25fps.

Note

Powerlinefrequencyvariesdependingongeographicregion.TheAmericasusuallyuse60Hz,whereasmostotherpartsof

theworlduse50Hz.Localvariationscouldapply.Alwayscheckwiththelocalauthorities.

typeyouuse.

TheliveviewwindowintheproductprovidesaccesstoH.264andMotionJPEGvideostreams,andtothelistofavailablestream

proles.Otherapplicationsandclientscanaccessvideostreamsdirectly,withoutgoingviatheliveviewwindow.

AboutH.264format

H.264can,withoutcompromisingimagequality,reducethesizeofadigitalvideolebymorethan80%comparedwiththeMotion

JPEGformatandasmuchas50%morethantheMPEG-4standard.Thismeansthatmuchlessnetworkbandwidthandstoragespace

arerequiredforavideole.Orseenanotherway,muchhighervideoqualitycanbeachievedforagivenbitrate.

Decidingwhichcombinationofprotocolsandmethodstousedependsonyourviewingrequirements,andonthepropertiesof

yournetwork.TheavailableoptionsinAXISMediaControlare:

UnicastRTP

Thisunicastmethod(RTPoverUDP)isused

forliveunicastvideo,especiallywhenitis

importanttohaveanup-to-datevideostream,

evenifsomeframesaredropped.

RTPoverRTSP

Thisunicastmethod(RTPtunneledoverRTSP)

isusefulasitisrelativelysimpletocongure

rewallstoallowRTSPtrafc.

RTPoverRTSPoverHTTP

Thisunicastmethodcanbeusedtotraverse

rewalls.Firewallsarecommonlyconguredto

Unicastingisusedforvideo-on-demand

transmissionsothatthereisnovideotrafc

onthenetworkuntilaclientconnectsand

MulticastRTP

Thismethod(RTPoverUDP)shouldbeusedforlivemulticastvideo.Thevideostreamisalways

up-to-date,evenifsomeframesaredropped.

Multicastingprovidesthemostefcientusageofbandwidthwhentherearelargenumbersof

clientsviewingsimultaneously.Amulticastcannothowever,passanetworkrouterunlessthe

routerisconguredtoallowthis.ItisnotpossibletomulticastovertheInternet,forexample.

Notealsothatallmulticastviewerscountasoneunicastviewerinthemaximumtotalof20

simultaneousconnections.

AXISMediaControlnegotiateswiththeAxisproducttodeterminethetransportprotocoltouse.Theorderofpriority,listedinthe

AMCControlPanel,canbechangedandtheoptionsdisabled,tosuitspecicrequirements.

TheMotionJPEGstreamusesconsiderableamountsofbandwidth,butprovidesexcellentimagequalityandaccesstoeveryimage

containedinthestream.TherecommendedmethodofaccessingMotionJPEGlivevideofromtheAxisproductistousetheAXIS

MediaControlinInternetExplorerinWindows.

Axis’ZipstreamTechnologyisabitratereductiontechnologyoptimizedforvideosurveillance.Zipstreamreducestheaveragebitrate

intheH.264streambyremovingunnecessarydata,whichmakesitpossibletostreamhigherresolutions,reducestoragecost

orkeeprecordingsforalongertime.

Toreducetheaveragebitrate,Zipstreamreducesthebitrateinareasoftheimagethatarelessinterestingfromavideosurveillance

Whensettingupaviewarea,itisrecommendedthatthevideostreamresolutionisthesamesizeasorsmallerthantheviewarea

size.Settingthevideostreamresolutionlargerthantheviewareasizeimpliesdigitallyscaledupvideoaftersensorcapture,

requiringmorebandwidthwithoutaddingimageinformation.
