1 About this document
These instructions contain important information on the safe and
appropriate assembly, transport, commissioning, operation,
maintenance, and disassembly of the gripper and how to remedy
simple malfunctions yourself.
O Read this documentation completely, especially chapter “Basic
Safety Instructions”, before working with the gripper.
2 Basic Safety Instructions
The gripper has been manufactured according to the accepted
rules of technology. Even so, there is a risk of injury or damage if
the following general safety instructions and the specific warnings
given in this instruction manual are not observed.
O Read all these instructions completely before working with the
gripper.
O
Keep these instructions in a location where they are accessible
to all users at all times.
O Always include the assembly instructions when you pass the
gripper on to third parties.
Intended use
The gripper is exclusively intended for installation in a machine or
system or for combination with other components to form a
machine or system. The product may only be commissioned after
it has been installed in the machine/system for which it is
intended. The gripper and system may only be used under the
operating conditions and within the performance limits listed in
the technical data.
O Only use the gripper to grip loads within the scope of its
technical data.
Intended use includes having fully read and understood these
instructions, especially chapter “Basic Safety Instructions”.
Improper use
Do not use the gripper to crush connections or objects (e.g. pipe or
tubing fittings, sheet metal parts).
Personnel qualifications
Assembly, commissioning and operation, disassembly, service
(incl. maintenance and care) require basic mechanical, electrical,
and pneumatic knowledge, as well as knowledge of the applicable
technical terms. In order to ensure operational safety, these tasks
may only be carried out by qualified personnel or an instructed
person under the direction of qualified personnel.
Qualified personnel are those who can recognize possible hazards
and institute the appropriate safety measures, due to their
professional training, knowledge, and experience, as well as their
understanding of the relevant regulations pertaining to the work to
be done. Qualified personnel must observe the rules relevant to the
subject area.
Safety instructions in this document
In this document, there are safety instructions before the steps
whenever there is a danger of personal injury or damage to the
equipment. The measures described to avoid these hazards must
be followed.
Safety instructions are set out as follows:
W Safety sign (warning triangle): draws attention to the risk
W Signal word: identifies the degree of hazard
W Hazard type and source: identifies the hazard type or source
W Consequences: describes what occurs when the safety
instructions are not complied with
W Precautions: states how the hazard can be avoided
Meaning of the signal words
The following must be observed:
General information
W Observe the valid local regulations in the country of use to
protect the environment and avoid workplace accidents.
W Only use AVENTICS grippers that are in perfect working order.
W Examine the product for obvious defects, such as cracks in the
housing or missing screws, caps, or seals.
W Do not modify or convert the grippers.
W Only use the device within the performance range provided in
the technical data.
W Do not place any improper mechanical loads on the product
under any circumstances. Never use the product as a handle or
step. Do not place loose objects on it.
On installation
W Make sure the relevant system component is not under
pressure or voltage before assembling the product or when
connecting and disconnecting plugs. Protect the system
against being restarted.
W Lay cables and lines so that they cannot be damaged and no
one can trip over them.
W Before commissioning, make sure that all the seals and plugs
for the compressed air connections have been installed
correctly and without any damage to prevent fluids and foreign
bodies from penetrating the product.
SIGNAL WORD
Hazard type and source
Consequences of non-observance
O Measures to avoid these hazards
WARNING
Indicates a hazardous situation which, if not avoided, could
result in death or serious injury.
CAUTION
Indicates a hazardous situation which, if not avoided, could
result in minor or moderate injuries.
NOTICE
Indicates that damage may be inflicted on the product or the
environment.

During operation
W Only authorized personnel are allowed to operate the setting
mechanisms of the components or parts, under the proviso
that the pneumatic system is used as intended.
W Only allow persons who are authorized by the system owner to
access the system's direct operating area. This is also valid
when the system is standing still.
During service and repairs
Make sure that no line connections, ports, and components are
disconnected as long as pressure and voltage are applied in the
system. Protect the system against being restarted.

5Assembly
Assembling the gripper
There are various options for gripper assembly:
There are mounting threads with a center hole on the mounting
surface that can be used for assembly.
1. Tighten the gripper as shown in Fig. or Fig. .
Use the provided centering rings E (2 pieces) for this.
2. Tighten the screws. See Fig. or Fig. for the tightening
torque.
Gripper fingers are assembled on the clamping jaws:
Notice: The gripper fingers are not supplied.
Connecting the gripper pneumatics
CAUTION
Risk of injury or damage due to improper assembly!
An incorrectly mounted gripper may result in uncontrolled
movements that could injure personnel or damage other
system parts. Gripper assembly requires basic mechanical,
pneumatic, and electrical knowledge.
O The gripper may only be assembled by qualified personnel
(see “Personnel qualifications”).
O Make sure that the gripper is securely fastened.
