RUST-OLEUM® 790
SYNTHETIC ROOF COATING
Form: ARJ-2370
Rev.: 033022
Rust-Oleum® 790 Synthetic Silicone Roof Coating is a non-
fibered, semi-gloss, water-based acrylic roof coating which is
specially formulated with a flouro-polymer resin. The 790
coating is VOC compliant as a roof coating and is asbestos
free. 790 Coating is used as a semi-gloss finish coat over
water-based acrylic roof and wall coatings and other
approved coatings and substrates as recommended by
Rust-Oleum, such as granule surfaced modified bitumen
membranes. 790 coating provides long term color-fast
performance under constant solar exposure, such as those
conditions found on roofs and exterior building walls. 790
coating also offers superior resistance to dirt pickup.
790 coating has been tested for reflective properties
according to the standards of the Cool Roof Rating Council
(CRRC) and is listed in the CRRC Rated Products Directory.
For use on metal roofs, concrete, modified bitumen, bulit-up,
and weathered single-ply roofing.
Stays white 3X longer than silicone
88% reflectivity
Resists rain & ponding water in 1 hour
Cool Roof technology
700% elasticity, resists cracking
DESCRIPTION (Bright White)
SURFACE PREPARATION
All surfaces must be clean and free from dirt, grease, oil,
loose granule, loose paint, rust, excess chalk, and other
foreign matter, which could prevent proper adhesion. This is
best accomplished using a high pressure wash of at least
2,000 psi. A surface cleaner shall be used to remove all
grease or oily deposits. Remove all dirt, dust, and other loose
debris from the roof. Area to be coated must be a clean,
sound and dry surface.
WARNING! If you scrape, sand or remove old paint from any
surface, you may release lead paint dust. LEAD IS TOXIC.
EXPOSURE TO LEAD DUST CAN CAUSE SERIOUS
ILLNESS, SUCH AS BRAIN DAMAGE; ESPECIALLY IN
CHILDREN. PREGNANT WOMEN SHOULD ALSO AVOID
EXPOSURE. Wear a NIOSH approved respirator to control
lead exposure. Clean up carefully with a HEPA vacuum and
a wet mop. Before you start, find out how to protect yourself
and your family by contacting the National Lead Information
Hotline at 1-800-424-LEAD or log on to www.epa.gov/lead.
PRODUCT APPLICATION (cont.)
APPLICATION
Adhesion test may be required. Consult with your
Rust-Oleum representative.
Mechanical mixing is recommended. Ensure product is
consistent in appearance and viscosity. Avoid entraining air
when mixing. Install product using one of the approved
application methods evenly at the recommended coverage
rate. Use wet mil gauges to monitor coverage rates
throughout application.
Two coats are recommended. Applying the second coat after
the first coat will support foot traffic without tracking. Avoid
foot traffic on final coat for 24 hours. For best results, apply
the second coat in a direction which is perpendicular to the
first coat. For spray application, take necessary precautions
to avoid overspray. 790 can be spray, roll or brush applied. If
rolling, use medium nap polyester. If brushing, use a bristle,
nylon/polyester or nylon. See below for spray equipment
recommendations.
SPRAY EQUIPMENT RECOMMENDATION
Airless Spray: Pneumatic, hydraulic, or electric pump with a
minimum 2,000 psi material output pressure. Reversible
spray tip with a 0.017’’ to 0.025’’ orifice and a 40° to 60°
spray fan. Material spray lines must be properly rated for the
maximum working pressure of the pump being used.
DRY & RECOAT TIMES
Dry and recoat times are based on 77°F (25°C) and 50%
relative humidity. Dry times increase at cooler temperatures.
Dries to the touch in 6 hours; allow minimum 24 hours
recoat. Environmental or site specific conditions may
require variations in cure times.
COVERAGE
Apply two coats at 0.75 gal./100 square feet (1.6 m2/L) (12
wet mils) per coat for a total application rate of 1.5 gal./100
square feet (3.2 m2/L).
