HeartRateisanImportantKeytoYourExercise
TheSurgeonGeneralalsoreleasedareportonphysicalactivityandhealth.Thisreportdictatesthatexerciseand
fitnessarebeneficialforaperson’shealthandreiteratedtheneedforexerciseasakeycomponentfordisease
preventionandhealthierliving.
The
bestwaytodetermineexerciseintensityistomonitoryourpulserate.Yourheartratecaneasilybedetermined
bycountingthenumberofheartbeatsperminuteatthechest,wristorthecarotidarteryonyourneck.Itisdifficult
howevertocountyourownpulsewhileexercising
asitisnotpossibletocountfastenoughtoaccuratelytrackthe
numberofbeatsperminute.TheDiamondbackFitness500Erisequippedwithasetoftouchheartratesensorsfor
monitoringyourheartrate.
UsingtheTouchHeartRateSensors
Whiletheunitispowered‐onanda
workoutprogramisoperating,gentlygraspbothtouchheartratesensorsonthe
fixedhandlebarbelowtheconsole.Thecomputerwilldetectyourpulserateandregisterthevalueasatwo(2)or
three(3)digitnumberinthePulsewindowontheLCDdisplay.
NOTE: Ifaninconsistent
heartrateisdisplayedwhileusingthehandpulsesensors:
• Ensurethepalmsofbothhandsaretouchingthecontactareasofthe
touchheartratesensors.
• Applyandmaintainconstantandevenpressureuponthegrips.
• Donotclutchthetouchheartratesensorstightly.
• Try
tokeepbothhandsstillwhilegripingthetouchheartratesensor.
YourEstimatedMaximumHeartRate&TargetTrainingZone
Yourcalculatedtargetheartrate,ortheidealintensityneededtoimprove
cardiovascularfitness,dependsprimarilyuponyourageratherthanyourcurrentstateoffitness.Iftheexercise
intensityistoolowortoohigh,onlymodestgainswillbemadeinstrengthandcardio‐vascularfitness.Aworkoutat
