3600 Hubbing Device Installation Instructions
Document Number 3610-A2-GZ45-10
March 1996
Overview
This document describes the pin assignments and
procedure for installing the 3600 Hubbing Device.
The 3600 Hubbing Device is required to daisy
chain a Model 3610 Data Service Unit (DSU) onto
a Network Management System (NMS) control
channel (CC) or diagnostic channel (DC).
The hubbing device plugs into a modular jack
located on the rear of the DSU and provides two
8-pin modular jacks for DC/CC connections.
Prior to installing a 3600 Hubbing Device, check the
hubbing device for damage. If there are signs of damage,
report this immediately to your shipping representative
and your AT&T Paradyne representative.
WARNING
This equipment has been tested and
found to comply with the limits for a
Class A digital device, pursuant to
Part 15 of the FCC rules. These limits are
designed to provide reasonable
protection against harmful interference
when the equipment is operated in a
commercial environment. This
equipment generates, uses, and can
radiate radio frequency energy and, if not
installed and used in accordance with
the instruction manual, may cause
harmful interference to radio
communications. Operation of this
equipment in a residential area is likely
to cause harmful interference, in which
case, the user will be required to correct
the interference at his own expense.
The authority to operate this equipment
is conditioned by the requirement that no
modifications will be made to the
equipment unless the changes or
modifications are expressly approved by
AT&T Paradyne.
TO USERS OF DIGITAL APPARATUS IN
CANADA: The digital apparatus does not
exceed the Class A limits for radio noise
emissions from digital apparatus set out
in the radio interference regulations of
the Canadian Department of
Communications.

8-Pin Modular Jacks
Use the 8-pin modular jacks to connect the DSU to the
Network Management System, another 3600 Hubbing
Device, or a 3400 Hubbing Device. One jack supports CC
in and DC out. The other jack supports CC out and DC in.
Tables 2 and 3 list the pin numbers and signal names.
NOTE
The pin numbers on both
modular jacks are compatible
with the 3400 Hubbing Device.
Therefore, no additional adapter
is required when using the 3600
Hubbing Device and the 3400
Hubbing Device in the same
configuration.

Installing the 3600 Hubbing
Device
NOTE
When installing 3600 DSUs and
3400 Series or DATAPHONE II
modems on the same DC, install
the DSU ahead (upstream) of
the modems. This configuration
prevents the DSU from losing
contact if the modem loses
power.
Procedure
To connect the 3600 Hubbing Device to the DSU:
1. Configure the DSU for either CC or DC operation
using the Diagnostic Connection configuration
option as described in the COMSPHERE 3600
Series Data Service Units, Models 3610 and 3611,
Users Guide, Document number 3610-A2-GB46.
2. Plug the hubbing device’s 4-pin modular plug into
the jack labeled CC/DC and located at the rear of
the DSU.
3. Plug one end of the M6BJ cable into the hubbing
device jack labeled CC IN/DC OUT.
4. Plug the opposite end of the M6BJ cable into the
appropriate 6700 or 6800 Series NMS jack.
