Usually the unit plays CD-R, CD-RW, MP3 discs as well as “burned” DVDs. But due to
the variety of blank disc types, recording computers, operating systems and
burning software we cannot guarantee that every “burned disc” is playable.
The unit does not play DVD-ROM, CD-ROM etc.. And there is no way to play back
discs in SECAM colour system, just PAL and NTSC will be supported.
The types of functions and operations that can be used for a particular disc vary depending
on the features of that disc. In some cases, these functions and operations may differ from
the descriptions given in this Operations Manual. In this event, follow the instructions given
on the screen. This Operations Manual only covers basic disc operations. Therefore you
should also read the information enclosed to the Disc.

About the WMA Format
WMA is the abbreviation of Windows Media Audio and refers to an audio compression
technology developed by Microsoft Corporation. WMA data can be encoded by using
Windows Media Player version 8 or Windows Media Player for Windows XP. Files are
recognized by their file extension “.wma” or “.WMA”. “Windows Media”, and “Windows” are
trademarks, or registered trademarks of Microsoft Corporation in the United States and/or
other countries.
This unit will play CD-ROM, CD-R and CD-RW discs containing files saved in the MP3 or
WMA format with a sampling rate of 32, 44.1 or 48 kHz.
Fixed bit-rate MP3 files are recommended, or the playing time may not be shown
correctly.
This player is not compatible with lossless encoding or variable bit-rate (VBR) WMA files.
WMA files encoded with DRM (Digital Rights Management) copy protection will not play.
When naming MP3 and WMA files, add corresponding file name extension (.mp3 or
.wma). Files are played according to the file extension. To prevent noise and
malfunctions, do not use these extensions for other kinds of files.
This player can recognize up to 999 files (WMA/MP3) and up to 499 folders. If a disc
exceeds these limits, only files and folders up to these limits will be playable. Files and
folders are read/displayed in alphabetical order.
Folder and track names (excluding the file extension) are displayed.
Ø
This player cannot 100% playing all kinds of WMA/MP3/JPEG file disc because the unit’s
playability depends on the quality of the disc, bit-rate, and file structure.
6
About the MPEG4 and DivX Format
MPEG is the abbreviation of the Moving Picture Experts Group which belongs to the family of
ISO/IEC standards (International Organization for Standardization and International
Electrotechnical Commission). MPEG-4 is a compression technology for Interactive
Multimedia System. DivX is a brand-name video codec (compression-decompression)
technology codec based on the MPEG-4 standard that compresses video to small enough
sizes that it can be easily sent over the Internet, but retains a high degree of video quality.
This player is DivX 4 and DivX 5 compatible, which support up to home theatre profile
with maximum peak bit-rate = 10000 Kbps. The video resolution can support up to the
maximum of 720 x 480 @ 30fps and 720 x 576 @ 25fps.
This player supports the bitstreams that encoded in ISO MPEG-4 compliant. The visual
profile can support from Simple Profile (SP) level 0 to level 3 and Advanced Simple Profile
(ASP) level 0 to level 5, with maximum bit-rate = 8000 Kbps.
Notes:
Ø
There are many non-standardised DVD/MPEG-4/DivX/MP3/WMA/CD-recording
procedures and copy protection procedures now in use, and many different kinds of
DVD±R, DVD±RW, CD-R and CD-RW blank disks. Therefore in some cases read errors or
read delays may be encountered. This is not a defect of the device.
Ø
This player not responsible for playability of MP3 in any case. Due to recording condition
such as PC performance, writing software, media ability or etc.
Ø
For CD-RW or CD-R, it may not be played according to the type of this disc.
Before You Switch ON
Place in Position
Ø
For setting up the unit please choose a location with sufficient air circulation around. That
prevents overheating. Don’t expose the unit to direct sunlight or other heat sources.
Ø
The product must be positioned horizontally only. Don’t put any heavy objects on its
housing.
Ø
To protect the laser unit avoid dusty surroundings. If necessary, please use a cleansing
disc carefully following its operating instructions.
Condensing Moisture
In these cases water may be condensing on the laser lens causing malfunction:
Ø
The unit is suddenly brought from a cold to a warm surrounding.
=> Please take out the disc and wait for about an hour, until the unit has warmed.
Ø
The unit is operated in a very humid surrounding.
=> Please choose a location with lower humidity.
7
Handling Disc’s
Ø
In order to keep the disc clean please never touch its shiny surface.
Ø
Never put any sticker or adhesive label on the disc. Imbalance would occur and cause
malfunction.
Ø
Don’t expose discs to direct sunlight or other heat sources.
Ø
Please store the discs only in their sleeves.
Cleaning a Disc
To clean a disc use a soft cloth without any cleaning agent, liquid or solvent. Only wipe from
the centre hole towards the outer edge, never in circular movement.
Using the Remote Control Handset
1. Please open the battery compartment.
2. Insert two batteries (1,5 V, size AA, R6, UM-3, supplied
enclosed). Please make sure the polarity matches the
marks inside the compartment. Otherwise the r/c will not
work and may be damaged. Replace the cover.
3. Please point the r/c towards the main unit when operating
its buttons.
The r/c works properly in a distance below 5m and in an
angle of up to 60° of the front of the unit. No obstacles
may stand in the way between r/c and infrared sensor.
Ø
Should the r/c start to work unreliably replace both
batteries. We recommend using alkaline batteries.
Ø
Batteries should not be disposed by ordinary refuse
disposal. Please lead empty batteries towards
appropriate collecting points. Never throw batteries
into fire.
Ø
If you won’t use the r/c for some time, please remove the batteries from the

Stereo Connection with the TV using a 3-wire A/V Cable
Important Notes: - All cables shown or mentioned here are not
supplied with your DVD player. You’ll find them
at your local TV shop.
- Please switch off all equipment involved before
making any connections. This will protect your
speakers from possible damage.
1. When using a 3-wire RCA cable plug one
of the yellow A/V plugs into the VIDEO
OUT socket at the rear panel of the DVD
player. Plug the other one into the video
input of your TV set.
2. Use the red and white RCA plugs to
connect the FR and FL sockets of your
DVD player with the audio input of your
television. Usually the red wire
corresponds to the right stereo channel,
the white one to the left.
Using the S-video Connection
If your TV set provides a S-video input, we recommend to use this connection:
Using the SCART cable
To use the SCART connection, please proceed as shown here:
14
15
Using the HDMI interface
You can as well use the HDMI interface to feed your video display. HDMI is the abbreviation
for “High Definition Media Interface” and provides optimum picture quality. This jack gives
you an uncompressed digital interface that carries both video and audio data by way of an
integrated cable.
Note:
Make sure to configure the HDMI setup of the DVD player (S. 25) properly. The screen
resolution should matches the resolution of your TV as closely as possible.
Home Cinema Digital Audio Connection
Optical Digital Output
To keep the optical output from dust and dirt
we’ve put in a protective cap. If you’re going
to use the socket please carefully remove the
cap and store it. When you remove the
connection you should replace the cap.
