Before mounting a tire, make
sure that the tire is the correct
size for the wheel on which it
is to be mounted. Use only rim
cement that is specifically marked
for gluing tubular tires. If you
have further questions, or do not
understand these instructions,
consult your Bontrager dealer.
and rim
1.
If the rim is new, use a fine emery
cloth to roughen the well of the
rim to improve adhesion.
2.
Inflate the tubular slightly and
clean the base tape and rim with a
clean cloth (Figure 1).
Use a solvent like white spirits
or acetone.
To apply rim cement to the
tubular tire and rim
1.
Apply a thin layer of rim cement
to the rim well and the base tape
of the tubular (Figure 2).
3.
After rim cement on the rim and

tire has dried for approximately
10 minutes, apply a second layer
of rim cement only to the rim.
To install the tire
1.
Holding the tubular at the valve,
insert the valve into the valve hole
of the rim (Figure 3).
2.
With both hands, and working in
opposite directions from the valve,
apply tension to the tubular as
you stretch the tubular into place
on the rim.
Keep the valve stem straight in the
valve hole.
3.
As you near the side of the rim
opposite the valve, lift the tire up
and into the rim well (Figure 4).
Avoid rolling the tire onto the rim.
If the tire slides across the rim
cement, it will spread rim cement
onto the sides of the tire.
4.
Using the base tape as a guide,
center the tire on the rim (Figure 5).
5.
Inflate the tubular to between 110-
130 psi (8-9 bar).
Prior to use, let the glued tire
and rim sit for a minimum of 24
hours. The rim cement requires
this time to cure for proper
adhesion.
Inspection and care of
tubular tires
Before each use, inflate the
tubular tire to the pressure
recommended on the tire label.
Also inspect the tire for any cuts
or abrasions to the tubular casing,
and for any cuts or fraying in the
base tape.
After use, inspect tubular tires
for any damage. Remove any
debris such as metal, glass, small
stones, or anything stuck in the
tread. Clean tires with a mild,
soapy solution. Do not use cleaning
products containing hydrocarbons,
dilutants, or corrosives.
Store tubular tires in a dry place
away from light, and maintain the
tire air pressure at 70-90 psi (5-6
bar).

WARNING!
Never ride a bicycle with
an improperly mounted
tubular tire. A tubular
tire that is not properly
mounted can come off the
rim, causing you to lose
control, resulting in severe
injury or death. Follow
these instructions to
properly mount the tire, or
take your bicycle to your
dealer for service.
WARNING!
Do not ride a tubular tire
that has damaged base
tape. A tubular tire with
damaged base tape may
separate from the base
tape, causing the tire to
come off the rim. Replace
a tire with damaged base
tape before riding the bike.
