Positioning the system:
Proximity of walls and corners:
To ensure the best playback quality,
the speakers should be placed as far as
possible from walls and angles.
1. The unit should be placed at least
60cm (100cm is better) away from
walls or other obstacles on the rear
side and at least 40 cm (60cm is better)
from any obstacle on either side.
If used with a mixer or as a studio
monitor (neareld), the speakers need
to be placed on a parallel plane and at
the same height of the users ears.
For best listening experience, the ideal user position is in
front of the speaker, and the distance between each satel-
lite and the users head must be the same as the distance
between the two satellites, in order to create an equilateral
triangle as shown in the picture.
Also, the speaker should be oriented towards the user (the
two speakers need to be oblique at about 60°). The height of
the speakers should be set so that the tweeters are located at
the same level of the ears (high frequencies are especially
directive).

USB connector:
An USB connector is located on the back of the main speaker to
power USB MP3 players or other peripherals using a voltage of 5V
on 0.5A in direct current.
This allows to recharge the MP3 player (or other peripheral) during
use.
Setting bass, treble and volume:
The controls for bass and treble have innite range, so they can be turned
as much as desired. The zero position is shown by the blue LED lighting
up on the setting scale.
Turning clockwise will raise the level while turning counterclockwise with
reduce it; the same applies for the volume.
To use the S-5000 as studio monitors we suggest a completely at setting,
with both bass and treble LEDs lit.
Balanced input (XLR type)
This kind of connector can be found most frequently on professional products, recording boards
and other similar systems. The 3 pins XLR connectors are used for balanced signals, and they
provide the best reliability and performance with soundcards and other devices equipped with a
balanced output.

Remote control:
“Source” button:
The “Source” button is used to choose the audio input in use: the
available inputs are “3.5mm”, “RCA”, and “balanced XLR”. The
choice is shown on the front of the system by a group of blue leds.
The left LED indicates the balanced input with XLS connectors.
The center LED indicates the RCA connector input.
The right LED indicates the 3.5mm jack connector input.
“Standby” button:
The Standby button is used to put the audio system in standby:
the system will absorb only a minimal amount of current from the
network.
If you are not planning to use the system for a long time, we sug-
gest using the power switch (G) on the back. When the system is in
“STANDBY”, a yellow LED lights up on the front of the system.
“Mute” button:
The Mute button is used to bring the volume to zero. Pressing it
again will restore the previous volume level.
When the “MUTE” function is activated, a red LED lights up on the
front of the system.
“Volume +” and “Volume -”:
Press these buttons to raise and lower the volume of the system.
The change in volume will affect all inputs.
Every increase in volume will be shown by a LED ashing on the
front of the system.

Troubleshooting guide
Sound from only one speaker
Please ensure all speaker cable connections are correct. The speakers should be connected with stereo cable.
Please try an alternate sound source such as a CD player, MP3 or other player. If both speakers now work cor-
rectly, the original sound source is at fault. Please ensure the computer Soundcard is installed correctly.
When listening to a CD played by the computer, I hear the sound from only one speaker
This often happens with new computers – when listening to a CD played by the computer, you hear the sound
from only one speaker, but both speakers work if you listen to a WAV le or when you play a videogame.
This happens because the CD-ROM drive is not connected correctly to the soundcard, or one of the cable is
under short circuit.
Please refer to the CD-ROM drive user manual to x this jumper issue.
No sound from any of the speakers
1. Please ensure AC adapter is plugged in and power outlet is switched on.
2. Please ensure all audio cable connections are correct.
3. Please ensure sound source equipment is working correctly.

Speakers exhibit excessive noise
Empire speakers are of a very low noise circuit design. Some source equipment may have a poor signal
to noise ratio. Therefore, please unplug the input audio cable, and check if the noise is from the CD/DVD
player or the Computer Soundcard etc.
Magnetically Shielded Speakers
Empire system subwoofers and satellite speakers are all of a magnetically shielded design. You can place
the speakers near a TV or monitor.
To optimize the sound quality from your system:
Sit in a comfortable position at the computer desktop. Take time to test the listening environment by using
music CDs with wide frequency content and spacious left-to-right imaging.
The speaker driver used in the loudspeakers will change their characteristics subtly over the rst two weeks
of use as the suspension of the cones will loosen up slightly, producing a trace more warmth to the overall
sound texture.
Adjust the speaker placement (about 15-20 cm away from the walls) for the most realistic imaging and
tonal balance by listening to several different musical selections and game or computer sound effects.
