Helpful hints

• Rinse rice to remove excess bran and

starch. This will help reduce browning

and sticking to the bottom of the pot, but

it may also reduce nutrients in the rice.

ABOUT RICE

Rice is a valuable source of low fat, complex car -

bo hy dra tes and is abundant in thia min (B1 ), nia-

cin (B3 ) and iron. It is an essential ingredient for a

healthy diet. There are many dierent va rie ties of

rice available in the market. Your SQPRO Del uxe

Rice Cooker can cook any type perfectly every

time. The following are the commonly available

varieties of rice and their cha ra cte ri stics:

LONG GRAIN RICE

Typically this rice (Basmati rice) is not starchy

and has loose, individual grains after cooking.

SHORT GRAIN RICE

Short grain is characteristically soft, sticky and

chewy. This rice is usually used to make sushi.

“Pearl Rice”, so often called for its round shape,

is extra sticky and is excellent for making rice

puddings.

BROWN RICE

Brown rice is considered the heal thiest variety.

It has bran layers on the rice grains and con-

tains more B complex vitamins, iron, cal cium

and bre than polished (white) rice. The most

popular brown rice is long grain, which has a

chewy texture.

WILD RICE

Wild Rice comes in many delicious varieties

and mixes. It is often mixed with long grain rice

for its rmer texture and rich brown to black

color. Wild rice makes wonderful stung for

poultry when cooked with broth and mixed

with your favorite dried fruits.

Helpful hints

• Since most vegetables only absorb a

small a mount of water, there is no need

to in crea se the amount of water with a

lar ger ser ving of vegetables.

• Always keep the lid closed during the en ti-

re stea ming process. Opening the lid cau-

ses a loss of heat and steam, resulting in a

slower cooking time, and may also cau se

burns.

• If you nd it necessary to open the lid, use

cau tion. You may want to add a small

amount of water to help restore the cook-

ing time.

• Altitude, humidity and outside tem pe ra tu -

re will aect cooking times.
