Guide Objective and Terminology

This guide covers all of the steps required to connect a B - Series camera to a PC and configure the

camera for usage. For information related to the B - Series, refer to the applicable B - Series manual.

Warnings

1. Sensor temperature must be maintained less than the maximum sensor temperature

listed in the applicable manual. To ensure this, keep the StViewer “Mainboard”

temperature, also called chunk data “Camera temperature”, at the (sensor limit - 10°C)

2. Forced air cooling or additional heatsinking must be used if the ambient temperature is

>25°C

Mount the Camera

To mount the camera use one of the following methods:

1. Attach the B-Series camera to your equipment using either the M3 or M2 mounting holes on

the camera. Ensure that your mounting screws do not exceed the allowable depths of 4mm for

the M4 holes and 3.5mm for the M2 holes. Refer to the specific diagram in the manual for your

part number.

Install a Lens

In order to use a B-Series camera a lens must be installed. The camera is designed to use standard

C-mount lenses.

For more information on the available C-mount lenses see the Vision Accessory Catalog.

Refer to the applicable B-Series camera datasheet, to determine the camera’s sensor size and

resolution. Choose a lens family, which is appropriate for the resolution and sensor size, using the

Vision Accessory Catalog as a guide. Calculate the required lens focal length to attain the correct

field of view. The training “How to Select a Lens” may help ion the calculations. To attach the lens

screw the lens on to the camera. Torque should be “hand tight”.

Connect the Ethernet Cable and I/O Cable

In order to connect a B-Series Camera to a PC, an Ethernet cable is required. There is also an

optional I/O cable.

1. To attach the Ethernet cable, press it in to the RJ-45 jack.

2. Connect the RJ-45 connector on the other end of the Ethernet cable one of the following

ways:

a. If you have a POE compliant B-Series camera (STC-BBSxxxxPOE-BC)

i. To your PC, if you have a POE NIC card in your PC

ii. To a POE injector. Recommended injector = Omron V330-AP1. The injector

should be complaint with IEEE802.3af. Make connections as specified in the

documentation for the POE injector.

iii. To a POE switch. The switch should be complaint with IEEE802.3af. Make

connections as specified in the documentation for the POE switch.

b. If you have a non-POE camera (STC-BBSxxxxGE-BC)

i. To your PC

ii. To your Ethernet switch

3. To attach an I/O cable press the cable into the I/O port. Please see the manual for pinout and

interface information. Warning: The POE units and the non-POE units have different

interface specifications. Please read the manual carefully.

4. Wire the other end of the I/O cable, per the Camera manual.

Connect the Power Supply

1. The B-Series camera can be powered two different ways, depending on the camera version.

a. If the camera is a POE camera (STC-BBSxxxxPOE-BC)

i. If a compliant POE source is on the Ethernet connection, no additional power

supply is needed. Example sources:

1. POE NIC

2. POE injector

3. POE switch

ii. Warning: No not connect an external power supply to a POE camera

b. If the camera is a non-POE camera (STC-BBSxxxxGE-BC)

c. Power via external power supply.

i. Use a 12V DC power supply with a minimum rating of 5W

ii. Recommended power supply = S8VK-G01512

iii. Ensure that the power supply AC cable is disconnected

iv. Connect per the B-Series camera manual.

Download and Install the SDK Software

1. Down load the SDK software, using the below link:

2. Install the SentechSDK software as follows:

a. Unzip the SentechSDK(version).zip folder

b. Run the SentechSDKInstaller.exe file

Set up PC IP Settings

1. The best IP setting for the B – Series camera is “Obtain an IP address automatically”

Launch the B-Series Software

1. Click Start on the bottom left of the windows screen. Scroll down to the Sentech SDK v1.1

folder and open it. Run the StViewer_x64.

2. Locate your camera and double click it. The camera field may take a few minutes to populate.

3. Click the start icon on the top left.

4. Right click on the viewing area and select Zoom -> Fit to the Window

5. You should now see the camera video.

Camera Configuration

1. Configure the camera settings as need, using the below attached directions.

Acquire an Image

1. Select File -> Save Still Image …

2. Select the file location, file name and format.
