IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR RECHARGING HOT BATTERIES

When usingyourdrill-drive!continuously, the batteriesinyour batterypackwillbecome hat. You shouldleta hot

battery packcool downfor approximately30 minutes beforeattemptingto recharge.When the batterypeck

becomes dischargedand ishot,thiswillcause theyellowand green lightson your batterychargerto comeon

insteadofthe red light.The yellow and green lightsindicatesoft start mode and will switchto greenonly, indicat-

ing slowchargemode. The red lightindicatesfast chargemode, 1 hourchargetime. The green lightindicates

slowcharge mode, requiringovernightchargingfor batteries to roachfull charge. If the green lightcomes on

after lettingbattery packcooldown, removeitfrom chargerfor additionalcooling.0 ncethe battery pack cools

down, you can recharge battery packin fast charge modeas normal. Do not leave a hot battery peck in charger

untilitcoolsdown, The green lightwill notgo offwhen batterypackcools, Iffast charga mode isdesired,you

must physicallyremove a hot batterypack from the charger,let itcool,then place it backin charger afterit has

cooled down.

Note: This situationonlyoccurswhen continuous use ofyourdrillcauses the batteriesto become hot, Itdoes

notoccurunder normalcimumstances. Refer to"CHARGING BA'I-rERY PACK" for normal rechargingof

batteries.If the charger does not chargeyourbattery pack undernormalcircumstances,return both the battery

CHARGING BA'I-rERY PACK

The batterypackfor thistool has been shippedin a

lowchargeconditionto prevent possible problems,

Therefore, you shouldcharge ituntil lighton frontof

charger changesfrom redto green.

Note: Batterieswillnot reach fullchargethe firsttime

they are charged.Allow several cycles(ddlling

followed by recharging) for them to become fully

charged.

TO CHARGE

• Charge battery pack onlywith the charger

provided,

• Make sure power supply is normal household

voltage, 120 volts, 60 Ha, AC only.

• Connect charger to power supply.

• Place batterypack in charger aligningraiseddb in

charger withgroove in batterypack.

• Pressdown on battery packto be sure contactson

battery packengage propadywith charger

contacts.

• Normally,the yellowand green lightson charger

will comeon. Thisindicatescharger isin softstart

mode end shouldswitchtofast charge modewithin

5 minutes.When chargeris infast charge mode

the red lightwillcome on.If after a period of15

minutestheyellow and green lightsremainon,

remove batterypack, wait 1 minuteand reinsert

batterypack incharger. Ifthe yellowand green

lightscontinueto remain on after an additional15

minutes,the bettery pack isdamaged and willnot

accepta charge. Return battery packto your

nearest Seers Repair Center for checkingor

replacing.

• When yourbattery pack becomesfullycharged,the

red lightwillturnOFF and the green lightwillturn

ON.

• After normalusage, 1 hourof chargingtime is

requiredto be fullycharged,A minimumcharge

time of1-1/2 hours is requiredto rechargea

completelydischargedtool.

• The battery pack willbecome slightlywarm tothe

touchwhile charging.This isnormal and does not

indicatea problem.

• Do not place charger inan area ofextreme heat or

cold. It willwork bestat normal roomtemperature.

• When bettedes becomefullycharged, unplug

chorgerfrom powersupplyand remove the battery

pack.

locatedon top ofyourddllto select either HI or LO

speed.When usingdrillinthe HI speed range, speed

willincreaseand unitwill have lesspowerand torque.

When usingdrillin the LO speed range, speedwill

decrease and unitwill have more powerand torque.

Use HI speed for fast drillingor drivingapplications

and LO speed for high powerand torque applications.

• Loosenthe chuck jaws fromdrillbit.

• To loosen:graspand holdthe collarofthe chuck

withone hand,while rotatingchuckbody withyour

other hand. Note; Rotate chuckbodyinthe

directionofthe arrowmarked UNLOCK to loosen

chuckjaws.

• Do not usea wrenchto tightenor loosenthe

chuckjaws.

• RemoveddUbitfrom chuckjaws.

ADJUSTABLE TORQUE CLUTCH

Your ddll is equippedwith an adjustabletorque clutch

for drivingdifferenttypesof screwsintodifferentmate-

rials. The propersettingdependson the type of mate-

dal and the size of screw you am using.

TO ADJUST TORQUE

• Identify the twenty four torque indicator settings

locatedon thefrontof yourddll.See F{gum 10.

• Rotateadjustingringtothe desiredsetting.

When drillinghardsmoothsurfaces usea center

punchto markdesiredhole location.This willprevent

the ddllbitfrom slippingoffcenter as the hole is

started. However.the lowspeed feature allows

starting holeswithoutcanter punchingifdesired,To

accomplishthis, simplyoperate yourddll at a low

speed untilthe hole isstarted.

The material to be drilledshouldbe secured ina vise

orwith clampsto keep it from turningas the drillbit

rotates.

Holdtoolfirmlyand placethe bitat the pointto be

drilled.Depressthe switchtriggerto start tool.

Move the drillbitintothe workplaceapplyingonly

enoughpressureto keepthe bit cutting,Do notforce

or applyside pressureto elongate a hole.

WARNING: Be preparedfor bindingor bit

breakthrough.When these situationsoccur,drill

hasa tendencytograb and kickoppositeto the

directionof rotationand couldcause lossof

control when breakingthrough material.If not

prepared, thisloss ofcontrolcan resultin

possibleserious injury.

When ddllingmetals, usea lighto11onthe drillbitto

keep itfrom overheating.The oil will prolongthe lifeof

the bit and increasethe drillingaction.

Ifthe bit jams inworkplecaor ifthe drillstalls,release

switchtdgger immediately,Removethe bitfrom the

workplecaand determinethe reasonfor jamming,

CHUCKREMOVAL

The chuck must be removed inorder to use some

accessodes. To remove:

• Locktheswitchtdggerbyplacingthedirectlonof

rotationselector incenter position.See Figure5.

• Inserta 5/16 inchor largerhexkey wrenchintothe

chuckofyourddlland tightenthe chuckjaws

securely.

• Tap the hex kay wrench sharplywitha mallet in a

clockwisedirection.See Figure 14.Thiswill

loosenthe screw inthe chuckfor easy removal.

MALLET

Inserthex key wrenchin chuckand tighten chuck

jaws securely.Tap sharplywith a mallet ina

counterclockwisedirection.Thiswillloosen chuck

on the spindle.It can now be unscrewedby hand.

TO RETIGHTEN A LOOSE CHUCK

The chuckmay become loose on spindleand develop

a wobble.Periodicallycheckchuck screwfor tight-

ness.A loose chuck screwmay cause the chuckjaws

to bindand preventthemfrom closing,

To tighten,followthese steps:

• Lockthe switchtdgger by placingthe directionof

rotationselector in canter position.See Figure 5.

• Open thechuckjaws.

• Insert hax key wrenchintochuckand tighten

chuck jaws securely,Tap hax key wrenchsharply

with a mallet in a clockwisedirection.This will

tightenchuckon the spindle.

Open thechuckjaws and remove hax key

wrench.

BATTERIES

Your drill'sbattery pack isequippedwith 14 nickel-

cadmiumrechargeable batteries.Length of service

from each chargingwilldepend on the typeof work

you are doing.

The batteriesinthis tool have been designedto

providemaximumtroublefree life. However, like all

batteries,theywilleventually wear out.Do not

disassemble batterypack and attemptto replacethe

batteries. Handlingofthese batteries, especiallywhen

weadng rings and jewelry, couldresultin a serious

bum.

To obtainthe longestpossiblebatterylife,we suggest

the following:

• Store and charge yourbatteriesina coolarea.

Temperaturesabove normalroomtemperature

willshortenbattery life.

• Never store batteries in a dischargedcondition.

Recharge them immediatelyafter theyare

discharged.

• All batteriesgraduallylosetheir charge. The

higherthe temperaturethe quickerthey losetheir

charge. If you storeyourtoolfor long pedodsof

time withoutusing it, rechargethe batteries every

monthortwo. This practicewillprolongbattery

life.
