1. Safety
1.1 General safety information
¾ Read the operating manual and the safety information
(material no. 1239438, red document) in its entirety before
putting the machine into service. Closely follow the instructions
given.
¾ Before putting the machine into service, read the operator's
manual and the safety information (material no. 125699, red
document) in its entirety and closely follow the instructions
given.
¾ Comply with the safety regulations in accordance with
DIN VDE, CEE, AFNOR as well as any other regulations that
apply in the individual countries.
Warning
Risk of injury due to improper handling
¾ Always remove the compressed-air hose from the machine
prior to maintenance work.
¾ Check the compressed-air hose, connection coupling, and
machine for damage each time before using the machine.
¾ Wear safety glasses, hearing protection, protective gloves
and work shoes when working at the machine.

2.1 Intended use
Warning

¾ Only use the machine for work and materials as described
under "Intended use."
The TRUMPF C 160-3 Slitting Shears are a compressed-air tool
used for the following applications:
Cutting plate-shaped, metallic workpieces, e.g. steel,
aluminium, and plastic.
Cutting straight or curved exterior and inner cutouts.
Cutting along lines.
The TRUMPF C 160-3 PLUS Slitting Shears also allows you to cut
off chips that are produced while machining the workpiece as
required.

3. Setting work
3.1 Cutting parallel strips
Parallel stop
The parallel stop (option) can be used to process parallel strips
35-300 mm / 1.38-11.75 in wide.
1. Remove the bolt for the blade.
2. Mount the parallel stop.
The rod of the parallel stop adopts the function of the blade bearing
arrangement.

3.2 Selection of tools
Note
The blades have 2 cutting edges. They cannot be resharpened.
Different types of blades are required according to the thickness or
tensile strength of the workpiece (see Table 4, p. 9).
Note
If the blade is not selected as specified in the table,
the quality of cut will be severely impaired.

4. Operation
Warning
Risk of injury due to improper handling
¾ Make sure the machine is always in a stable position when
operating it.
¾ Never touch the tool while the machine is running.
¾ Always operate the machine away from your body.
¾ Do not operate the machine above your head.
4.1 Operating the C 160-3
1. Press the lever (1) against the motor housing.

2 Guide the machine at an angle of about 15° to the sheet
surface.
Note
Do not subject the machine to heavy loads to such an extent that it
stops.
To protect the machine and for a good cutting performance:
Ensure that blades are sharp.
Turn insertable blades in due time.
Replace insertable blades in due time.
The following applies when cutting radiuses:
Do not tilt the machine.
Proceed with a low feed rate.

¾ Release the lever (1).
Note
Do not move the machine towards the workpiece until full speed
has been reached.
4.2 Separating chips
Caution
Damage to property from interrupted chip brake
The machine may no longer be used.
¾ Replace the chip separator.

1. Separate the chips: turn the handle by a 3/4 clockwise rotation
while the machine is running.
2. Continue the operating procedure: turn the handle to the
starting position.

Replacing the blade
Caution
Damage to property caused by dull tools
Machine overload.
¾ Check the cutting edge of the blade hourly for wear. Sharp
blades ensure good cutting quality and help protect the
machine. Replace the blades in due time.
If the cutting edges are blunt, replace the blades.
1. Press out the bolt which has been locked into place.
2. Pull the blade out of the cutting head.
3. Grease new blade and bolt lightly.
4. Insert the new blade.
5. Push the bolt into the bore hole until it locks into place.
Turning or replacing the insertable blades
1. Undo the fixing screws.
2. Check the insertable blades:
¾ When a cutting edge is blunt, turn the insertable blades
180°.
or
¾ If both cutting edges of an insertable blade are blunt,
replace the insertable blade.
3. Tighten the fixing screw.

Replacing the blade
Caution

If the cutting edges are blunt, replace the blades.
1. Remove the locking washer using a screwdriver.
2. Push out the bolt.
3. Pull the blade out of the cutting head.
4. Lightly grease the bolt and the new blade.
5. Insert the blade.
6. Push the bolt through the bore hole of the blade until it reaches
the stop.
7. Insert the locking washer into the specified notch of the bolt.

1. Undo the fixing screws.
2. Check the insertable blades:
¾ When a cutting edge is blunt, turn the insertable blades
180°.
or
¾ When both sides of the cutting edges of an insertable
blade are blunt, replace both insertable blades.
3. Turn the handle by a ¾ rotation to the right, in order to bring
the blade into the cutting position.
4. Push the chip separator onto the cutting head until the chip
separator is positioned over the front edge of the blade.
5. Hold down the chip separator and insertable blades in this
position.
6. Tighten the fixing screw.
7. Turn the handle to the left to the working position.

5.3 Replace fins
Worn fins decrease machine performance.
¾ Have the fin set checked and replaced as required by a
qualified specialist.
Note
Only use original replacement parts and observe the information
on the rating plate.
5.4 Checking the oil supply to the motor
Caution
Damage to property due to improper handling
Failure of the compressed-air motor.
¾ Regularly lubricate the compressed-air motor. Install an oil
mist lubrication device into the compressed-air line (e.g. Atlas
Copco DIM 25).
¾ Hold a piece of paper in front of the air extractor vent in the
motor housing when the machine is running.
The oil supply is sufficient when oil spots appear.

BP Energol RD 80 (-15° to +10°C / +5° to +50°F)
BP Energol RD-E80 (+10° to +30°C / +50° to +86°F)
Shell Tellus Oil 15 (-15° to +10°C / +5° to +50°F)
Torculla 33 (+10° to +30°C / +50° to +86°F)
5.5 Cleaning the strainer
1. Dismantle the air inlet.
2. Clean or replace the strainer.
