1 Updating the StudioLive AI
console rmware
The rmware update process is designed to preserve your mixer’s scene and
Fat Channel preset memory. Nevertheless, as a precaution, we recommend
that you back up your scenes and presets before updating the rmware.
If your mixer is registered to your MyPreSonus account and is connected to
a network with Internet access, you can update the rmware directly and
skip to Step 11.
1. Download the
rmware les for your
mixer from your
MyPresonus account.
To nd these les,
click on the See
Details link on your
StudioLive
registration and click
the “Firmware tab in
the details area.
IMPORTANT: StudioLive 16.4.2AI, 24.4.2AI, and 32.4.2AI mixers each
use dierent rmware les. Loading the wrong rmware can cause
the mixer to function improperly and can potentially damage the
unit.
2
2. Open your
Downloads folder
and locate the
StudioLive rmware
folder. The folder will
be named with your
mixer’s model
number and the new
rmware version
(e.g.,
SL3242AI_v4733).
3. Depending
on your system
preferences, the
firmware.zip
archive le might
not automatically
decompress. To
expand the .zip
archive, simply
double-click it.
4. Open the rmware
folder; you will nd
ve les inside. You

does not detect your thumb drive at rst,
we suggest reformatting it, even if its
already formatted as FAT32. On
Windows, be sure to do a “Full” format
as opposed to a “Quick” format. On
Macs, the choice will be listed as
MS-DOS (FAT). Please refer to the list of
suggested drives that can be found on
our Knowledge Base.
6. Select all ve rmware les and
either copy/paste or drag them
to the root of your thumb drive.
Eject your drive and disconnect
it from your computer.

3 Using the StudioLive RM as a remote
stage box and monitor mixer with a
StudioLive AI console at FOH
There are several dierent ways to utilize your new SL-AVB-MIX card
with the StudioLive AI mixer. The following details the most common
setup using a StudioLive RM mixer as a remote stage box and monitor
mixer with a StudioLive AI console at front-of-house (FOH). For more
setup options and use cases, please refer to the User Manual, which
is available as a downloadable PDF in your MyPreSonus account.
NOTE: you must also update the rmware on your StudioLive RM
mixer to enable AVB functionality.
3.1 Connecting a StudioLive AI console
with a StudioLive RM as a stage box
and monitor mixer
1. Using a standard CAT5 or CAT6
Ethernet cable, connect the
StudioLive AI console directly
to the StudioLive RM mixer.

3.2 Routing audio between the mixers
Once the StudioLive RM mixer is connected as a remote stage box,
the audio routing will be connected for you automatically.
Inputs
All inputs from the StudioLive RM mixer on stage are routed as input options
on the AI console at FOH, and all inputs from the AI console are routed
as input options on the RM mixer. By default, the inputs are routed 1 to 1,
meaning input 1 on one mixer is the network input for input 1 on the other
mixer, input 2 is the network input for input 2, and so on. If a StudioLive
AI console with fewer than 32 inputs (such as a 16.4.2AI) is being
used,
then only the rst 16 StudioLive RM inputs will be routed by default.
When connected to an RM mixer,
the Digital Input button on the AI
console will default to assigning
the network input, rather than
assigning the FireWire input. To
assign an input on the AI console to
a network input from the RM mixer,
simply engage the Digital Input
button on the associated channel.
10
The AI console at
FOH can also use a
FireWire input as the
source. To do this,
select the FireWire
input in the master
control screen. When
you select a channel,
the Channel Info
page will be shown
on the screen.
Press the Next button until the Digital
Return option is highlighted, then use
the Value knob to change the setting
to FireWire.
You can also assign a network input
from the AI console at FOH to an input
on the RM mixer on stage. This is
useful when you have additional
sources at FOH, such as wireless
microphone receivers or computer
playback tracks, that need to be sent
to the monitor mixes in the RM mixer.
To assign an input on
the RM mixer to a
network input from
the AI console, select
the input source or
open the Channel
Settings view in UC
Surface and then
change the source
from Analog to
Digital.

Outputs
The main left and right outputs of the
RM mixer will be taken over by the
main left and right mix from the AI
console.
Talkback
The talkback input on the AI console is
routed to the talkback input on the RM
mixer. You can change this at any time
by selecting a dierent talkback
source in the settings view of UC
Surface for the RM mixer.
3.3 Remote-controlling the StudioLive RM inputs
When using an RM mixer as a stage box and monitor mixer for an AI console,
you have control over the RM mixer inputs directly from the console. On
any input that is assigned to the network input, the following functions
will control the remote RM mixer input associated with that channel:
Remote preamp gain. When the
channel is selected, the Value knob in
the Master Control Display will control
the RM preamp gain.

+48V phantom power. The +48V
button on the AI console channel will
control the +48V phantom power on
the associated RM mixer channel.
Polarity. The Polarity button on the
associated channel will control the
polarity on the associated RM mixer
channel.
3.4 Setting up talkback
By default, the Talkback input of the AI console will be routed
to the talkback source for the RM mixer. The Talkback button on
the AI console will also engage talkback on the RM mixer. To set
up talkback from FOH to the stage, simply select the RM mixer
monitor outputs with which you wish to communicate.

1. In UC Surface for
the RM mixer, select
Talkback, then select
the mix destinations.
3.5 Saving and recalling scenes
Since the StudioLive AI console and RM mixer work together as a unied
system, you have linked scenes for saving and recalling. To ensure exibility
for both FOH and monitor mixes, there are two ways to manage scenes.
Managing scenes from the AI console
Once the AI console at front-of-house is connected
to an RM mixer/stage box, any scene you save on the
AI console will save the state of both the AI console
and the RM mixer. When you recall a scene saved
this way, the scenes for both mixers are recalled.
Recalling a scene that was saved without an RM mixer
connected will only recall the scene for the AI console.
Managing scenes from the RM monitor mixer
When saving and recalling scenes directly to
the RM mixer, the scenes will only save and
recall to that mixer and not to the AI console.
This makes it easy to manage separate monitor-
mix setups when alternate performers are used
and you do not have changes to the FOH.
