DV-1 Quick Reference Guide
Basic Operation for Version 5.0
DVD Disc Media
Insert DVD disc label side UP.
USE ONLY:
WatchGuard Evidence™, Sony®, or
Maxell® brand DVD+RW discs
Blank Disc Detected
Choose YES to format the disc
to begin recording.
Ejecting DVD’s
Eject DVD discs by holding
down the STOP/QUIT key.
Used Disc Detected
Choose Reuse to confirm you
wish to overwrite a used disc.
(Supervisor permission may be required)
Do not use the Manual
Eject Button to eject discs
because the system may not
be done writing to the disc.
Start Recording
Activate the emergency lights,
wireless microphone, or press
the RECORD key.
Stop Recording
Press the STOP/QUIT key.
Each recorded EVENT creates a
CHAPTER on the DVD.

Recognizing the DVD
This error is most likely caused by a
permanent defect in the media, the
result of poorly manufactured or
damaged/scratched DVDs. When this
occurs,theDVDcannolongerbeused
bytheDV-1.Itmustberemovedfrom
the system and replaced with a new
DVD. Video is still being recorded to
theharddrivebuerinthe system,sowaituntiltherecordingeventis
completebeforepressingtheRESETbuttononthescreen.
ManuallyejecttheDVD.1.
Afterpressing2. RESET,thesystemwillreboot.
Oncethesystemreboots,insertanewDVD.3.
“Reuse” the Current Disc
Ifthesystemhasbeensuccessfullyburningto
aDVD,andthentheDVDsuddenlybecomes
unrecognizedandyouarepromptedto
“Reuse”theDVD;rebootthesystemtoseeif
thediscwillberecognizedfollowingarestart.
Ifnotrecognizedafterreboot,press1.
EJECTtoejecttheDVD.
InsertanewblankDVD.2.
Therstdiscshouldplayallcompletedchapters.Anyuncompletedchapters
willbeburnedtothenextDVD.
SOFTWARE MESSAGES
MOST SOFT ERRORS ARE FIXED BY REBOOTING
SoftErrorswilloccuroccasionallywhenasoftwareapplicationorsystem
processhasstalledorcrashed.MostsofterrorsoccurwhentheDVDdrive
hasbeenstrugglingtoreadorwritetoadiscforanextendedperiodof
time,orbypowerinterruptionasaresultofavehiclestart.
Softerrorsmaybeidentiedasa
communicationproblemoranerrorwith
anapplicationnamesuchasSTATEMGR.”
ASoftErrordoesnotmeanthereisa
hardwareproblem.SimplypressRESET
torestartthesystem.
Temperature Issues
Unexpected System Reboots
TheTemperatureScreenisdisplayedduring

DVD Drive Temperature Range
TheDVDDriveistakenoine”whenthetemperatureisoutside
thenormaloperatingrange,andonlineoncethetemperature
normalizes.Thesystemmayrequestarebootwhenready.
CHECK INSTALLATION
ImproperinstallationWILLcausesysteminstability.Iferrorsarecommon,
conrmthattheinstallerhasconnectedthepowerandgroundwires
throughtherewalldirectlytothevehiclebattery(notmerelygrounding
tothecarframeoraterminal).
