ATTENDANT OPERATED WHEEL LOCKS
FOR 2000,4000 RECLINER WHEELCHAIRS -
KIT NUMBERS 7400036 AND 7400037
NOTE: Check ALL parts for shipping damage. In case
of shipping damage, DO NOT use. Contact Carrier/
Dealer for further instruction.
SAFETY SUMMARY
The following recommendations are made for safe in-
stallation and adjustment of the Attendant Operated
Wheel Locks:
GENERAL WARNINGS
DO NOT install or use this equipment without
first reading and understanding this instruction
sheet. If you are unable to understand the Warn-
ings, Cautions or Instructions, contact a health-
care professional, dealer or technical person-
nel before attempting to install this equipment
- otherwise, injury or damage may occur.
DO NOT attempt to stop a moving wheelchair
with the wheel locks. WHEEL LOCKS ARE NOT
BRAKES.
INSTALLATION WARNING
After making adjustments and BEFORE use,
make sure all attaching hardware is securely
tightened.
REPLACING THE ATTENDANT
OPERATED WHEEL LOCKS
(FIGURE 1)
NOTE: Refer to INSTALLATION WARNING in the
SAFETY SUMMARY in this instruction sheet.
1. Remove the mounting screw and locknut that se-
cures the locking rod to the back tube mounting
bracket.
2. Slide anti-rattle up and off of locking rod.
3. Perform one (1) of the following:
a. If converting from Patient Operated Wheel
Locks, proceed to STEP 6.
b. If replacing current Attendant Operated Wheel
Locks, continue with STEP 4.
4. Loosen the locknut that secures the attendant op-
erated wheel lock to the recliner tube.
5. Slide the existing attendant operated wheel lock
up and off of the locking rod.
6. Slide the NEW attendant operated wheel lock
down locking rod and onto the recliner tube.
7. Reposition the anti-rattle on top of recliner tube.
8. Resecure the locking rod to the back tube mount-
ing bracket with the existing mounting screw and
locknut. Securely tighten.
9. Adjust the Attendant Operated Wheel Lock. Re-
fer to ADJUSTING THE ATTENDANT OPER-
ATED WHEEL LOCKS in this instruction sheet.
10. Repeat STEPS 1-9 for opposite wheel lock, if nec-
essary.

NOTE: Refer to INSTALLATION WARNING in the
SAFETY SUMMARY in this instruction sheet.
NOTE: If wheels are pneumatic, before adjusting or
replacing the wheel lock assemblies, ensure that the
tires are inflated to the recommended psi. The recom-
mended psi is listed on the side wall of tire.
1. Loosen the locknut that secures the wheel lock to
the recliner tube.
2. Adjust the position of wheel lock until the mea-
surement between the rear wheel and the wheel
lock shoe is between 5/32 and 5/16-inches.
3. Securely tighten the locknut.
4. Engage wheel lock and push against the wheel-
chair and determine if wheel lock engages the
wheel lock shoe enough to hold the wheelchair.
5. Repeat STEPS 1-4 until the wheel lock holds the
wheelchair.
6. Repeat STEPS 1-5 for the opposite wheel lock.
NOTE: Ensure the wheel lock shoe completely cov-
ers the tire contact area. See DETAIL "A" for proper
positioning of wheel lock shoe.

WARNING
DO NOT attempt to stop a moving wheelchair
with the wheel locks. WHEEL LOCKS ARE
NOT BRAKES.
1. Perform one (1) of the following:
A. ENGAGE - Apply pressure downward on
wheel lock handle.
B. DISENGAGE - Lift up on wheel lock handle.

NOTE: Refer to INSTALLATION WARNING in the

1. Remove the existing axle mounting screw and
locknut that secures the rear portion of the patient
operated wheel lock assembly, pivot arm spacer
and rear wheel to the wheelchair frame.

2. Remove the 5/16-inch mounting screw, bushing,
washer, and locknut that secures the strap and
stud assmebly of the patient operated wheel lock
to the wheelchair frame.
3. Secure the rear wheel to the wheelchair frame with
the axle mounting screw and the 3/4-inch spacer
provided. Securely tighten.
4. Install the attendant operated wheel locks. Refer
to REPLACING THE ATTENDANT OPERATED
WHEEL LOCKS in this instruction sheet.
