HUMMER-3/5/10KW wind generator consists of two main parts: generator body and yaw
shaft.
The generator body consists of generator and blades. Yaw shaft system is with function of
direction-regulating and consists of gearbox, direction-regulating DC motor and dogvane,
etc.

HUMMER-3/5/10KW wind generator is directly driven by rotor blades without any other
speedup equipment.
The patented wind generator featuring with high efficiency and super legerity settles in
the cone which is in front of the rotor blades. This design is helpful to radiate heat.
2. Description of System Function
Name Name

The whole wind generator system consists of 7 parts:
generator body (including rotor blades), yaw shaft, tower, wind generator PLC controller,
rectifier / dump load controller, inverter, and energy storage system (off-grid system uses
batteries; for grid-tied system, power will be transferred to grid directly.).
2.1. Dogvane
It receives wind signal, indicates wind direction, and reads the average value of the angle
measured by the dogvane every 120s. If the angle read by the dogvane is larger than 10°,
the wind generator controller will order the DC 24Vdirection-regulating motor to drive
yaw shaft to rotate and fulfill the function of facing wind automatically.
NOTES:
The factory set start-up wind speed value of HUMMER wind generator is 1m/s. If wind
speed is less than the required start-up wind speed, the system will keep in standby mode.
Users can set the start-up wind speed value in the “User Parameter Setting” interface on
the Hummer Controller according to the actual needs.
2.2. Anemometer
It measures wind speed, if the measured wind speed is over the required wind speed for
the wind generator to start continuously for 30s, the wind direction auto tracking system
will start up and the wind generator controller will drive the DC 24V direction-regulating
motor to seek the wind direction automatically. Blades receive the maximum wind energy
when they are windward. They can not receive any wind energy; hence stop running when
parallel to the wind direction.
2.3. Wind Generator Direction-regulating
When blades rotate too fast owing to high wind speed, the controller will alarm for “over
speed. And the controller will drive DC 24V direction-regulating motor with yaw shaft
to deflect wind direction about 30°. If the blades still rotate too fast, the controller will
further drive blades to deflect 60°, and then the blades will be parallel to wind direction
and stop running. After 5 minutes, the controller will drive the DC24V direction-regulating
motor to seek wind direction again. If the alarm is not released, the blades will keep parallel
to wind direction.The controller will drive the DC 24V direction-regulating motor to make
the blades deflect 90° and parallel to wind direction if any of below situations occurs.
2.3.1. When the wind generator's temperature is up to 145°C, the controller indicates “over
temp.
2.3.2. When wind speed is higher than the alarm wind speed, the controller indicates "Over
wind speed".
NOTES:
All above functions are based on “Auto” mode.
2.4. Manual Tracking Function:
Select “Manual Seek Wind” interface on the screen of HUMMER controller, Switch the
mode from “Auto” into “Manual. When under “Manual mode,

positive angle keeps increasing.
2.4.2. Keep on pressing the “Corotation” button, the negative angle keeps increasing.
During this process, the yaw shaft can stop at any angle in the range between -270 º and
+270 º to realize the function of “Manual tracking.
SPECIAL CAUTION:
When wind speed is higher than 18m/s, in order to protect the wind generator system from
any unpredictable damage, user can use “manual track” function to set the blades aside or
back to wind direction which will let the wind generator stop working. Or users can set the
blades 30°- 45° off the wind direction so that wind energy received by the blades will
decrease and the rotational speed will slow down.

you start the installation, or the wind generator can not work normally.

2.7.1. Please connect three generator temperature wires to the temperature transducer
according to the mark.Temp1 to up, Temp 2 to middle, Temp 3 to down.
2.7.2. Please connect two generator output cables (U/V) to the output cable connectors.
2.7.3. Please connect the three generator rotating speed wires (G. Speed, V-, V+) to the
signal wire connectors.

CAUTION:
Please connect the wires strictly according to the marks on them.
2.7.4. Install the dogvane, and then please connect the three dogvane signal wires (V-, V+,
W. Direct ) to the signal wire connectors.
As it is shown in the following picture, Hummer wind generator has three main cables
which are extended out from the bottom of yaw shaft.
One is the AC output cable of wind generator with the specification as below:3KW and
5KW: 2*6 mm². 10KW: 2*10 mm².
Another one is high voltage power supply wire for DC direction-regulating motor with
the specification of 2*1 mm². It will transmit power to the DC 24V power supply on the
yaw shaft and then suppl to DC direction-regulating motor after converting.
The last one is for the signal transmission for the whole system with specification of 8*
0.3 mm². 7 of them are respectively used for 24V DC direction-regulating motor to rotate
clockwise or anti-clockwise, generator rotational speed signal, generator temperature
signal, yaw shaft angle signal, dogvane signal and GND power wire(V-), the rest one is
for spare use.

4.1. Structure
As shown in above picture, speed-reducer direction-regulating motor is a motor that
requires DC24V power supply and consists of two parts as the speed reducer and direction-
regulating motor. Normally, it consumes 35W to 60W to regulate the directionof the blades.
When there is strong wind or too heavy load, the instantaneous consumedmaximum power

4.2. Power Supply
AC220V grid power or DC 160V-DC 300V will be converted into DC24V by the DC24V
power supply in the yaw shaft and supplied to the direction-regulating motor through the
relay, which is under the control of HUMMER controller.
might reach up to 250W. If the consumed power is more than 250W, the controller will
protect it automatically and cut off the power supply to direction-regulating motor. And
power will be supplied again in 120 seconds.

SPECIAL CAUTION:
There is a generator rotational speed sensor on the generator connection base.
It is forbidden to tie the steel wire at this position when lifting the generator head.
7.1.3. Take out the blades; connect the 3 blades properly to the flange. (As blades need
accurate position, bolts must be fastened tightly against blades. Please use a hammer to
hit the bolts into the corresponding holes on the blades). Then cover the flange and fasten
the nuts.

CAUTION:
The side marked with “FRONT” shall be adown and windward. All the 3 rotor blades have
passed balance test and they need to be used together. Please do not disorderly use the
blades belonging to other wind generators.
7.1.1. HUMMER-3KW:
Pull a steel wire through any of the holes on the generator connection base. Use crane to
take out the generator from the packing box. Then put it on the sponge cushion and take
off all the nuts, bolts and blades fixing flange from it.
7.1.2. HUMMER-5/10KW:
Pull the steel wire through the lifting loop on the generator connection base.

7.2.2. The Installation of Generator and Yaw Shaft
Focus the screw holes in the generator connection base with those in the yaw shaft soleplate,
and then fix the generator to the yaw shaft with outer hexagonal bolts ( 3KW: M14*55;
5KW: M18*80; 10KW: M18*90 ), and then fasten the nuts tightly.

7.2. The Connection of Generator Head and Yaw shaft
7.2.1. Lifting the Yaw Shaft
Put steel wires through the lifting hole under the yaw shaft soleplate. Lift the yaw shaft
with the crane hook. Then slowly descend it to the best position for fixing it to the
generator on ground.

7.2.3. Connect the two main output cables of generator (U/V) to the wire connectors, and
fasten them tightly. (These two cables are interchangeable.)
7.2.4. Connect the three thin wires (G. Speed / V-/V+) in the generator rotational cable to
the signal wire connectors on the yaw shaft respectively.
7.2.5. Connect and fasten the generator temperature signal wire to the temperature
transducer which is at the side of gearbox.
NOTES:
There are three thin wires in the generator temperature signal cable. Connect the one
marked “Temp 1” to the top terminal block on the temperature transducer, and the other
two (Temp2/ Temp3) to the below terminal blocks , as shown in the following pictures.

7.3. The Connection of Generator and Tower
7.3.1. Drive the cable under the yaw shaft through the tower and pull it out from the hole at
the bottom of tower.
7.3.2. Fasten the supporting base of the yaw shaft with the flange on the top of the tower
with outer hexagonal bolts, and then fasten the nuts.

7.4. Assembly of Dogvane and Dogvane Support
7.4.1. Connect dogvane support to the yaw shaft with inner hexagon screw. Fasten tightly.

7.4.2. Put the yaw shaft protection cover to the yaw shaft through the dogvane support.
7.4. 3. Put the seal ring into the seal cover, then insert the dogvane support into the seal
cover and tighten them.

7.4.4. Hold up the protection cover, then put in the dogvane cable from the top of the
support and pull it out from the bottom of the support. Connect the three thin dogvane
data wires (W. Direct/V- /V+) to the corresponding terminal on the signal wire connector.
7.4.5. Put dogvane onto the support. Fit the zero-position hole on the dogvane to the screw
hole on the support and then fasten it with the cross screw.

7.5. Assembly of the Lightning Rod
If you selected the lightning rod, please fix the lightning rod onto the yaw shaft plate when
you assemble the dogvane support.
7.6. Put on the yaw shaft protection cover; fix it to the yaw shaft with cross screw. Tighten
the water proof cover along the dogvane support and lightning rod.

8. Assembly Precaution
8.1. Before the installation of new product, please open the cover of the gear box lubrication
hole and input the engine oil with the acutilingual bottle.(3KW: 0.5L; 5KW: 1L; 10KW: 2L)

8.2. A wind generator consists of 3 blades which have passed the rigorous balance tests.
Any of them can not be exchanged with other wind generator; otherwise the blades will
run abnormally which will result in serious shaking. Please don't take wrong blades which
are not belong to the same set.
8.3. For off grid system, the power generated by wind generator will charge batteries after
being rectified, different model collocates different numbers of batteries, please follow the
suggested battery information in the user's manual. And make sure the voltage of batteries
matches with the output voltage of wind generator. If batteries' voltage is too high or too
low, the generator system may work improperly or some parts of the system could be burn
out.
8.4. Collocation of Batteries
8.4.1. HUMMER-3KW wind generator requires to connect 15 PCS 12V 120AH/200AH
batteries.
8.4.2. HUMMER-5KW wind generator requires to connect 20 PCS 12V 150AH/250AH
batteries.
8.4.3. HUMMER-10KW wind generator requires to connect 20 PCS 12V 150AH/300AH
batteries.
CAUTION:
New batteries shall be fully charged with the grid power firstly. Please connect the battery
bank in series and make sure connect the anode (+) and cathode (-) to the corresponding
BATTERY” switch anode (+) and cathode (-) terminals on the rectifier/dumping controller.

8.5. Emergency Shut Down
When there is typhoon or gale(such as more than grade 10) forecast, please use the manual
tracking function to switch the control model into “MANUAL” mode and press “Manual
Stop” button to drive the yaw shaft to deflect 90°which will make the blades parallel to
wind direction. Then put the “Wind Generator Stop/Operate Switch” at the “Stop” position.
The wind generator will stop working. After the heavy wind, please put the “Wind Generator
Stop/Operate Switch” at the “Operate” position, and switch the “MANUAL” mode into
AUTO” mode, the wind generator will work normally.
WARNING:
Only when the blades stop rotating or rotate at a very low speed, you can switch the “Wind
Generator Stop/Operate Switch” from “Operate” to “Stop. Any trying to switch it when
the blades rotating at a very high speed will cause a big shock to the generator or burn it out.
9. Daily Maintenance
The HUMMER wind generator is highly reliable and does not need frequent maintenance.
However, regular inspection and maintenance can ensure the system's normal operation.
9.1. Fasten the Screw
Check and fasten the screws on the flange, yaw shaft and tower. This work should be done
at least one time each year.
9.2. Renew the Lubrication Oil
The user shall renew the Lubrication oil in the gear box every two years.
9.3. Transmission Cables Inspection
Check whether the connecting points of the cables arewell-connected and whether any
corrosion exists.
9.4. Battery Maintenance
Regularly check and maintain the batteries bank as per the maintenance requirements of
the batteries. If there is no wind for a long time, don't let the batteries in electric deficit
state for too long. Charge it with grid power in time.
10. Safety Tips
HUMMER wind generator is designed under strict safety regulations. However, for any
electrical and/or mechanical equipment, it may cause potential inherent dangers during
installation or operation if proper safety precautions are not taken. Please consider safety
firstly while choosing the installation location, installing and operating the generator, and
be aware of the mechanical danger, electric danger and installing danger.
10.1. Mechanical Danger
The rotation of the blades is the most dangerous equipment where danger may occur. You
should install the wind generator in the place where people can not reach the rotating blades.
10.2. Electric Danger
HUMMER wind generator has necessary protection equipment.
When the voltage and current are over the rated value, the protection equipment will cut
down the circuit. But the potential danger still exists. Please be careful when you connect
the wire with other electrical equipments. Wire heat is possibly due to too much current
which goes through a thin wire or a well-connected wire. Thus, regular check of the wire
joints is very important.

SPECIAL CAUTION:
Please don't get close to the wind generator in windy weather. To avoid unpredicted dangers,
the blades must be tied to the tower, or the wind generator need to be lain down on the ground
when there is a forecast of heavy typhoon.
11. Troubleshooting

12. Annex: Anemometer Assembly
12.1. Please refer to the steps of the dogvane assembly. Pull the anemometer cable
through the support firstly and then fasten the anemometer to the support with a screw.
12.2. Settle the anemometer support to a place near to the wind generator to make sure the
anemometer can detect the wind speed normally. It is also ok to assemble the anemometer
onto a stand.
Make sure that the anemometer should be in similar height with the wind generator.
This will ensure the wind speed data collected by the anemometer is correct.
