Quick Start Guide
COOLMAX SR

1) Remove the access cover at the bottom of the COOLMAX SR
unit by removing the two M3 screws on the bottom of the
enclosure as shown in image.
2) All COOLMAX SR wiring must enter the unit via a conduit fitting
that needs to be inserted by user prior to inserting any cabling.
The conduit will be located inside the unit at delivery.
3) Remove the conduit from inside the unit and fix to the bottom
of the COOLMAX SR Unit by attaching the conduit on the
outside and the locking nut on the inside as shown in image.
4) Double or triple ganged circuit-breakers
can be connected in series to give the
desired voltage rating as shown in the
picture above. It is important that the peak
voltages are taken into account when
selecting breakers.
IMPORTANT: AERL recommends the use of
6kA, 8kA or 10kA DC rated circuit breakers
with an appropriate voltage rating on both
input and output.
5) AERL recommends that the COOLMAX SR
be utilized in a floating system whenever
possible. For very exposed systems, it is
recommended that a lightning conductor be
provided nearby to prevent damage to PV
equipment, batteries and the COOLMAX SR.
WARNING: The chassis of the COOLMAX SR should be earthed by installing
an earthed ring terminal under the bottom left mounting bolt of the chassis. DO
NOT EARTH THE ARRAY in any way if a negative earth is used for the batteries
or DC system.

6) Once the conduit has been attached the unit can then be wired
to the central terminal block (J2) through the conduit for power
in and power out (J2 1- 4).

WARNING: Incorrect wiring will cause damage to the
unit and void product warranty.

8) Once wiring is completed replace the access cover. The
correct sequence to power up the COOLMAX SR unit is to
ensure that the PV side is turned on first. Wait for the LCD
screen to power up and then connect the Battery Power.
9) Enter PIN Code to access LCD Display. The PIN Code is a
permutation of the unit Serial Number which is printed on a
yellow sticker visible when the access cover is removed or via
the yellow Info button on the LCD Display. The PIN Code is
equivalent to the 4 digit Serial Number of the unit with the first
and second digits transposed and the third and fourth digits
transposed eg. Serial Number 1234 = PIN Code 2143.

to give the basics of setting up your new COOLMAX SR MPPT, when installed in a typical installation. Please refer to
the COOLMAX SR User Manual for full product features, specifications, instructions and safety warnings.

10) When the unit is first turned on, battery charge output power is disabled. To activate
output battery charge power, press the ON/OFF switch at the bottom of the LCD Screen.
The Output Control screen now shows the output is OFF. Press the Enable Output button
to turn it on and wait till the screen shows the output is now ON. Press the Back button to
go back to the Main Menu screen. To turn battery charge output off, press the ON/OFF
switch at the bottom of the LCD Screen. The Output Control screen now shows the output
is ON. Press the Disable Output button to turn it off and wait till the screen shows the
output is now OFF. Press the Back button to go back to the Main Menu screen.
IMPORTANT: Prior to adjusting any charge profile settings, reconnecting output or input
breakers that have tripped, or performing any maintenance on the batter system, it is
essential to turn off the COOLMAX SR battery charge output.
