anefficientpackageforeasymaintenanceaccesstoallowforconciseandsystematic
troubleshooting.Learningthebasicsofthisprocess,inadditiontoproperprogrammingand
operatingprocedures,isessentialbeforeattemptingtooperatethesystem.
Thismanualisdesignedforthefieldtechniciantousewhilesettingupandrunningashow.Itis

componentsintheunitCPUforDMXoperations.EachXenonunithassevencomputer
controlledvariableparametersemployingservomotorswithattachedopticalencoders.Each
motorreceivespositionaldataviatheSyncrolitemotorcontrolmicroprocessoronindividually

AllSyncroliteproductsuseDMXprotocol.WerecommendamaximumDMXcablelengthof
2000’,thoughthesystemwilloperateupto1milefromtheDMXsourcewithqualitycableand
aDMXsplitter.ForarchitecturalSeriesunits,Syncroliteprovidesa6wayand12wayDMX
splitter.ThesearenecessaryinsystemsinwhichSyncrolitestatusmonitorproductsareused
normallyinlargefixedinstallations.

CAUTION:Syncroliteballastsarehighcurrentdevicesandcarelessnessmayresultin
electrocutionordeath.Donottouchtheterminalsorheatsinkswithyourhandsor
withanoninsulatedmetallicinstrument.Donotallowanyconductivedevicetobridgethe
terminals.
Itisessentialthatpowerismeteredbeforepoweringupthesystemandthatthetapsareset
correctly‐particularlywhenoperatingoverseas.Syncrolitepowerdistrosprovidetestpoints
formeteringincomingpower.Beforepoweringupthesystem,confirmthatCamlocsarefirmly
seatedandtwistedtofulllockingposition.
AllSyncroliteballastsarebreakerprotected.Intheeventthatthebreakertripsimmediately
determinethesourceoftheinterruptionofpowerorphaseimbalanceandcorrectthe
problem.Oncetheproblemiscorrected,resettheunitbydepressingthephaseimbalance
resetswitchontherearoftheunit.

Syncroliteballasttapsmaybesettoaccommodateavarietyofvoltages.Toconfirmthatthe
tapsettingsarecorrect,meteramperageandvoltageandcalculatewattage(AxV=W).
Amperagemaybedeterminedbyuseofanampprobeclampedaroundthepositiveofthe
lampheadcableleadfromtheballast.

Ifcalculatedvoltageishigherorlowerthanexpected,resetthetapsforthevoltageinyour
location.

PoweringUptheSystem
ProperinitializationiscriticaltosuccessfuloperationsoftheSyncroliteproduct.Weadvisethe
operatortocarefullyandsystematicallyfollowtherecommendedstartupprocedures.Ifthere
isaproblem,itusuallystartshere.
OnlycertifiedSyncrolitetechniciansorpersonneltrainedbyacertifiedSyncrolitetechnician
shouldcarryoutsystemoperationandmaintenance.
Onceyoursystemisproperlysetup,werecommendthefollowingsteps:
1.Powerup.Allunitswillinitializeuponpowerup.Theunitswillnotstrikeuntilastrike
commandisgivenfromtheDMXcontroller,laptoporfromtheonboardmenu.
Atthispoint,eachunitshouldhavefansrunningandbeinthehomeposition‐50%panand
50%tilt‐withallmotorsactiveanddouserclosed.
Checkeachunit’sIDandmakeanoteofitschannelnumber,itsphysicalpositionorlocationin
thelightingsystemanditscorrespondingACdistrochannel.Ifnecessary,makeawrittenchart
orconsolemapofthisforeachshowtoeliminateconfusionbetweentheACdistrochanneland
thecontrolchannelnumber.TheunitsIDcanbeanynumberfrom136astheoperator
requiresforprogramming.Thefixtureshavedigitalswitchesontheskid.
2.TurnonyourDMXcontroller‐checktomakesuretheproperDMXprofilehasbeenloaded
intothecontroller.
3.Youmayturnoneachindividualunitatthedistroandwatchitgothroughitsinitialization
routine.TheSyncroliteunitshavespecificcalibrationroutines.Thecalibrationroutinewilltake

eachofthesevenmotorstoitssensormarksandtothehomepositionaftercalibration.The
calibrationroutineusuallytakes30seconds.
4.Ifaparticularparameterdoesnotcalibrateproperly,issuearesetcommand.Maximum
timeoutforafunctionis2.0minutes.Afterthis,ifaparameterisnotcalibratingyoushould
refertotheTroubleShootingSection.
5.WATCHANDLISTENCAREFULLYASYOUSTRIKEEACHUNIT‐YOUSHOULDHEARTHELAMP
TRYTOSTRIKE
Ifanyunitdoesnotproperlystrike‐thenreset.Iftheunitstilldoesnotproperlystrike‐
refertotheTroubleShootingSection.
DuetothehighvoltagesurgerequiredtoenergizethearcinaXenonlamp,ourmicro
processorshutsdownmomentarilyduringlampstrikeandthereafterreinitializesthe
systemtocounteractanylossoffunctionintheprocessorcausedbytheRFgenerated.
6.Whenalllampsarestruck,eachuntilwillcalibrateinthehomeposition.Atthistimethe
lampwillgotowhateverDMXisbeingsenttoit.Youcanselectchannelsandtestthe
individualmotorfunctions(color,beam,douser,panandtilt)attheconsoleforeachunitto
ascertainifallunitsarereceivingandrespondingtocommands.


MenuFunctions
Diagnosticfunctionsareaccessedviathemultifunctionbuttonsandliquidcrystaldisplayonthe
electronicsboxofthelampheads.
Onpowerup,thedisplaywillread“CALIBRATING”anddisplaythesoftwareversion.
Oncecalibrationiscomplete,“CALIBRATING”willbereplacedwiththeunitID#,whichwillbe
anintegerrepresentingarangeofDMXorunit#’s,thenumberofwhichchannelsis
determinedbythetypeofunit.

Toaccesstheonboardmenu,simultaneouslypressbutton1and5.Thefirstscreenshould
read“SETID”.Buttons4and5willmapto(+)and()inthedisplaywindow.Usebuttons4(+)
and5()toincreaseordecreasetothedesiredvalue.

1and2toselectthedesiredmotor,andbuttons4and5toinputthedesiredvalueforthat
motor.

button2“Nxt”toproceedtothenextmenu.

Selecting“Nxt”againwilltakeyoutothe“LOOKENCODERS?”menu.Selectbutton3“YES”to
enterthemenu.Thismenuprovidedalistingofeachencoderanditscurrentnumericalvalue
andcanbeusedtoverifyfeedbackfromeachencoder.Thismenuactsasamonitorofencoder
functionandnoinputoradjustmentispossible.Allmotorsaredisengaged.Youcanmanually
