Pro Series EZCamera™ Cable
System for Professional
Camcorders
999-6500-000 North America, 999-6500-001 International
Overview:
The Vaddio Add-A-Cam PRO System was designed to seamlessly integrate with the Vaddio
ProductionVIEW™ Series of camera control systems and high definition or standard definition professional
camcorders. The Add-A-Cam Pro system is the heart of a truly flexible camera system that has many
options which include the model of pro camcorder, pan/tilt head mechanism and mounting options. The
centerpiece of the Add-A-Cam PRO system is the EZCamera PRO Camcorder Shoe and the rack mountable
Quick-Connect PRO cable breakout box. These active components use high speed differential signaling for
the video signals as opposed to baluns which gives this system high definition video capability, superior
video quality over longer Cat. 5 cabling distances and the ability to adjust the video signal for both distance
and Y-Gain depending on the length of the cabling used.
The Add-A-Cam PRO delivers either high definition or high resolution standard definition video up to 500’
(152.4m) over standard Cat. 5 cable with little or no signal loss. The Add-A-Cam Pro has many unique and
professional features including support for LANC (lens control), tally contacts and lights on the Quick-
Connect PRO and EZCamera PRO, Genlock support, component video outputs (Y, Pb, Pr), automatic
control LINK for auto-recognition of the Add-A-Cam PRO when used with the ProductionVIEW series of
camera controllers.
Intended Use:
Before operating the product, please read the entire manual thoroughly. The system was designed, built and
tested for use indoors, and with the provided power supply and cabling. The use of a power supply other
than the one provided or outdoor operation has not been tested and could damage the camera and/or create
a potentially unsafe operating condition.
Save These Instructions:
The information contained in this manual will help you install and operate your system. If these instructions

INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS:
The Add-A-Cam PRO Base System and Canon camcorder (optional) are intended to be installed on either a
professional quality video tripod, or the Vaddio Pan/Tilt PRO robotic pan/tilt head. Installation is simplified in
that no specialty cabling (8-pin mini-DIN, plenum-rated S-video, etc.) is needed and an end-to-end Vaddio
cabling solution is used.
If using the Vaddio Pan/Tilt PRO, be sure to mount the unit near an electrical outlet, as you will need power
for the 24VDC power supply required to operate the Pan/Tilt head. The two main cables connected between
the EZCamera PRO Shoe and the Quick-Connect Pro are two Cat. 5 cables. One Cat. 5 cable is dedicated
to Video and the 2nd Cat. 5 carries power and control to the EZCamera Shoe and camcorder.
CAUTION: Make sure to do conductivity tests on all cables after connectors are terminated
to ensure proper pin-outs of all cables. It is important to confirm that the Power/Control and
Video cables are labeled and connected to the correct ports. Connecting the wrong Cat. 5
cable, or an improperly terminated cable can result in damage to the system, which will void
the warranty. The maximum length of the Cat. 5 cables should not exceed 500 feet.
If technical support is required during the installation process, please call Toll Free 800-572-2011 and ask for
Add-A-Cam Technical Support.
Before Installing:
Tripod Mount: If mounting the Shoe and camcorder on a tripod, make note of the maximum length
the camera will be away from the Base unit. Maximum length cannot exceed 500 feet.
Leave enough excess Cat. 5 cable at the Shoe to pan and tilt the camera fully and not put stress on
the cable connections in the Shoe ports.
Pan/Tilt PRO Mount: If installing the Add-A-Cam PRO on the Pan/Tilt PRO, turn on and test the
system using this manual, then refer to the Pan/Tilt PRO installation guide for details on mounting
the camera.
Pre-wire cabling as required. The system uses two (2) Cat. 5 cables to connect the Quick-Connect
PRO Interface to the EZCamera PRO Shoe (see wiring diagram examples in this document).
Step-by-Step:
Step 1: Route the Cat. 5 cabling from the camera location to where the Quick-Connect PRO break out
box will be located. Leave excess slack in the cabling to allow the camera to pan and tilt through its
complete range of motion before doing the final dressing of the cables.
Step 2: Mount the Quick-Connect PRO break out box in the equipment rack or the head-end equipment
location.
Step 3: Carefully screw the EZCamera PRO Shoe down to the bottom of camcorder, making sure that
the Cat. 5, Power and LANC jacks are facing the back of the camcorder. Place the camera with the
attached shoe on a tripod or Pan/Tilt Head.
Step 4: Connect the video outputs of the camcorder to the EZCamera PRO Shoe
For HD video use the D-Term to 3-RCA (Y, PB, PR) cable supplied with the camcorder
For SD video use either an S-Video or BNC video cable
Note: The Add-A-Cam product will send either SD or HD video from the EZCamera PRO Shoe back
to the Quick-Connect PRO, but not both simultaneously. Make sure that the HD/SD switch on the
back of your Quick-Connect PRO interface unit is on the correct setting for your application.
Step 5: LANC Connection
If controlling the lens from the ProductionVIEW console, connect the LANC out of the
EZCamera Cable shoe to the LANC port on the camera with a 2.5mm TRS cable.
If using an external LANC controller, connect the controller directly to the camera.
ADD-A-Cam PRO
Add-A-Cam PRO - Document 341-592 Rev. C Page 7 of 13
Step 6: Power Connection
Remove the DC-920 power adapter supplied with your Canon camcorder. Connect the
adapter to the camera. Follow the cable from the adapter down to the Power port on the
Shoe. Cut the cable to an appropriate length and terminate the cable ends to the supplied
Phoenix type (2-pin spring cage) connector according to the example below.
Step 7: Cat. 5 Connections
Power: Connect the Power/Control Cat. 5 between the Quick-Connect PRO and the
EZCamera PRO Shoe. Leave enough slack for adjustments to the cabling to ensure full
range of motion of the Shoe on a tripod or on a pan/tilt head.
Video: Connect the Video Cat. 5 between the Quick-Connect PRO and the EZCamera PRO
Shoe. Again, leave enough slack for adjustments to the cabling to ensure full range of
motion of the Shoe on a tripod or on a pan/tilt head.
Verify: Verify the connections - inserting the Cat. 5 cable, or an incorrectly terminated
cable into the wrong RJ-45 jack may cause damage to the camera system and will
void the warranty
Pan/Tilt: If using the Pan/Tilt PRO pan/tilt head, connect the Pan/Tilt RJ-45 on the
EZCamera Shoe to the RJ-45 with a short Cat. 5 patch cable (straight through).
Control: Connect a Cat. 5 cable from the LINK port on the Quick-Connect PRO to a camera
control port of a ProductionVIEW series camera control console.
Step 8: Initial Power Up
Connect the 36 VDC Power Supply to the Quick-Connect PRO. Power will travel down the
Power/Control Cat. 5 cable to the Shoe, powering the camera. Follow the instructions in the
camcorder manual and switch the camera on to the appropriate setting.
If the System is communicating, the Green Power LED will be on a solid green
If the Power/Control Cat. 5 is not connected correctly, or has a cabling problem, the
Green LED will blink in one-second intervals. If the Green LED blinks, there is a
cabling issue that requires resolution.
To ensure proper continuity of control and operation of the cameras, the RS-232
controller (control system or joystick) should be powered on after the camera.
Step 9: Completing the Installation
After the system is powered up and the solid Green LED is verifying system communication,
turn on the ProductionVIEW series camera controller. The ProductionVIEW will auto-
recognize and load the control codes for the Add-A-Cam system. The ProductionVIEW
controller will control the Pan/Tilt PRO pan/tilt head and control the Zoom function of the
camcorder lens through the LANC connection.
Figure 9: Power Connection
Connect the stripped cable with the
screw terminal on the right side of the
connector with the screws pointed up.
This diagram is for Canon XL-2, XH-A1,
XH-G1 and XL-H1 camcorders. Refer
to the owner’s manual for appropriate
termination for any other camcorders.

Vaddio Technical support - Vaddio technicians will determine and discuss with the customer the criteria for repair costs
and/or replacement. Vaddio Technical Support can be contacted through one of the following resources: e-mail support
at [email protected] or online at www.vaddio.com.
Return Material Authorization (RMA) number - Before returning a product for repair or replacement, request an RMA
from Vaddio’s technical support. Provide a technician with a return phone number, e-mail address, shipping address, and
product serial numbers and describe the reason for repairs or returns as well as the date of purchase and proof of
purchase. Include your assigned RMA number in all correspondence with Vaddio. Write your assigned RMA number on
the outside of the box when returning the product.
Voided warranty – The warranty does not apply if the original serial number has been removed or if the product has
been disassembled or damaged through misuse, accident, modifications, or unauthorized repair. Cutting the power
supply cable on the secondary side (low voltage side) to extend the power to the device (camera or controller) voids the
warranty for that device.
Shipping and handling - Vaddio will not pay for inbound shipping transportation or insurance charges or accept any
responsibility for laws and ordinances from inbound transit. Vaddio will pay for outbound shipping, transportation, and
insurance charges for all items under warranty but will not assume responsibility for loss and/or damage by the outbound
freight carrier. If the return shipment appears damaged, retain the original boxes and packing material for inspection by
the carrier. Contact your carrier immediately.
Products not under warranty - Payment arrangements are required before outbound shipment for all out of warranty
products.
*Vaddio manufactures its hardware products from parts and components that are new or equivalent to new in
accordance with industry standard practices.
