PARTS INCLUDED FOR INSTALLATION:
PLEASE NOTE: Your Stoll Grate Heater must be assembled and installed correctly.
Please read and follow all instructions carefully. Incorrect assembly or installation could result in a damaged
Grate Heater and/or a dangerous condition. Failure to heed these warnings could result in a fire and/or loss of
life and property. If you do not feel confident that you are equipped to complete the assembly and the installation
properly please contact your Stoll Dealer to arrange professional installation.
If you have questions:
Contact your Stoll Fireplace Dealer or Stoll Fireplace, Inc. before proceeding with installation.
 Unpack the Grate Heater and identify all of the parts listed in the parts list above. Place the Wood Grate on a flat surface
with the manifolds facing toward you in preparation for assembly. (Figure 1)
 Locate the electrical power source nearest the fireplace. The Blower can be installed on the left or right side of the Grate
Heater. The Blower, Heat Transfer Plate, and the Power Cord should be installed on the side closest to the wall outlet.
 Attach the Heat Transfer Plate (“L” shaped part) to the front Log Holder with 1/4-20 screw and nut. (Figure 2)
 Remove the cover from Blower Assembly. Install the Blower Assembly to the Grate Heater by tipping the Grate up and
sliding the manifold flange and the Heat Transfer Plate between the Blower Heat Shield and inner case.
NOTE: The Heat Transfer Plate must be inside the Heat Shield and in contact with the Thermal Switch. (Figure 3)
 Fasten the Blower to the Grate Heater manifold using 2) 1/4-20 screws through the blower flange. (Figure 3)
 Attach the Warm Air Outlet Vent to the other manifold with 2) 1/4-20 screws. (Figure 4)
 Slide the Rubber Grommet onto the Power Cord. Insert the Rubber Grommet into the cutout in the Switch Case nearest
the power outlet. Install the Rubber Plug into the unused cutout in the opposite end of the switch case. (Figure 5)
 Connect the Power Cord to the Blower wiring. Connect Green to Green. Connect Power Cord White to Black from the
Blower. Connect Power Cord Black to Black from Speed Switch. See Wiring Diagram (Figure 9) on Page 4.
 Reinstall the Blower case cover with the fasteners removed in Step 4.
 Assemble the Vent Trim Cover by sliding the two cover halves together and attach to the Grate Heater. The Vent Trim
Cover must be trimmed to size. If the Grate Heater is to be used with a fireplace enclosure, trim the Vent Trim Cover to
the same width as the fireplace enclosure. Alternately trim the Vent Trim Cover to the width of the fireplace opening. In-
stall the End Caps on the Vent Trim Cover with the cord cutout on the Blower end. (Figure 6)
 Reinstall the Vent Trim Cover onto the Grate Heater and fasten securely with 2 screws. Install the Switch Knob.
NOTE: The Vent Trim Cover will not be used on Stoll Enclosures with laser cut vents in the frame.
 Install the assembled Grate Heater into the fireplace. Level the grate using the leg leveling bolts. (Figure 7)

Installation & Operating Instructions
CAUTION: Do not light a fire until you read and completely understand the Operating Instructions that follow. If you
have any questions or concerns, please contact your Stoll Fireplace Dealer or Stoll Fireplace, Inc. before proceeding.
GENERAL SAFEGUARDS:
 Excessive heat can cause damage to the Grate Heater. Very hot wood fires can cause warping or other damage and
shorten the life of the Grate Heater. This type of damage, caused by over-heating, is considered abuse and is not
covered under warranty.
 Do not burn trash, construction materials, pressure treated lumber and/or railroad ties in your fireplace. The intense
heat that these types of materials can produce can damage the Grate Heater and the fumes from burning these
types of materials can create a serious health hazard.
 Dry, seasoned hardwood, aged 6 to 9 months, is recommended as the safest and most efficient firewood. When
wood is green and/or burned very slowly, it produces tar and other organic vapors, which combine with expelled
moisture to form creosote. This creosote residue accumulates on the flue lining and, if ignited, may start a dangerous
chimney fire. The chimney should be inspected for creosote build-up frequently and cleaned as necessary.
INSTALLATION:
 Inspect the fireplace and the chimney flue for signs of loose mortar, damaged brick, and creosote build-up. If repairs
are indicated contact your Stoll Fireplace Dealer or a professional chimney sweep to arrange an inspection.
 Center the assembled Grate Heater in the fireplace opening. Check that the Grate Heater is level side to side and
front to back. Adjust the leveling bolts as necessary.
 Install the fireplace enclosure (not included). The fireplace enclosure rests on top of the Vent Trim Cover.* The Vent
Trim Cover should be flush with the face and ends of the fireplace enclosure. Carefully follow the manufacturer’s
instructions for installing and securing the fireplace enclosure in the fireplace.
* NOTE: Stoll Fireplace Enclosures with laser cut vents will conceal the Grate Heater vents behind the enclosure.
 Plug the Grate Heater power cord into the nearest 110v electrical outlet.
OPERATION:
CAUTION: Do not burn a fire on the Grate Heater with the blower turned off or during a power outage.
WARNING: The Stoll Wood Grate Heater is for use with wood fires only. A Gas Log Grate Heater is available.
IMPORTANT: The Blower must be running when the fire is burning. If the Blower fails or electrical power is lost, al-
low the fire to die and discontinue use until the Blower is repaired or power is restored. Leave the glass doors fully
open until the fire has burned out. Ignoring this advice can cause damage to the Grate Heater and Blower.
 The Blower is equipped with a temperature activated switch (Snap Disk) and a Variable Speed Switch.
The thermal Snap Disk will turn the Blower on when the switch heats to 120°F and off when it cools to 100°F.
The Variable Speed Switch regulates the speed of the blower and therefore the volume of warm air it delivers.
Turn switch knob clockwise or counterclockwise to regulate the air flow and air temperature at the vent.
If the air coming from the air vent is too cool the blower speed is set too high relative to the size of the fire.
NOTE: The Snap Disk provides the On/Off function for the Blower when it is working properly. The Variable Speed
Switch has an OFF position. Do not use the OFF function unless the Snap Disk fails and the blower continues to
run when the fire is cold. If the Snap Disk fails have it replaced immediately by your Authorized Stoll Dealer.
 Build and maintain small to moderate wood fires. The Grate Heater is designed to provide adequate clearance be-
tween the fire and the enclosure to help prevent heat damage to the enclosure. A roaring fire can overheat and dam-
age the Grate Heater and/or the enclosure frame, glass, finish, and/or discolor the metal. Damage caused by over-
heating is considered abuse and is not covered under warranty.
 Keep the glass doors open and the screens closed when the fire is burning. You will get the maximum radiant heat
from your fireplace with the glass doors open while the Grate Heater provides warm convection air. The screens
must be kept closed at all times when a wood fire is burning except when loading or maintaining the fire.
 Never leave the room with both the glass doors and screens open. Upon retiring for the evening, or leaving the room
for an extended period, the glass doors can be closed to provide maximum spark protection. Before closing the
glass doors ensure that the wood fire is under control and of moderate size or smaller. The fireplace flue damper
should be left fully open. Once the fire is completely extinguished, close the fireplace flue damper and close the
glass doors to minimize heat loss up the chimney.
MAINTENANCE:
CAUTION: The Grate Heater and fireplace enclosure must be at room temperature before cleaning.
 Disconnect the power cord from the electric source prior to performing any maintenance.
 Remove wood ash buildup before the ashes reach the bottom of the wood grate. Use a fireplace shovel and a metal
container or an ash vacuum specifically designed to handle wood ash. Consult your Stoll Dealer for availability.
 Ashes should be placed in a metal container with a tight fitting lid and retained there until all cinders have thoroughly
cooled. Place the container on a non-combustible surface. The container may be very hot until the ashes cool.
 At the end of the burning season the Grate Heater can be painted with high temperature stove paint to control rusting
over the Summer if desired.

A WORD ABOUT ENERGY:
Keep your glass doors closed when the fire is out.
Fireplaces are designed to draw air and smoke up the
chimney. Vented gas log installations require that the fire-
place damper be fixed open at all times. The warm air
created by your heating system is going up the flue.
Closing the glass doors in your fireplace enclosure will
close off 99% of the fireplace opening and help stop heat
loss up the chimney.
In some cases the air flow in the chimney reverses and
cold air flows down the chimney. Glass doors help stop
the cold drafts. For more serious down-drafting Stoll
makes Air-Seal doors that are gasketed for a better seal.
