INTRODUCTION AND INSTRUCTIONS
The CAV 12 comes fully assembled. It is specifically designed
for dry pick-up of fine dust made from the grindings of wood or
gypsum.
Intalled are three filtering elements (see figure 1). The
elements include the Tank Liner (part number 53856A), the
Filter Liner (part number 61156112), and the Primary Filter
Element (part number 63990). Each of these elements plays
a significant role in the machines overall performance.
NOTE: When performance has declined noticeably, empty
tank and clean the filters accordingly.
The Tank Liner (figure 1, A)
The tank liner filters all the larger particles and a proportion of
the fine. It is made from synthetic linen that easily releases
trapped dust for effortless cleaning. After use, but before
removing from tank, tap or shake the liner surface to release
the dust.
It is installed over the top rim of the tank. Center the tank liner
with respect to the rim before installing the head.
The Filter Liner (figure 1, B)
The filter liner traps the fine particles that pass through the
tank filter. It should be removed and cleaned weekly under
normal use. It is secured over the primary filtering element
with an elestic band. When reinstalling, the elastic band
should pinch upon the base of the primary filtering element
and not the paper.
The Primary Filtering Element (figure 1, C)
The primary filtering element traps the fine and ultra fine
particles that have escaped the filter liner. Clean with a gentle
stream of compressed air annually. Direct the stream onto the
inner surfaces of the filter. Replace if it has become damaged,
wet, or if performance is not restored after cleaning.

INTRODUCTION AND INSTRUCTIONS, cont.
WARNING: Wood and varnish sanding dust could self
ignite and cause injury or damage. If these substances
have been picked up with this machine, empty immediately
after use, into a metal container.
Operation Switch
The operation switch is located on the control panel (see figure
2). To activate, turn the switch clockwise. See that the switch
is turned off before connecting or disconnecting the plug.
Removing or Securing the Head
The head is held to the tank by two clamps. Lift the clamps to
release it from the tank (see figure 3). Press in on the clamps
to secure it to the tank.
GROUNDING INSTRUCTIONS
This appliance must be grounded. If it should malfunction or
breakdown, grounding provides a path of least resistance for
electric current to reduce the risk of electric shock. This appli-
ance is equipped with a cord having an equipment-grounding
conductor and grounding plug. The plug must be plugged into
an appropriate outlet that is properly installed and grounded in
accordance with all local codes and ordinances.
WARNING: Improper connection of the equipment-
grounding conductor can result in a risk of electric
shock. Check with a qualified electrician or service
person if you are in doubt as to whether the outlet is
properly grounded. Do not modify the plug provided with
the product - if it will not fit the outlet, have a proper outlet
installed by a qualified
electrician.
This appliance is for use on a nominal 120-volt circuit and has a
ground plug that looks like the plug illustrated in figure 4. Make
sure that the appliance is connected to an outlet having the
same configuration as the plug. No adapter should be used
with this appliance.
WARNING: To prevent possible electric shock, protect the
machine from rain. Keep the machine in a dry building.
WARNING: To prevent possible electric shock, always use
a 3-wire electrical system connected to the electrical ground.
For maximum protection against electrical shock, use a
circuit that is protected by a ground fault circuit interrupter.
Consult your electrical contractor.
WARNING: Do not cut, remove or break the ground pin. If the
outlet does not fit the plug, consult your electrical contractor.
WARNING: Have worn, cut or damaged
cords replaced by an authorized service person.
EXTENSION CORDS
Use only an approved extension cord with three conductors, a
plug with three terminals, and a connector body with three
holes. The machine has a power cord with wire size 16 AWG
(AWG means American Wire Gauge).
WARNING: If you use an extension cord, use an extension
cord with minimum wire size 14 AWG. Do not use an
extension cord longer than 50 feet. Do not join two
extension cords.
