TransForm A12 completes Barco’s range of TransForm A display wall
controllers by a 12-slot OmniBus. The new system features Switch Fabric
technology for ultra high bandwidth capability, integrated in a compact
4U 19” rack mount chassis.

TransForm A12
Overview
A T
RANSFORM A12 system consists of one or more TRANSFORM A OMNIBUS A12 units, controlled
by a T
RANSFORM A Processor and populated with a set of TRANSFORM A expansion cards.
The new O
MNIBUS A12 extends and completes the TRANSFORM A product range. It provides an
economic and cost-effective solution for systems of up to 12 expansion cards, and with its
built-in Switch Fabric backplane it has the extra bandwidth reserves for the soon-to-come
input card for high-resolution/high-frame rate RGB-DVI-HDTV sources
Ultra high bandwidth Switch Fabric
Still, O
MNIBUS A18 with its advanced implementation of a bus-oriented backplane architecture
is well suited for many of today's and future system requirements. However it is also obvious
that the PCI66/64 bus of this device with its 533MByte/s can hardly keep up with the growing
demand for bandwidth in applications with multiple high definition inputs. Already in the first
half of 2006, when HD inputs will become available for T
RANSFORM A, depending on type and
number of input signals, O
MNIBUS A12 might become mandatory for such projects.
In opposite to the single, commonly shared connection between all input cards and output
cards of a bus architecture backplane like in O
MNIBUS A18, a Switch Fabric architecture
provides multiple, dynamically assigned private pathways between all cards. This enables
concurrency in operation.
Multiple data streams can be transferred in parallel at the same time. By this parallelism the
total bandwidth of the O
MNIBUS A12 is up to 3 times the bandwidth of the OMNIBUS A18, while
still using the same cards. Each O
MNIBUS A12 provides up to theoretically 1.6 GByte/s of
bandwidth (1.2 GByte/s real).
Compact and economic
The O
MNIBUS A12 is built into a compact
19-inch 4U rack mount chassis.
As with the O
MNIBUS A18 there are two
dedicated slots for the link interface card
and for the backplane CPU card.
These cards are located next to the 2+1
redundant power supply which serves the
high power requirement of the system
with 3 hot-swappable power modules.
