Periodically check the air inlet and outlet on both the indoor and outdoor unit for blockages.
If they are blocked, clear them.
If you plan to idle the unit for a long time.
1. Operate the fan for about half a day to dry the inside of the unit.
2. Stop the air conditioner and disconnect the power source. Remove the batteries from
the remote controller.
3. The outdoor unit requires periodic maintenance and cleanin
g. Do not attempt to do this
yourself. Please contact your dealer or servicer.
5. Install the air freshening filter back into position.
6. Insert the upper portion of air filter back into the unit taking care that the left and right edges
line up correctly and place filter into position.
Be sure your power supply meets the specifications on the nameplate.
An earth leakage circuit breaker or air-breaker shoul
d be installed in the power wiring system.
The capacity of the breaker should be 1.5 times of the maximum ampere rating of the unit.
To avoid electric shock, please ground the unit.
The air conditioner MUST be used on dedicated circuit.
If need be, use the power fuse or the circuit breaker specified in INSTALLA
TION MANUAL.
Never pull on any of the wiring . T
o change the wiring ,please call a professional electrician or
servicer.
If the supply cord is damaged, please call a professional electricia
n or servicer for repairs.
Please mount the unit in a stable location to avoid the noise or vibration.
Find a location for the outdoor unit where noise and hot air emitted by the unit will be of the
least inconvenience to your neighbour
s.
If the air conditioner sounds abnormal during oper
ation, contact the dealer where you
purchased the air conditioner.
If you move out or if it is desired to relocate the air conditioner, consult your dealer.

10. Heating operation
During the HEATING operation, the air
conditioner absorbs the heat outside the room and
brings it into the room. If the outdoor temperature drops too low
, the air temperature at the
indoor outlet will co
rrespondingly be reduced. A
decrease in outdoor temperatures will result
in a decrease in heat output.

Under the HEAT mode (including
heat under
AUTO mode), the indoor fan speed is automatic-
ally reduced or stopped to prevent a cold
draft and the DEF
./PRE-DEF light will be
on if the
set temperature has not been reached. Under the following three situations:

Outdoor temperature is

1. OPERATION indicator
This indicator flashes once every second after
power is on and illuminates when the air
conditioner is in operation.
2. ECONO. indicator
This indicator illuminates while the air
conditioner is in economic operation.
3. TIMER indicator
This indicator illuminates when TIMER is
set ON.
4. PRE-DEF indicator(cooling/heating only)
The air conditioner starts defrosting
automatically if outdoor unit frosts in heating
operation. At this time, PRE-DEF indicator
illuminates.
The indicator lights flash rapidly (five times per
second)when safety protection features come
into operation.

NONPROBLEMATIC OPERATIONS
The following occurences do not mean the unit is malfunctioning.
1. Non- operation
The unit does
not work immediately after
the ON/OFF button is pushed.
The OPERA
TION light indicating normal
performance is on. However
, there is a compressor
protection built into the unit which does not
allow the unit to
start until the pressures have
equalized within the system.
This is approximately
a 3 minute delay
.
In Heat/Cool units only
, both the OPERATION light and PRE-DEF light is on at
the same
time and the unit is in the HEATING mode. The low ambient temperature will activate the
WARM
AIR CONTROL.
2. A white mist of chilled air is generated from
the indoor unit
Cooling in a room
with a high relative humidity ,especially combined with
the presence of high
levels of dust or
oil, causes an unstable room temperature. This is due to a build up of dirt
or dust
in the indoor unit .The unit should be cleaned by a qualified
servicer as soon as
possible.
3. Noise
A
hissing sound can be heard
during the defrost cycle or immediately after the cycle stops.
This is due to a change in
refrigerant flow between the indoor and outdoor units.
Due to the extreme
temperature fluctuations during operation
causing expansion or contraction
of the plastic parts
within the indoor unit, you may hear an
occasional squeaking noise.
4. Dust is blown out of the indoor unit.
This will occur
after an extended period of non-operation.
5. Bad odor is
coming out from the indoor unit.
This is because the indoor unit gives
off the smell impregnated from the wall,
furniture, or
smoking.
6. Turning to FAN
ONLY
while COOLING
To defrost the coil, the unit will switch to FAN ONLY mode automatically from time to time.
As the
coil defrosts, the unit will return to COOLING mode.
When the set room
temperature is reached, the
compressor will shut off and the unit will switch
into the F
AN ONLY mode. The compressor will restart and cooling will begin again
when the
room temperature increases.

8. During high humidity
conditions( 85% relative humidity or greater), the surface of the indoor unit
may sweat.
9. Defrosting operation (Cooling/Heating type only)
If the outdoor unit
is frosted during heating
operation, the heating output will be reduced.
At
this point ,the sensor
will sense the frost built up and the
control will shut of
f the fans. Heating
will resume after defrosting is finished.

1. If the air conditioner is used outside of the above conditions, certain safety protection
features may come into operation and cause the unit to function abnormally.
2. Room relative humidity less than 80%. If the air conditioner operates in excess of this
figure, the surface of the air conditioner may attract condensation. Please set the vertical
air flow louver to its maximum angle (vertically to the floor), and set HIGH fan mode.

CAUTION:
TEMPORARY OPERATION
Temporary switch
This function is used to operate the unit temporarily in case you misplace the remote
controller or its batteries are exhausted.
Open the panel and lift it up to a position angle
where it remains fixed. It will stop with a clicking
sound. Do not force the panel up any further.
Turn the switch to AUTO position and the air
conditioner will run under AUTO mode.
Close the panel firmly to its original position.
Remote control function can't be used while the
Indoor unit is in AUTO operation.
If you want to use remote control function, please
press AUTO switch on Indoor Unit Control Panel
again.
COOL switch on the Control Panel is only used in
Test Operation.

TROUBLESHOOTING THE AIR CONDITIONER
If any of the following conditions occur, stop the air conditioner immediately, turn off the power
switch, and contact your dealer or servicer.
The indicator lights flash rapidly (five times per second). After disconnecting the
unit with the power source and after 3 minutes re-connecting to the power source,
the lights continue to flash.
The batteried in the remote controller
are exhausted.

CAUTION:
To avoid personal injury, do not attempt to change the power wiring or service
the unit yourself.

Please move the vertical lever to adjust the
air-flow direction as required manually.
When the unit is operating and the horizontal louvers
are in a set position, to adjust the airflow simply take
hold of the left or right lever on the horizontal louvers
and re-adjust the louvers as required.
Please use the remote controller to adjust horizontal louvers so as to adjust the vertical
air flow direction.
Lever
The opening controlled by the horizontal louver should not be too narrow as this will
affect both cooling and heating efficiency.
Do not manually adjust the vertical louver or it may malfunction during operation.
lf the louver malfunctions, turn the unit off immediately and unplug it for several minutes.
Unit should function normally when re-energized.
Do not operate the air conditioner for long periods with the airflow direction set downward
during the cooling or drying operation as this may result in condensation forming on the
surface of the vertical louver and water dripping into the room.
When the air conditioner restarts, the vertical louver may remain in a set position for a short
period of time. This is normal.
During the initial unit break-in period, you may experience some noise when the horizontal
louver is turning. This is normal.
Please read this Owner s Manual carefully before operating the unit and strictly follow the
suggested operation methods. Failure to do so may result in serious damage to the unit and could
also cause personal injury or property damage.
Check that the ground wire is not broken off and that it is well secured.
Check that the air filter is installed correctly.
After a long period of non-use,make sure that the air filter is checked and cleaned. Refer to the
CARE AND MAINTENANCE section for details.
Be sure that air inlet and air outlet of the indoor and outdoor units are not blocked.
The following should be noted to ensure an economical operation. (Refer to corresponding
chapter for details)
Adjust the airflow direction away from your body.
Adjust the thermostat to a comfortable temperature range. Do not over cool or over heat the room.

While in the cooling mode, close the curtains to avoid direct sunlight entering and warming the room.
To keep cool or warm air in the room, avoid the unnecessary opening of doors and windows.
Set the timer for the desired operating time.
Never put obstructions near the air outlet or the air inlet as it will cause lower efficiency and may
even cause the unit to cease functioning.
To ensure heating and cooling efficiency, please clean the air filter once every two weeks.
Do not attempt to install this unit yourself. This unit requires installation by qualified persons.
For proper performance, always operate the unit under the usable operating temperature and
humidity conditions indicated in this Owner s Manual. Operating the unit beyond these conditions
could cause malfunctions such as condensation dripping from the indoor section.
Always maintain the room temperature at a comfortable level especially if there are children, elderly
people, or infirm people in the room.
In rare cases, the unit may temporarily experience erratic behaviour due to factors such as lightning
storms, running automobiles , or mobile phone use.
In the case of an interruption of power, please cut off the power supply to the unit, wait a few minutes,
and connect with the power supply again.
Please keep all electrical switches out of the reach of children.
If you plan to be away for an extended period of time, please disconnect the unit with the power
supply.
To prevent accident, turn off the power or disconnect the power supply plug before beginning
any cleaning or other routine maintenance.
When cleaning the unit use a soft, dry cloth. Do not use liquid cleaners or aerosol cleaners as
these might mar the finish. NEVER SPRINKLE WATER ON THE UNIT AS THIS MAY RESULT IN
ELECTRICAL SHOCK.
Never put hands or objects into the air outlet of indoor and outdoor units. These units contain
a fan running at high speed. Touching the moving fan will cause serious injury.
To avoid injury, never touch the grille while the airflow louver is running.
Do not remove the fan cover from the outdoor unit.
To avoid the risk of serious electrical shock, never sprinkle or spill water or liquid on either the
indoor unit or the remote controller.
To avoid the risk of fire, please keep inflammables such as hairspray, spray lacquer and
gasoline away from the air conditioner.
NEVER SERVICE THE UNIT YOURSELF. In case of any malfunction of the unit such as abnormal
noises or sounds, abnormal smells, fog in the room, high temperatures, water dripping, etc.,please
turn off the power and contact your dealer or servicer.
Do not allow young children to operate this unit.

2.1 Please press the CANCEL button to cancel any former settings.
2.3 Push the TEMP button to cancel the TIMER ON setting. The
digital area will show "00".
2.6 After setting the TIMER there will be a one-half second delay before
the remote controller transmits the signals to the Air Conditioner.
Then after approximately another 2 seconds, the set temperature
will re-appear on the digital display.
3.1 Please press the CANCEL button to cancel any former settings.
3.2 Push the TIMER button and the remote controller will show the
last set time for START operation and the signal "h" will
be shown on the display panel. You are now ready to readjust
the TIMER ON to start the operation.
3.3 Push the TEMP button ( or ) to set the time you want to
start the operation.
3.4 Push the TIMER button and the remote controller will show
the last set time for STOP operation and the signal "h" will be
shown on the display panel. You are now ready to reset the
time of the STOP operation.
3.5 Push the TEMP button ( or ) to set the time you want to
stop the operation.
3.6 After setting the TIMER there will be a one-half second delay
before the remote controller transmits the signal to the Air
Conditioner. Then, after approximately another 2 seconds ,the
set temperature will re-appear on the digital display.
2.5 Push the TEMP button ( or ) to set the time you want to
stop the operation.
2.4 Push the TIMER button and the remote controller will show the last
set time for the STOP operation and the signal "h" will be shown
on the display panel. You are now ready to reset the time of the
STOP operation.
2.2 Push the TIMER button and the remote controller will show the
last set time for the START operation and the signal "h"
will be shown on the display panel. You are now ready to re-
adjust the TIMER OFF to stop the operation.
NOTE
1. Please reset the TIMER after cancelling the former time
settings.
2. The setting time is relative time. That is the time set is based on
the delay of the current time.

1. If the AUTO mode is not comfortable , you may manually override
the settings by using COOL, DRY, HEAT( HEAT PUMP units only),
or FAN ONLY modes.
2. Push the TEMP button to set the desired room temperature.
When in COOLING mode, the most comfortable settings are 21 C
or above. When in HEATING mode, the most comfortable settings
are 28 C or b elow.
3. Push the FAN SPEED to select the FAN mode of AUTO, HIGH,
MED or LOW.
4. Push the ON/OFF button. The operation lamp lights and the air
conditioner starts to operate per your settings. Push the ON/OFF
button again to stop this unit operation.
The FAN ONLY mode cannot be used to control the temperature. While
in this mode, only steps 1 3 and 4 may be performed.
COOL , HEAT, and FAN ONLY Operation
NOTE
Due to the difference of the set temperature of the unit and the
actual indoor temperature, the Air Conditioner when in DRY mode
will automatically operate many times without running the COOL
and FAN mode.
1. Push the MODE button to select DRY.
2. Push the TEMP button to set the desired temperature from
21 C to 2 8 C.
3. Push the ON/OFF button. The operation lamp lights and the air
conditioner starts to operate in the DRY mode. Push the ON/OFF
button again to stop this unit operation.
DRY OPERATION
NOTE
PUSH TIMER button to set the on and off times of the unit.
1.1 Please push the CANCEL button to cancel any former settings.
1.2 Push the TIMER button. The remote controller will show the
TIMER and the signal "h" is shown on the display panel. The
control is now ready to reset the TIMER ON to start the operation.
1.3 Push the TEMP button ( or ) to set desired unit START
time .
1.4 After setting the TIMER there will be a one-half second delay
before the remote controller transmits the signal to the Air
Conditioner. Then, after approximately another 2 seconds ,the
set temperature will re-appear on the digital display.
TIMER OPERATION
1. To set the STARTING time.
TEMP Button : Push the TEMP button to decrease the indoor
temperature setting or to adjust the TIMER in a counter-clockwise
direction.
MODE Select Button: Each time you push the button, a mode is
selected in a sequence that goes from AUTO COOL DRY
HEAT and FAN as the following figure indicates:
SWING Button: Push this switch button to change the louver
angle .
RESET Button: When the RESET button is pushed, all of the current
settings are cancelled and the control will return to the initial settings.
NOTE: HEAT only for Heat Pump

LOCK Button: Push this button to lock in all the current settings. To
release settings, push again.
CANCEL Button: Push this button to cancel the TIMER settings.
TIMER Button: This button is used to preset the time ON (start
to operate) and the time OFF (turn off the operation).
ON/OFF Button: Push this button to start the unit operation. Push
the button again to stop the unit operation.
FAN SPEED Button: This button is used for setting Fan Speed in
the sequence that goes from AUTO LOW MED to HIGH, then
back to Auto.
TEMP Button : Push the button to increase the indoor temperature
setting or to adjust the TIMER in a clockwise direction.
VENT Button : Push this button to set the ventilating mode. The
ventilating mode will operate in the following sequence :

Names and Functions of indicators on Remote Controller
TRANSMISSION Indicator: This indicator lights when remote
controller transmits signals to indoor unit.
MODE Display: Shows the current operation modes-- AUTO,
COOL, DRY and HEAT. HEAT only available for heat pump model.
HEAT PUMP ONLY - LOCK display is displayed by pushing the LOCK
button. Push the LOCK button again to clear display.
TIMER Display: This display area shows the settings of TIMER.
That is, if only the starting time of operation is set, it will display the
TIMER ON. If only the turning off time of operation is set, it will display
the TIMER OFF. If both operations are set, it will show TIMER ON OFF
which indicates you have chosen to set both the starting time and off
time.
FAN Display: When the FAN button is pushed, this signal indicator lights.
Digital Display Area: This area will show the temperature and, if in the
TIMER mode, will show the ON and OFF settings of the TIMER.
NOTE: All items are shown in the Fig.2 for the purpose of clear
presentation But during the actual operation only the re-
lative functional items are shown on the display panel.

Operating the Remote Controller
The Remote Controller uses two alkaline dry batteries(R03/Ir03X2).
When the Air Conditioner is ready for use, switch on the power
and the OPERATION indicator lamp on the display panel of the
indoor unit starts flashing.
1. Use the MODE select button to select AUTO.
2. Push the TEMP button to set the desired room temperature.
The most comfortable temperature settings are between 21 C
to 28 C.
3. Push the ON/OFF button to start the air conditioner. The OPE-
RATION lamp on the display panel of the indoor unit lights. The
operating mode of AUTO FAN SPEED is automatically set and
there are no indicators shown on the display panel of the remote
controller.
4. Push the ON/OFF button again to stop the unit operation.
1. To install batteries, slide back the cover of the battery compartment
and install the batteries according to the directions (+and -) shown
on the Remote Controller.
2. To replace the old batteries , use the same method as mentioned
above.
1. When replacing batteries, do not use old batteries or a different
type battery. This may cause the remote controller to
malfunction.
2. If you do not use the remote controller for several weeks
remove the batteries. Otherwise battery leakage may damage
the remote controller.
3. The average battery life under normal use is about 6 months.
4. Replace the batteries when there is no answering beep from the
indoor unit or if the Transmission Indicator light fails to appear.
1. In the AUTO mode, the air conditioner can logically choose
the mode of COOL, FAN, HEAT and DRY by sensing the dif-
ference between the actual ambient room temperature and
the set temperature on the remote controller..
2. If the AUTO mode is not comfortable for you , the desired mode
can be selected manually.
