TRAINING
Readthisowner'smanualcarefullyinitsentiretybeforeattemptingtoassemble
oroperatethis machine.Becompletelyfamiliarwiththe controlsandthe
properuseofthismachinebeforeoperatingit. Keepthismanualina safe
placeforfutureandregularreferenceandfororderingreplacementparts.
• Yourrotarymowerisaprecisionpieceofpowerequipment,nota plaything.
Therefore,exerciseextremecautionat alltimes.
• Neverallowchildrentooperatea powermower.Onlypersonswellacquainted
withtheserulesofsafeoperationshouldbeallowedto useyourmower,
• Nooneshouldoperatethisunitwhileintoxicatedorwhiletakingmedication
thatimpairsthesensesor reactions.
• Keeptheareaofoperationclearofallpersons,particularlysmallchildren
andpets.Stopmotorwhentheyareinthevicinityofyourmower.Although
theareaofoperationshouldbecompletelyclearedofforeignobjects,an
objectmayhavebeenoverlookedandcooldbeaecidentJythrownbythemower
inanydirectionandcauseseriouspersonalinjurytotheoperatororanyothers

PREPARATION
Thoroughlyinspectthe areawhere the equipmentis to be used. Remove
allstones,sticks,wire,bonesandotherforeignobjectswhichcouldbepicked
up and thrownby the mower in any directionand causeseriouspersonal
injuryto the operatoror any others allowedin the area.
• Alwayswearsafetyglassesoreyeshieldsduringoperagonorwhileperforming
an adjustmentor repair,to protecteyesfrom foreignobjectsthat may be
thrownfrom the machine in any direction.
• Dressproperly.Wearsturdy,rough-soledworkshoes.Neveroperatea unit
inberefeet,ssodalsor sneakers.Donotwearlooseclothingorjewelry.They
canbecaughtinmovingparts.Useofrubber gloves andfootwear is recom-
mendedwhen workingoutdoors.
• Neverattempttomake awheelorcuttingheightadjustmentwhilethe motor
is running.
• Mow only in daylightor in goodartificiallight.
• Never operatethe equipmentin the rainor in damp wet locations.Always
be sureof your footing. A slip and fall can causeserious personalinjury
Keepa firm holdon the handleand walk, neverrun. Do not over-reach--
keepfootingand balanceat all times.
• Warning--To preventelectricshockhazard,use onlywith anextensioncord
suitablefor outdooruse. UseonlyUL approvedoutdoorextensioncords of
adequate gauge(minimum16 gauge recommended)which acceptthe lawn
mower's plug.
• Cord sets--Make sure yourcord set is ingood condition When usingacord
set, besure to useoneheavyenough to carrythe currentyour lawn mower
wilt draw. For lengths less than 50 feet, No 16 AWG cord set should he
used. An undersizedcordwill causeadrop in line voltage resulting in loss
of powerand overheating.(NOTE:Tablebelow showsthe correctsizeto use
dependingon cord length andnameplateampere rating. If in doubt, use the
next heavier gauge. The smatter the gauge number the heavierthe cord.)

• Topreventdisconnectionofextensioncordfrommowerduringoperation,
besuretousethecordrestraintprovidedormakeaknotasshowninthe
illustrationbelow.

• Fuses--Themowershouldbeoperatedona 15or20AMPcircuit.Ifdifficul-
tyinstartingisexperiencedwithastandard15AMPfuseorcircuitbreaker,
contactyournearestauthorizedservicelocation.Donotusea higherrated
fusewithoutconsultingyourpowercompany.
• Foryoursafety,usetheslopegaugeincbdedaspartofthismanualtomeasure
slopesbeforeoperatingthisunitonaslopedorhillyarea.iftheslopeisgreater
than15° asshownontheslopegauge,donotoperatethisunitonthatarea
orseriousinjurycouldresult.
,_OPERATION
Avoid accidentalstarting. Do notpull plugged-in lawn mower withfinger on
switch. Be sure switch is off whenplugging in.
• Do notabuse cord--never pulllawn mower bycordoryankit to disconnect
from receptacle. Keep cord from heat, oil, and sharpedges.
• 0o not put handsor feet near or under rotating parts. Keepclear of the
discharge opening at all times as the rotating blade can causeinjury
• Stop themotor when you leavethe mowerand beforecrossinggraveldrives,
walks or roads.
• After striking a foreign object, shut oft the motor, makeabsolutely surethe
blade andall moving parts havecompletely stopped, disconnect the power
cord to prevent accidental starting, then thoroughly inspect the mower for
any damage.Such damagemust berepairedbefore restarting andoperating
the mower
• If theequipment should start tovibrate abnormally,stop themotor and check
immediately for _hecause Vibration is generally a warningof trouble
• Stop the motor, unplugthe power cord, andwait for the bladeandall
ing parts to stop before cleaning,uncloggingchute, removinggrasscare,
repairing or inspecting the mower. Thecutting bladecontinuesto rotate for
a few seconds after the motor is shut off
