Introduction
The SuperStack 3 Advanced RPS (3C16071, 3C16071A, or
3C16071B) provides redundant power to the products in the 3Com
SuperStack 3 family.
The optional Type 3 Power Module Advanced RPS Y cable
(3C16077) provides DC power from two Type 3 Power Modules to a
SuperStack 3 unit when full redundancy (resilience) is required. The
Y cable allows you to hot-swap a module while maintaining the
power supply to your SuperStack 3 unit.
For more general information and warranty details for these
products, please refer to SuperStack 3 Advanced RPS User Guide,

Connecting the Y Cable
The SuperStack 3 Advanced RPS and its modules can be
hot-connected to SuperStack 3 units, that is, you do not need to
remove power from the chassis or other units to connect the cables.
Before connecting the cable, check that the power demand of the
product does not exceed the capacity of the Type 3 Power Module
you are connecting. This information is given in the:
Type 3 Power Module Installation Guide (DUA1607-5AAA0X).
Advanced RPS Chassis User Guide (DUA1607-0AAA0X).
Product user guide.
If you are unable to find the information, or are unsure, please
contact your supplier.
To connect the Y cable (3C16077) to your SuperStack 3 unit:
1
Ensure the Type 3 Power Module is in the Advanced RPS chassis
before connecting or disconnecting the optional Y DC cable.
CAUTION:
An energy hazard may exist on the Type 3 Power Module
DC connector when the Module is in the Advanced RPS chassis.
2
Check that you are about to connect Type 3 Power Modules
(3C16075) with the Type 3 Y cable (3C16077).
3
Connect the male connector to the Redundant Power System socket
on the rear of the SuperStack 3 unit.
4
Connect one female connector to each of two Type 3 Power Module
outlets fitted into the rear of the Advanced RPS chassis.

Fault Diagnosis
The LEDs on the front of the Advanced RPS Chassis provide simple
at-a-glance fault diagnosis of the installed power modules.
If you suspect a problem:
Check that you have allowed at least 5 seconds for the power
module to warm up.
Check the status of the LEDs on the front panel of the chassis, as
described in the SuperStack 3 Advanced RPS User Guide,
part number DUA1607-0AAA0X.
Ensure the power module is correctly installed in the chassis.
Check the Advanced RPS cables are correctly engaged and
locked.
If you cannot rectify the fault, contact your supplier, giving the
following information:
Product model name, part number, and Power Module serial
number.
A brief description of the fault.
Your supplier will advise you on your next course of action.
