The TEAC DV-W50PUK is a modern high per-
formance DVD-R/RW drive. It offers reading
speeds of 12x for DVD-ROM media and 32x for
CD-ROM media. The maximum writing speed is
rated to 4x for DVD-Rs, to 2x for DVD-RWs, 16x
for CD-Rs and 8x for CD-RWs. DVD-Rs and
DVD-RW media allow to store up to 4.7GB.

The drive does not conform to Windows 95, Win-
dows 98 and MS-DOS.
Setting up the drive
Windows Me, Windows 2000 and Windows XP
operating systems have the native drivers for
USB controller and TEAC DV-W50PUK. There-
fore, when this drive is connected, Windows will
automatically install the appropriate driver and
the drive will be ready to be used. You do not
have to perform any special installation or
uninstallation.

Quick Installation Guide
However, it is required that the device driver be
installed from the CD provided with this product
when you use Windows 98 Second Edition (Win-
dows 98SE). Set the provided CD in one CD-
ROM drive (not in the USB drive) of your com-
puter.
Very important:
Do not connect the drive if your PC is in
sleep or in suspend mode. Prior to con-
nect the drive you have to set your PC
in the normal mode of operation.
(1) Turn on the power of the computer and wait
for the desktop screen to appear.
(2) Connect the DC output plug of the provided
AC adapter to the DC input connector of the
drive.

(3) Connect the other DC plug of the provided
AC adapter to an outlet. Set the power switch
of your USB drive to on.
(4) Connect the drive and the computer using
the provided USB cable. Insert the mini B
plug of the provided USB connector to the
USB connector at the back of the drive.

Insert the A plug of the USB connector to
the USB terminal of the computer.
(5) Locate the USB terminal of your computer.
Refer to the instruction manual of your com-
puter for its location. The following logo is
usually indicated near the USB terminal.
(6) There appear some messages on the screen
followed by the appearance of an CD-ROM
icon in the window My Computer. Now the
drive is ready to use.
Very important:
When you are using Windows 98SE and
the drive is connected for the first time,
it is required to read and install the de-
vice driver file from the provided CD.
Driver installation under Windows98SE
(1) Connect as described before the dedicated
AC adapter to the drive, then connect the
USB interface cable between the drive and
your computer.
(2) Add New Hardware Wizard starts automati-
cally.
(3) Ensure your driver CD is inserted correctly
into a CD-ROM drive and select “Search for
the best driver for your device (Recom-
mended)”. Click Next.
(4) When specifying the location to search the
driver, select “CD-ROM drive” or check
“Specify a location” and input the location of
the driver folder if you have saved them in
advance on your computer (The window
below is an example if the folder DVW50PU
in drive C: is specified). Click Next.
(5) If the driver was found (TTP300.INF for USB
2.0; TTPSL11R.INF for USB 1.1), click on
Next.
(6) After sucessfully finishing the installation the
hardware assistant is closed with Finish.
Important:
If an error message appears you may
move one step backwards or cancel the
process (using Cancel) and try it again
later. If installation of the driver fails you
will see in the device manager an excla-
mation mark (!) or a question mark (?).
Remove the driver and start the installa-
tion process again.
Disconnecting the drive
The drive can be disconnected from the PC if it
is not used any longer during the actual session.
It is of major importance to logoff the drive at the
PC before disconnecting it.
(1) Close the program that uses the drive.
(2) Confirm that the busy indicator of the drive
is off.
(3) Click the Remove icon on the Taskbar.
(4) Select the removing drive with the name
assigned to the drive.
(5) The Remove Hardware confirmation mes-
sage „Save to remove storage device“ ap-
pears. Click the OK button.
(6) Remove the plug of the USB cable from the
USB terminal of the computer.

Cleaning and maintenance of your
TEAC USB DVD-R/RW drive
TEAC drives will not need maintenance if used
as specified in this manual. Usually there are only
problems with dirty or defective CDs.
Important:
If liquid is allowed to poor into the drive,
it may cause a serious malfunction, an
electric shock or a fire. When cleaning
with liquid, be sure to remove the pro-
vided AC adapter from the wall outlet
after disconnecting the drive from your
computer.
Important:
Do not use cleaning CDs which will re-
move dirt of the lense of the laser aided
by a little brush. Do not clean the inner
parts of your TEAC DVD-R/RW drive
with compressed air. Any of these meth-
ods may cause damage to your TEAC
drive.
Handling
Check the CD before inserting it into the drive. It
should not have finger prints or other dirt on it.
Especially at high reading velocities dirt may in-
crease the number of reading errors.
Very important:
Shape CDs, a kind of CD which is not
shaped like the normal round CD, are
not allowed to be used in this drive. Oth-
erwise rotational forces may cause se-
vere damage to the drive.
Installing the Writer Software
As a general precaution the installation of the
hardware has to be carried out as described be-
fore. The software installation starts with activat-
ing the reading functionality of the drive as this
is well known with any conventional CD-ROM
drive.
If the reading functionality is available the next
installation step is to achieve the writing func-
tionality provided of the writer software. More
details according the installation of your writer
software you will find in its documention [Help].

Important:
Do not disconnect the power cord or the
USB cable which connects the PC and
the drive without carrying out the logoff
procedure. Otherwise this may lead to
loss of data and erroneous operation of
the PC.

Use Windows Media Player or audio CD play-
back software such as Microsoft CD Player for
playing back the audio CD using the drive. The
operation method differs depending on the soft-
ware and versions. Refer to the operation manual
of your computer or software for details.
