The xE910 Development Board can be split into several functional blocks depending on the
implemented function; the following drawing shows the main blocks on the board:

The motherboard factory setup is:
Serial port USIF 0 and USIF 1 on USB UART
DC source 12V only
Audio Available on MIC/EAR
DVI connected
Follow this sequence of commands to use the Development Board:
insert your SIM card
set properly all jumpers in the desired position
connect the antenna to RF connector
connect the audio accessories if required
Insert the module in the Socket (ensure to properly place the module in it following the
A1 pin reference as in the below picture).
Close the Socket
plug the 12V power supply into the +12V_IN
switch ON the power supply
connect the serial cable between your PC and UART (RS232 or USB MAIN)
push ON/OFF button for at least 5 seconds
Your module should now be operational and ready to receive AT Commands.

The following picture is showing the board section related to the Power supply:
The Development Board could be powered in two different ways:
12V DC using the provided Power supply
3.8V DC using the provided red/black cable
The requested setting is made inserting the proper jumper connectors in the right position as
described in the next paragraphs.
Be careful to the connections, even if every supply line is protected by a diode against
polarity reversing” and by a 0Ω resistor against “short circuiting”.
It is suggested to use the 12V input in order to use all the functions provided with this board.

There are 3 Jumpers on this section that could be used to configure it:
PL102
This Jumper could be used to select if the board is supplied by using the 12V to 3.8V
switching from SO101 or by the direct supply to VBATT (3.8V to TP103/TP104).
1) Power supply using the Switching 12V to 3.8V
Jumper between pin 2 and 3 (default setting)
2) Power supply using the 3.8V input for VBATT
Jumper between pin 1 and 2
PL103 and PL104
The two jumpers are normally always present and they could be removed
only in case of a need of Power consumption measurements.
The default setting for both jumpers is between Pin 1 and 2.
PL103 permits to insert a DC current meter (between pin 1 and 2).
The pin 1 and 3 of PL103 are connected together
PL104 permits to have a 10mohm resistor in series to VBATT to perform a precise
measurement of the voltage on the small resistor.
The default setting is Series Resistor present (Jumper between pin 1 and 2)
The other possible setting (Jumper between pin 2 and 3) permits to bypass the resistor.
For additional details on the Power consumption measurements please check the related
chapter.

This is the main power supply of the Development Board and it is the suggested method
to be used with this device.
You could use the provided 12V power supply plugging its connector to SO101.
As described above to use this Power supply input the PL201 Jumper has to be set
between pin 2 and 3.
The following picture is showing the mechanical dimensions of SO101 connector.
The following picture is showing the polarity of the Power supply connector

If you want to use your own 12V DC power supply, the minimum characteristics to be
supported are the following:
Characteristic
Value
Nominal dc output voltage
+12
Rating load current
minimum 1.25
Ripple
120 p-p
Rise time
less than 20
Output connector
dc plug type: 5.5*2.5*11
Polarity
Center “+”
There is the possibility to supply directly the module connecting a 3.8V power supply to
the TP103 (+) and TP104 (-) contacts.
In this case the Jumper PL102 has to be set between pin 1 and 2
NOTE:
Please ensure to use a supply voltage inside the limits of the accepted values for VBATT. Check
the module’s Hardware user guide for the supported values of VBATT
Exceeding the maximum supply levels could permanently damage the module and the interface.

It is possible to control the module’s ON_OFF and RESET lines using two buttons present
on the Development Board.
This button permits to power on and off the module.
Its behaviour and the related reaction time has to be checked on the product’s Hardware User
Guide.
When the RESET* button is used you perform an HW shutdown of the module.
When the device is reset, it stops any operation without doing any detach operation from the
network where it is registered and it doesn’t reboot after the release of the Reset button.
This behavior is not a regular shut down because any GSM device is requested to issue a
detach request at turning off.
For this reason the Reset pressing action must not be used to normally shutting down the
device, but only as an emergency exit in the rare case the device remains stuck waiting for
some network response.
It may only be used to reset a device already on that is not responding to any command.

The xE910 Development board is permitting to interface the module using all the supported
communication ports.
The UART section of the Development Board is shown in the following picture:
This section is related to interface the USIF0 (Main serial port of the module) and the USIF1
(Auxiliary serial port of the module).

Communications between your application and the Telit modules are allowed connecting the
DTE to the Asynchronous Serial Interfaces of Base-Band Chip, USIF0 and USIF1, through
the two standard RS232 communications ports (9 way D-socket connector at slow data rates
of RS232 protocol) or a standard Mini USB receptacle.
The selection between D-Socket and USB is done using the SW901 switch.

The Development Board is provided by a section that permit to force/show the status of the
Serial Port Lines. The following Image shows where the controls are located.
There is a set of LED that is showing the status of the Serial Port lines and a Switch
(SW901) that permits to force the Flow control Lines to a defined state:
The ON Position of the switches means signal set to LOW state.
