1. Safety notes & maintenance
Please read through this chapter carefully and follow all of the safety notes which are given. This will ensure that you
can operate your device reliably and that it will last for a long time.
Magnet
- PNDs from Falk may contain a magnet.
- Do not place near to magnetic data carriers (Notebooks) or cards (EC cards, credit cards etc.). They may be dam-
aged or rendered unusable on contact.
Operating environment
Outside influences:
- Do not place anything on top of the device and do not allow any objects to drop onto the device from above.
- Do not drop your device and do not shake it either.
- Ensure that you do not sit on the device if you place it in the back pocket of your trousers, etc.
- Do not keep or carry any inflammable liquids, gases or explosives in the same compartment as your device, its
parts or its accessories.
- Wireless devices could interfere with the reception of satellite signals and cause unstable signal reception.
GPS:
- GPS is operated and monitored under the sole responsibility of the government of the United States, which is also
responsible for ensuring the availability and accuracy of this system. FMI is therefore unable to accept responsibil-
ity for GPS availability and accuracy.
- GPS satellite signals do not go through solid materials (apart from glass). GPS positioning is therefore not
possible within a building.
- At least 4 GPS satellite signals are required to determine the current GPS position. Signal reception may be
impaired by bad weather or dense obstacles above the ground (e.g. trees and tall buildings).
Temperature:
- When you get out of your vehicle, do not leave your device lying on the dashboard where it might be exposed to
sunlight. If the battery overheats, this may result in malfunctions and/or dangerous situations. The device may
only be stored at temperatures of from -20°C - 60°C and be operated at temperatures of from -10°C - 45°C.
- Keep your device away from excessive moisture and extreme temperatures. The device should only be operated
and stored in an atmospheric humidity of 0% to 90%.
- Do not expose your device to sudden extreme temperature fluctuations. This might cause condensation to
collect in the device, which might result in damage to the device. When condensation forms, wait for the device
to completely dry out.
Notes on operation
- Never use the device while you are driving.
- Do not follow the display on the device for a lengthy period of time while you are driving.
- The national road traffic regulations always take precedence over the instructions given by the navigation
device.
- The route which is calculated should only act as a reference source. Users are responsible for following traffic
signs and local directions on the roads.
Power adapter (optional)
- Please only use an original Falk power adapter. Other types of power adapter may cause malfunctions and/or
severe damage and cancel FMI’s liability for consequences resulting from this.
- Do not use the power adapter in damp environments. Never touch the power adapter if your hands or feet
are wet.
- Ensure that there is sufficient ventilation around the power adapter if you are using it to operate the device or to
charge the battery. Do not cover the power adapter with paper or other objects which reduce the cooling effect.
Do not use the power adapter when it is in a carrier bag.
- Connect the power adapter to an appropriate power source. You can find the voltage requirements on the product
and/or the packaging.
23
EN
- Do not use the power adapter if its power cable is damaged.
- Never force a plug into a socket. If you are not able to push the plug into the socket easily, they are probably
not compatible.
- When you pull the plug out of the socket, you must pull on the plug and not on the cable. Ensure that you are
easily able to reach at least one end of the power cable, so that if necessary you can quickly disconnect
the device.
Battery
- Only use the original battery and the original car charger which is supplied with it. The original spare parts and
accessories which are approved by FMI are for your safety. If you use other parts, this may result in malfunctions
and/or severe damage and cancel FMI’s liability for the resulting consequences.
- This product works with a lithium-ion battery. Do not use it in a damp, wet and/or corrosive environment. You must
not place your product in or next to heat sources, at places which are subject to high temperatures or extreme
sunlight, in a microwave oven or an excess pressure container, store it or leave it there, and you must also not
expose it to any temperatures above 60°C (140°F). If you do not adhere to these guidelines, this may cause acid to
escape from the lithium ion, cause it to become hot, explode or catch fire and may cause injuries and/or damage.
You must not pierce, open or dismantle the battery. If the battery leaks and you come into contact with the liquids
which have leaked, thoroughly rinse the areas which have come into contact with water and consult a doctor
immediately. For safety reasons and in order to lengthen the lifetime of the battery, it will not charge at low
temperatures (below 0°C/32°F) or high temperatures (above 45°C/110°F).
Disposal
Disposal of used electrical and electronic devices (to be applied in the countries of the European Union
and other european countries with a separate recycling system for these devices)
The symbol on the product or its packaging indicates that this product should not be treated as normal
domestic waste but must instead be deposited at a collection point for recycling electrical and elec-
tronic devices. Material recycling helps to reduce consumption of raw materials. You can obtain further information
about recycling this product from your local authority, municipal waste disposal companies or the shop where you

Firmly attach the base of the mounting bracket and
push the locking lever away from yourself. This causes
the suction base to suck tight onto the surface below.
If you want to remove the base of the mounting brack-
et again, pull the locking lever towards yourself.
3. Initial start-up
On the following pages, you will be guided step by
step through the procedure you need to follow when
you fi rst set up your navigation product. Depending on
the product, the functions, product features or compo-
nents which are described may differ. For this reason,
it is pointed out that in every case the description on
the packaging takes precedence in specifying which
functions your product features.
Assembling the mounting bracket
Enclosed with your M-Series device is a mounting
bracket, consisting of a device shell and a mounting
bracket base. You can use the mounting bracket to
attach your device to the windscreen or the dashboard
in your car.
You must fi rst lock your device in place in the shell for
the device. To do this, place the device from above
onto the device shell, so that the recesses on the bot-
tom of the device marry up with the protuberances on
the mounting bracket for the device. There is a magnet
both in the holding shell and on the back of the device.
You should now press the entire back of the device
against the mounting bracket. When the device is in
the correct position, you will hear it lock in place.
The device can now be connected via the device shell
to the base of the mounting bracket. This is done via
the back of the device mounting bracket, which must
be locked into the square plate of the mounting brack-
et base.
Note: When you wish to remove the device again from
the device shell, you should grip the holding shell with
one hand. Pull the device up and forwards with your
other hand.
Attention: Do not remove the device by pulling it up
vertically.
Attaching the mounting bracket
Locate a fl at spot on the windscreen or dashboard
where you can attach the mounting bracket. You
should also clean the appropriate spot. You should not
t the bracket at temperatures of below +15°C.
Note:
Do not use on coverings for
the airbags.
Do not leave lying
unattached on the
dashboard.
Do not attach at a point
which might impair the
driver’s view.
Do not attach at a
point where airbags
may open.

EN
If the battery voltage drops below a minimum value,
the device switches off as continued use of the naviga-
tion device could damage the battery. In this situation,
the device cannot be switched on via the on/off switch
either. To be able to switch the device on again, you
need to charge it up with the aid of a car charger cable
or a separate power adapter.
Attaching the power charger cable
(optional)
Attach the power adapter to charge up the battery of
your device. To do this, you need to connect the thin
end of the power adapter to the input on the bottom
of the navigation device and plug the thick end into a
plug socket.
During the charging process, the battery charger in-
dicator glows red. When the battery is charged, the
indicator switches to white.
If your battery is fully discharged, it needs to be
charged up for at least a few minutes before you can
switch the device back on again.
Attaching the car charger cable
You attach the car charger cable by plugging the thin
end into the USB input on the bottom of the device
and the end which resembles a pistol into the input of
the cigarette lighter in your car.
In addition, you should pull on the lug located on the
suction cup to release the mounting bracket.
Switching the device on/off
The standard way to switch the device on and off is to
press the on/off switch , which is located on the top
of the device.
Please ensure that the device is charged up before-
hand or is being supplied with power at this moment.
7
6
7
To protect your device against voltage spikes, you
should only attach the car charger cable once the vehi-
cle has already been started up.
Charging up via the PC USB socket
Your navigation device can also be charged up via your
PC. To do this, connect it via the USB cable which is
also supplied to your PC (e.g. for data transfer) and
ensure that the main power switch is set to “On”.
Attaching the TMC dipole antenna -
receiving reports of traffi c jams
The M-Series products come with an internal TMC
module.
However, you are strongly urged to connect the TMC
dipole antenna for better reception of reports of traffi c
jams in areas with poor TMC coverage.
To do this, you need to insert the antenna cable into the
opening provided for it on the bottom of the device .
Then use the suction cups to attach the antenna cable
vertically on the windscreen. The cable should be as
taut as possible between the suction cups in order to
allow optimum reception.

All programs which are running will be interrupted here
and the navigation system will restart.
Memory card
A Mini- SD memory card allows you to store map data
(depending on the navigation device multimedia data
as well). These fi les can be detected and used by the
navigation device. For this to happen, you need to in-
sert an SD card with map data saved on it into the
memory card slot on the bottom of the device.
The data is only detected if a hard reset is performed
after the SD card has been inserted into the device.
Attention: Removing the SD memory card during navi-
gation, but also if the device is switched off, results in
the software crashing. A hard reset may therefore be
required even after the removal of the SD card.
Note: An SD memory card may be included with some
products.
Performing a hard reset
You may occasionally need to reset your device, for
example if your device stops responding. You should
then perform a hard reset. To do this, slide the on/off
switch on the bottom of the device to the OFF posi-
tion and then back to ON.

4. Operation of the
Falk Navigation
Software:
The navigation software incl. the associated map
material is preinstalled in the internal memory of the
navigation system and/or on an SD card which is
also supplied. You will again find this data (software,
maps, POIs, speakers) and, depending on the product,
further data as well on the enclosed Content + Falk
Navi-Manager CD.
You can find detailed manuals on the navigation soft-
ware on the enclosed “Falk Navi-Manager” CD/DVD.
To make the manuals available, you must install the
Navi-Manager (cf. Chapter 6). Under Start/Programs/
Falk you then have access to the manuals which are
supplied.
Starting the navigation device for the
first time
When the device starts up for the first time, it searches
for a satellite link, and it may take a few minutes for
the device to find your current position. It is important
here that you are in an open space and not inside an
enclosed building.
This period of time is only required when the device
is started up for the first time and is much quicker the
next time that the navigation software is started up.
Working with the menu of the
Falk Navigator
When you first switch on the device, you are automati-
cally directed to the main menu. The main menu con-
sists of several screens. You can scroll between these
screens with the aid of the blue arrow.
By tapping on the different buttons you can select
them, open submenus or display corresponding infor-
mation. You control the complete menu of the Falk
Navigator by touching the surface of the screen.
When you are on the map view screen (e.g. during
navigation), use your finger or a blunt object (e.g. stylus
pen) to tap on the map or on the button at the top left-
hand corner of the screen to get to the main menu.
Tap in the main menu on the Map button to switch to
the map view screen.
Using the keypad - text entry
As you operate your navigation device, you will repeat-
edly need to enter texts (e.g. place names, street
names, etc.) via the keypad. All characters, including
special characters and digits, can be used.
You get to the text entry screen by tapping the Desti-
nation entry button on the main menu and then the
Address button.
Touch the letter you want on the screen. This will be
selected and will appear in the entry field.

Tapping on “ABC” takes you back to the letter entry
block.
Once you have entered a few letters, you will also be
shown a selection of possible terms, e.g. towns or cit-
ies when entering a town/city, in the form of a list. At
the same time, letters which are no longer possible will
be blanked out on the keypad. The more letters you
enter, the more accurately the destination you desire
will be identified.
Note: If you have forgotten parts of the address of your
destination, you can also enter specifi c keywords (e.g.
“Gmü” for “Schwäbisch Gmünd”). You generally do not
need to enter the complete name of the town/city and/
or street.
You can scroll through the selection list using the arrow
keys. You select the entry you want by tapping on it.
By touching this button you can show and
hide the keypad. This changes the number of
entries displayed in the selection list.

5. Marco Polo Travel Guide
Your Falk navigation device is equipped with a mul-
timedia travel guide, the Marco Polo Travel Guide.
It allows you to discover romantic squares, cosy little
cafes, the finest delicatessens and everything else that
you want to see and really must see in a city.
The Marco Polo Travel Guide is of course based on
the established expertise of the Falk Marco Polo
Travel Guide editors. Our authors continuously seek
out Insider Tips especially for you, allowing you to
experience extraordinary things that not everybody
gets to see.
Stipulating a starting point
For compiling your personal travel guide, you can
stipulate a search centre of your choice which may be
your current location, the destination to which you are
travelling or any other city you wish to travel to.
Selecting a subject category
Marco Polo Travel Guide destinations are sorted by
subjects. Each subject is identified by a symbol. This
allows you to see at a glance which content can be
found behind a subject. Depending on which search
centre you have personally chosen, you will have a
choice of all available subject categories or just some
of the subject categories.
Subjects:
- Points of Interest, - Museums, - Food & Drink,
- Shopping, - Staying Overnight, - In the Evening,
- Exhibition Centres & Transport, - Art & Culture
Note: If no destinations exist for a subject category,
this category will not appear on the screen.
Top Highlights
If you select Top Highlights, the highlights from all
categories will be displayed in the selected region.
First select the Travel Guide button on the main menu,
stipulate your search centre in a further step and then
select the Top Highlights button.
Categories (e.g. Points of Interest)
First select the Travel Guide button on the main menu
and then select a subject, e.g. by tapping on the
Points of Interest button. A screen containing further
subcategories will appear.
Now you can either search for all destinations of inter-
est, select just the highlights for the subject or display
the Insider Tips from the Marco Polo editorial team.
Note: The distances in the POI list indicate the dis-
tance as the crow flies to the destination. The exact
distance to be covered will only be determined after
the route has been calculated.
When the list is displayed, you have the option of
changing the way the entries are sorted. To do this, tap
on the Sort button in the upper section of the screen.

Working with the Falk Navi-Manager
1. All of the available data is compiled in different
categories. The categories Country maps, POIs
(special destinations), Tours, Speakers and Soft-
ware are displayed in the upper section of the
mask in the form of tabs.
If you click on the tab you have selected, you will
be shown an overview of all the data in this cat-
egory in the form of a list.
6. Falk Navi-Manager
The Falk Navi-Manager gives you the option of ensur-
ing that the data on your Falk PND is right up to date
at all times and allows you to manage your data easily
and conveniently.
Installing the Falk Navi-Manager
Note: An important requirement for the Falk Navi-Man-
ager to work is that the Microsoft® ActiveSync® soft-
ware (alternatively Microsoft® MediaCenter® - part of
Windows Vista™) and Adobe Acrobat Reader are both
installed. These programs can also be installed via the
installation assistant.
1. Insert the Content + Falk Navi-Manager CD
into your CD drive. Note: To start installing the Falk
Navi-Manager, double-click on the “setup.exe” file
on the enclosed CD/DVD. Simply follow
the instructions given in the installation
program. Simply follow the instruc-
tions given in the installation program.
2. Connect your navigation device to your PC via the
USB cable.
3. You will then be asked by the program Active-
Sync® whether you would like to set up a partner-
ship. Select No and then click on Next.
4. To start the Falk Navi-Manager, click on the
Windows Start menu: Start/Programs/Falk/Navi-
Manager or instead on the Navi-Manager symbol
which was placed on your desktop with the instal-
lation. The Falk Navi-Manager mask then opens up.
5. To transfer content such as Maps, Speakers, etc.,
insert the Conent + Falk Navi-Manager CD/DVD en-
closed with your product into the drive of your PC.
6. The Falk Navi-Manager performs an automatic
update search each time you start it. This checks
whether there is any new content, new speed
camera data or new Premium GPS files (optional)
available to download. If this is the case, you can
select the updates you want and thus decide
whether the data should be downloaded from the
Internet.
Note: The requirement for the automatic update
search to work is a PC with Windows XP/ Vista™ and
an active Internet connection.
The menu bar Options/Settings allows you to define
whether the data found in the automatic update search
should be transferred to your device every time the
program starts up.

You have the option of planning tours on your PC and
then transferring these to your navigation device.
When the Falk Navi-Manager is open, you will find the
Service item on the menu bar. Select the Falk Route
Planner option.
Note: An active Internet connection is required to
make use of this function. Your navigation device
needs to be connected to your PC via a USB cable.
You will be directed directly to the Internet pages of
Falk. There the route planner gives you the option
of planning a route. Enter your start and destination
addresses and then click on Plan route. If you wish,
you can also create stop-off points for your tour. Then
you should calculate the route.
In the top menu bar, the button Transfer tour is
activated and the route is then calculated. The tour is
transferred to your device. An entry field now appears
in which you can enter a name for your tour.
You will find the tours which you have transferred to
the navigation device in the main menu of the Falk
Navigator under the menu item Tours. Select the tour
by tapping on it and then tap on the Calculate button.
You can now navigate your way through the tour you
have compiled.
Note: You also have the option in the Navi-Manager of
accessing predefined tours which have been prepared
by the editorial teams from Falk Marco Polo. You will
find these in the Navi-Manager under the Tours but-
ton.
Importing POI data
In the route planner at Falk.de or on Google Earth you
will find further POIs (Points of Interest). These can be
transferred to your navigation device.
You must first use the Navi-Manager to convert the
data, which exists in a kml format, to the Falk POI data
format. These POIs will then be handled immediately,
as will the POIs which are already preinstalled.
This will allow you in future to considerably expand the
range of POIs on your navigation device.
Please consult the Falk Navigator manual which is
supplied on the Content + Falk Navi-Manager CD for
further information about importing POIs.
