KaVo ERGOcom® 2
A 1 User information
A 1.1 Meaning of the pictograms
Situation which may lead to danger,
damage to material or operating faults
if the instructions are ignored.
Important information for operators
and engineers
A 1.2 Important information
KaVo ERGOcom 2 is a dental X-ray
viewer in a medical environment.
The operating and assembly instruc-
tions should be read before commis-
sioning by the user in order to avoid incor-
rect operation and other damage.
If further
language versions are required, please
request them from your KaVo dealer.
Duplication and distribution of the opera-
ting and assembly instructions / engineers'
instructions require prior consent from
KaVo. All technical data, information and
properties of the equipment described in
these instructions were compiled to the
best of our knowledge and correspond to
the situation on going to press.
The product may be modified as a result of
new technical developments. This does not
imply any right to upgrading of existing
units. KaVo assumes no responsibility for
damage arising through
external effects (poor quality of the media
or poor installation),
use of incorrect information,
use of the product contrary to the inten ded
purpose,
improper assembly, commissioning and
repairs.
The following are authorized to repair and
maintain KaVo products:
the engineers of the KaVo agencies
throughout the world,
the KaVo-trained engineers of the KaVo
dealers,
independent engineers who have been spe-
cially trained and authorized by KaVo.
The approvals will become null and void if
the product is modified by third parties.
A 1.3 Precondition for proper tech-
nical operation
Responsibility will be assumed for the
safety, reliability and performance of the
equipment if
assembly, extensions, readjustments, modi-
fications or repairs are carried out by per-
sons trained by KaVo and the assembly
was reported to KaVo by means of an
acceptance protocol,
the electrical installation of the relevant
room meets requirements and specificati-
ons according to VDE 0107 and VDE 100
and the equipment is operated in accordan-
ce with the operating instructions.
It is advisable to use only original KaVo
spare parts for operation and repair since
these were tested for their safety, function
and specific suitabilitiy in comprehensive
tests.
KaVo ERGOcom 2 has not been appro-
ved for operation in areas where there is a
risk of explosion.
Each time before using the product, the
user must ensure the operational safety and
the proper condition of the equipment.
It is not permitted to continue working
with damaged functional parts.
Legal provisions
The general guidelines relating to medical
products and/or national laws, national
regulations and the rules of the industry
should be applied to the KaVo product in
accordance with the prescribed purpose
and should be fulfilled before commissio-
ning and during operation.
Interference with electromedical
equipment by radio telephones
To ensure the operational safety of electro-
medical equipment, it is advisable to prohi-
bit the operation of mobile radio telepho-
nes in the area of the practice or clinic.
Cardiac pacemakers
When treating patients with implanted car-
diac pacemakers, it is possible that the
pacemaker function may be affected; plea-
se see the ongoing communications in the
technical journals.
Usually, the patient with the cardiac pace-
maker indicates at every treatment that he
has an electrical stimulator for his heart.
Presentation of the document with the
identification of the cardiac pacemaker
enables the competent dentist to estimate
the possible effect of his technical equip-
ment. Today, particularly in the case of
elderly patients, the question as to possible
implantation of a cardiac pacemaker should
also be asked when compiling the case
history, just as it is obligatory to inquire
about previous illnesses, tendency to blee-
ding, etc.

A 3 Cleaning, care, disinfection and
sterilization
Care of painted parts
Owing to the variety of medicaments and
chemicals used in the dental practice, dama-
ge may occur in the event of dripping onto
painted surfaces and onto plastics.
Investigations have shown that complete
surface protection from all materials on the
market is impossible.
Since damage to the surface caused by
these materials is very dependent on the
time of action, it is essential to clean the
affected areas immediately with a damp
cloth.
The following cleaning agents may
not be used:
Strongly alkaline washing liquids
Acids
Fluoride-containing cleaning agents
Ammonia-containing cleaning agents
Abrasive materials of any kind
A 3.1 ERGOcom 2
Switch off ERGOcom 2 at the main
switch 1 of the device.
Do not clean the front of the display with
glass cleaners, etc. while it is warm.
Clean the front of the display with commer-
cial glass cleaners at room temperature and
wipe dry with a soft cotton cloth.
The hygiene handles indicated with 2
can be unscrewed for cleaning. The
hygiene handle can be thermally disinfected
at 95°C or sterilized at 136 ± 2°C.

tion using the hygiene handle ”.
In the video mode (without active video
source), KaVo start screen appears on the
display.
If a PC is connected to the Multibox and the
display is switched to VGA operation, the
image of the PC appears (see A 7.3).
If an ERGOcam 3i (optional) is picked up
from the support, it is necessary to switch
the display to VIDEO mode in order to dis-
play a camera image (see A 7.3).
If neither a PC nor an external video source
is connected and an ERGOcam 3i/a has not
been picked up from the support, the KaVo
start screen remains visible on the display in
the video mode (no standby state).

A 4.3 Camera > display > multifunc-
tional foot control logic
The following camera/display sequences
can be implemented using the multifunctio-
nal foot control:
If the instrument is not picked up (1066
PRG. Version from 3.1), the live camera
image can be frozen by pressing the multi-
functional foot control. With other video
sources, an analogous procedure can be
used.
When the camera is replaced in the support,
the freeze-frame remains on the monitor.
When the camera is picked up or the multi-
functional foot control is operated again,
the system changes back to the live image
display.
By operating the multifunctional foot con-
trol for 3 1 sec, the freeze frame can be
saved by means of suitable software (see
KaVo Homepage www.kavo.de).
It is possible to change between freeze-
frame and PC image by switching to the
monitor control panel using functional con-
trol key A.
