Cardiac pacemakers
When treating patients with implanted car-
diac pacemakers, it is possible that the
pacemaker function may be affected; plea-
se see the ongoing communications in the
technical journals.
Usually, the patient with the cardiac pace-
maker indicates at every treatment that he
has an electrical stimulator for his heart.
Presentation of the document with the
identification of the cardiac pacemaker
enables the competent dentist to estimate
the possible effect of his technical equip-
ment. Today, particularly in the case of
elderly patients, the question as to possible
implantation of a cardiac pacemaker should
also be asked when compiling the case
history, just as it is obligatory to inquire
about previous illnesses, tendency to blee-
ding, etc.
