Our products are manufactured to comply with requirements of following directives and
national regulations implementing the directives:
Electromagnetic compatibility EMC 2004/108/EC.
Low voltage LVD 2006/95/EC with further amendment. The Directive applies to electrical
equipment designed for use with a voltage rating of between 50VAC and 1000VAC as well
as 75VDC and 1500VDC.

The device, as a part of professional CCTV system used for surveillance and control, is not designed

1. The installation of NV-DVR4508/DVD, NV-DVR4516/DVD should be done by a qualified service
person or a professional safety system installer.
2. Recorders mustn’t be placed in places where ventilating holes are partially or fully covered.
3. User’s interference inside the device is not allowed and is unnecessary as it does not have any
systems which require adjusting or which are suitable for self-repair. You mustn’t dismantle the
recorder or remove any single fastening screws. If any repairs are necessary contact the service.
The device must be taken care of and protected against any mechanical damage.
4. The recorder has to be protected against humidity and dust. In case the recorder had a contact with
water react immediately: switch off the power supply and contact the authorised Novus service. If
the device gets dirty it might get damaged or electrocute someone.
5. The device can be cleaned only with a damp cloth after the power supply has been switched off.
Avoid strong detergents (liquids and sprays). Mild detergents can be used if the recorder becomes
very dirty.
6. Power supply unit cords and signal cords should be laid in a way that eliminates the risk of
mechanical damage; special attention should be paid to the plug. Be careful not to overload sockets
and extension cords so that there is no fire.
7. To avoid recorder’s damage vision and control signals should be equipped with systems protecting
against disturbances, over voltage and atmospheric discharge that are in compliance with Polish
regulations. It is also advised to use ground loop isolators.
8. The device mustn’t be used in conditions which do not fulfil operating requirements as far as power
supply, relative humidity or air temperature are concerned.
9. You cannot allow any metal objects get inside the recorder. It might cause serious damage. If a
metal object gets inside the device contact the authorised Novus service immediately.
10. The manufacturer does not bear responsibility for damage or loss of data stored on HDDs or other
media occurred during the usage of the product.

2. STARTIG THE DEVICE
2.1. Getting the device ready to work
Please take extra caution when unpacking the device.
Please make sure that the following items are included in the package:
If any of this elements has been damaged during transport, pack all the elements back into the original
box and contact your supplier for further assistance.
WARIG!
It is not allowed to power on the equipment directly after it has been brought from a place with low
temperature. If the device has been brought from an area of lower temperature the user should wait
until the equipment warms up and reaches the room temperature. Caution: Before starting the device
read the input description on the back panel.

2.2. Electrical connection and other back panel elements

1. VIDEO IN/LOOP 8 or 16 video inputs, with looped outputs, to connect cameras.
2. VIDEO OUT output to connect main monitor
3. SPOT 1~4 outputs to connect up to 4 spot monitors. Each spot monitor can display full
screen image from one camera or from cameras in sequence
4. Cooling fan (DO NOT COVER!!!)
5. ARI (Alarm Reset Input): external input signal connected to ARI and GND sockets. The
signal voltage should be above 0,3V longer than 0,5s to deactivate alarm
output.
PANIC external input signal connected to PANIC and GND sockets. The signal
activates or deactivates alarm recording.
6. RS-485 RS-485 connector for PTZ camera control or system keyboards
7. Power supply socket 230V AC. Please make sure that the plug is inserted
correctly and cable is connected to a socket with a grounding pin. It is not
recommended to strongly bend the cable .

8. AUDIO IN 1/4 4 audio inputs (RCA connectors) for microphones.
OTE: Sound recording can only take place when legal regulations
of a given country allows it.
It is strongly recommended to connect microphones to recorder through
amplifiers. Recorder’s audio inputs aren’t equipped with amplifiers.
9. AUDIO OUT audio output for external speaker. Recorder’s audio output is not equipped
with amplifier, so please use speakers with amplifiers.
10. ALARM INPUTS alarm inputs, which can be set from the menu as normally open (N.O.) or
normally closed (N.C.), 16 or 8 according to a model. In order to detect the
signal it has to last at least 0.5 sec. The ground alarm device need to be
connected to one of the GND connectors.
11. ALARM OUTPUTS recorder can activate external devices such as: buzzer, lamp, siren...
12. USB USB socket to connect mouse or external memory.
13. VGA output to connect the main monitor in the VGA mode (computer mode).
You need to use signal cord provided with the monitor.
14. PORT RS-232 only for service
15. NETWORK RJ-45 connector to connect the device to a local network in the 10/100Mbs
standard.

2.3. Connecting External Devices
All installation procedures should be conducted by qualified personnel.
Before device installation and operation please analyze the scheme shown below. Depending on
specific user needs and requirements each system will consist of various number of external devices.
Monitors, cameras and other devices are not included and must be purchased separately. Detailed
devices connection description is included in following chapters of this manual.

2.4. Front Panel Description

NOTE: USB mouse or external system keyboard can be used to control the recorder. Detailed
information about USB mouse control can be found in full user’s manual in chapter 10.
1. ON/OFF BUTTON LED is lightning when supply power is on. After pressing the button
recorder starts. Pressing the button, when recorder is on, logs the
user out and shuts down the recorder.
2. USB PORTS USB ports to connect mouse or external memory for backup records
and firmware upgrade.
3. IR Remote control receiver.
4. POWER, RECORDING AND NETWORK LEDS
Red power LED is lightning when recorder is on.
Red recording LED is lightning when video is recorded.
Green network LED is blinking when recorder is connected to the
Ethernet network.
5. 1~16 (1~8) Displayed channel selection. When you press a button i m a g e
from a camera connected to this channel is displayed. Images are
displayed in full screen mode. Buttons are also used during
inserting password.

6. BUTTONS By pressing the buttons in playback mode changes playback
direction forward or backward .
In PTZ mode buttons are used to control image sharpness.
7. BUTTON In pla yback mode button pauses the video. Second pressing
starts playback again.
In PTZ mode button is used to save current camera position.
8. BUTTONS In playback mode buttons change playback speed.
Successive pressing one of the buttons increases playback speed
to: x2, x4, x8, x16, x32, x64.
In PTZ mode buttons are used to change focal length.
- Zoom in; -Zoom out.
9. JOG wheel JOG wheel, in playback mode, changes forward or backward display
speed to: x2, x4, x8, x16, x32, x64.
Centre part of the JOG wheel enable playback in image by image
mode.
Front panel buttons are highlighted in green.
All active buttons are highlighted. The number of active buttons depends on DVR operation mode (Live
view, playback, PTZ control).

10. BUTTON In live monitoring mode, button changes display
mode.
In PTZ mode, button displayes previous observation position
or pattern.
11. BUTTON In live monitoring mode, button starts sequential d i s p l a y
on the main monitor.
In PTZ mode, button displayes next observation position or

12. BUTTON In live monitoring mode, button starts alarm recording
mode.

15. BUTTON In live monitoring mode, button switches device into
PTZ mode. Successive button pressing switches devices i n t o
PTZ mode with presets, PTZ mode with patterns, PTZ camera
menu.
16. BUTTON In live monitoring mode, button opens search recordings
menu. Details about searching are described in the following
chapter of the manual.
In PTZ mode in PATTERN submenu, button opens
NOVUS CAMA menu.
17. BUTTON Exit button closes opened recorder menu window without
saving changes.
In PTZ or playback mode, button switches recorder into live
monitoring mode.
18. BUTTON button is used to confirm user’s choices.
In PTZ mode, button calls previously selected preset or
pattern.
19. BUTTON button is used to enter recorder menu. It is described in the
following chapters of the manual.
20. BUTTONS These Buttons are used to navigate the menu and to set menu
values. In PTZ mode, the buttons are used to move cameras.
In ZOOM mode, the buttons change observation area.

2.5. HDD Installation
DVRs NV-DVR4508 i NV-DVR4516 support up to 4 hard disks (after DVD-RW removal)
OTE: It is recommended to use Hitachi and Seagate disks
Maximum single disk capacity is 1TB SATA.
OTE: It is not recommended to use Samsung or Western Digital disks. OVUS
SECURITY Sp. z o.o. does not take any responsibility for problems caused by
using not recommended hard disks
OTE: If disk was previously used in other devices it is necessary to format the diskas all
data on that disk can be erased.
TURIG THE POWER O
Switching power button into O position starts the recorder. System loading may last about
30 seconds. It is strongly recommended not to initialize any function or press any button during
that time. Switching power button into OFF position turns the recorder off.

3. RECORDER’S MEU
NV-DVR4508 and NV-DVR4516 recorders have multilevel menus displayed on the screen.
The menu is multilingual and it can be displayed in English, German, Spanish, Polish or Russian.
The only difference between 8– and 16-channel versions is the amount of channels. There are 8 or 16
vision channels, alarm inputs etc.
Before using your DVR for the first time, you need to establish the initial settings. This includes items
such as time and date, display language, remote control, network etc.
Press the button to enter the menu. The Login screen appears:
Select user and enter the password by pressing the appropriate combination of channel number buttons
and then the button.
Default login: ADMI and password: 1234 when logging in for the first time.
To navigate the menu using arrow keys.
To confirm choices, enter submenus and edit fields use button .
To change values use arrow keys.
To exit the menu or close submenu window use button .
Sometimes it is necessary to enter the name or a title. When such field is chosen virtual keyboard
appears. To choose a letter use navigation buttons and confirmed your choice by button.
For capital letters use button. button deletes last letter entered.

4. RECORDER’S OPERATIO
4.1. Live monitoring
As soon as the DVR completes its initialization process, it will show live video on the attached monitor
and will play live audio through attached speakers. The default mode is to display all cameras at once
(16 or 8depending on the DVR model). Press one of the camera buttons to display this camera in full
screen. By pressing button you can change display formats .
Different display formats can be defined by administrator. In one display format single camera can be
displayed only once.
If images from 4 cameras are displayed simultaneously on the monitor, press or the button to
change displayed cameras according to the following scheme.
Press button to start cameras sequence display. Pressing single camera channel or button again
stops sequence display.
Sequence display is set in DISPLAY menu, SEQUENCE submenu.
To start sequence display on SPOT monitors set SPOT-OUT in the DVR DISPLAY menu.

4.2. Playing recorded video
Users whose group has playback right after logging in to search menu are able to play back recorded
images.
Press button to start menu.
After logging in, the search menu appears:
Using navigation keys user can choose search by time or search by event mode.
From search menu user can switch directly to archiving menu.
If search by time mode was chosen, next window appears:
