WARNINGS

It is most important that this instruction book should

be retained with the appliance for future reference.

Should the appliance be sold or transferred to another

owner, or should you move house and leave the

appliance, always ensure that the book is supplied

with the appliance in order that the new owner can be

acquainted with the functioning of the appliance and

the relevant warnings.

These warnings are provided in the interest of safety.

You must read them carefully before installing or

using the appliance.

This appliance is designed to be operated by

adults. Children should not be allowed to tamper

with the controls or play with the product.

“

Any electrical work required to install this

appliance should be carried out by a qualiﬁed

electrician or competent person.

“

This product should be serviced by an authorized

Service Centre, and only genuine spare parts

should be used.

“

It is dangerous to alter the speciﬁcations or

modify this product in any way.

“

Care must be taken to ensure that the appliance

does not stand on the electrical supply cable.

“

The domestic refrigerators and freezers are

designed to be used speciﬁcally for the storage of

edible foodstuffs only.

“

Frozen food must not be re-frozen once it has

been thawed out.

“

Manufacturers’ storage recommendations should

be strictly adhered to. Refer to relevant

instructions.

“

There are working parts in this product which

heat up. Always ensure that there is adequate

ventilation as a failure to do this will result in

component failure and possible food loss. See

installation instructions.

“

Parts which heat up should not be exposed.

Wherever possible the back of the product should

be against a wall.

“

Before any cleaning or maintenance work is

carried out, be sure to switch off and unplug the

appliance.

“

If the appliance has been transported

horizontally, it is possible that the oil contained in

the compressor ﬂows in the refrigerant circuit. It

is advisable to wait at least two hours before

connecting the appliance to allow the oil to ﬂow

back in the compressor.

“

The inner lining of the appliance consists of

channels through which the refrigerant passes. If

these should be punctured this would damage the

appliance beyond repair and cause food loss.

DO NOT USE SHARP INSTRUMENTS to

scrape off frost or ice. Frost may be removed by

using the scraper provided. Under no

circumstances should solid ice be forced off the

liner. Solid ice should be allowed to thaw when

defrosting the appliance. See defrost instructions.

Do not place carbonated or ﬁzzy drinks in the

freezer as it creates pressure on the container,

which may cause it to explode, resulting in

damage to the appliance.

“

This appliance is heavy. Care should be taken

when moving it.

“

Ice lollies can cause frost burns if consumed

straight from the appliance.

“

Under no circumstances should you attempt to

repair the appliance yourself.

Repairs carried out by inexperienced persons

may cause injury or more serious malfunctioning.

Refer to your local Service Centre, and always

insist on genuine spare parts.

“

This appliance does not contain gasses which could

damage the ozone layer, in either its refrigerant

circuit or insulation materials; it must nevertheless

be disposed of in a proper manner, in accordance

with regulations for protection of the environment.

INSTALLATION

If this refrigerator featuring magnetic door seals is to

replace an older appliance having a spring lock on the

door or lid, be sure to make that spring lock unusable

before you discard the old appliance.

This will prevent it from becoming a death-trap for a

child.

Location

The appliance should be installed well away from

sources of heat such as radiators, boilers, direct

sunlight etc.

Best performance is obtained with ambient

temperature between +18

C and +43

C (class T);

+18

C and +38

C (class ST); +16

C and +32

C (class

N); +10

C and +32

C (class SN).

The class of your appliance is shown on its rating

plate.

Make sure that there is nothing hindering air

circulation at the back, bottom, or top of the

appliance.

To achieve the best performance when the

appliance is set under a wall cabinet, the top of the

appliance should be at least 15 mm away from the

base of the wall cabinet (Fig. 1-A).

However, the appliance should ideally not be

installed underneath wall cabinets (as shown in

Fig. 1-B).

One or more adjustable feet mounted on the base of

the appliance make it possible to set it perfectly

level.

Electrical connection

Before plugging in, ensure that the voltage and

frequency shown on the serial number plate

correspond to your domestic power supply.

Voltage can vary by

6% of the rated voltage.

For operation with different voltages, a suitably

sized auto-transformer must be used.

The appliance must be earthed.

The power supply cable plug is provided with a

contact for this purpose.

If the domestic power supply socket is not earthed,

connect the appliance to a separate earth in

compliance with current regulations, consulting a

specialist technician.

The Manufacturer declines all responsibility if the

above safety precautions are not observed.

This appliance complies with EEC directive number

87/308 of 2/6/87 relative to radio interference

suppression.

This appliance complies with the following

E.E.C. Directives:

73/23 EEC

of 19.2.73 (Low Voltage Directive) and

subsequent modiﬁcations;

89/336 EEC

of 3.5.89 (Electromagnetic

Compatibility Directive) and subsequent

modiﬁcations.

Cleaning the appliance’s interior

Before using the appliance for the ﬁrst time, wash

all internal parts with lukewarm water and neutral

soap so as to remove the typical «new» smell and

then dry thoroughly.

Do not use detergents or abrasive powders as these

will damage the ﬁnish.

Door reversibility

Unplug the appliance from the power supply before

carrying out any work.

To reverse the doors, proceed as follows:

Remove the ventilation grille (D), which has a snap-

in ﬁtting.

Remove the bottom hinge (E) by unscrewing the

two ﬁxing screws.

Remove the bottom door by sliding it off the centre

hinge.

Remove the centre hinge (H).

Remove the top door by sliding it off the top pin (A).

Unscrew the top pin (A) and washer (B) from the

top hinge (C) and reﬁt them on the opposite side.

Reﬁt the top door.

Reﬁt the centre hinge on the opposite side.

Reﬁt the bottom door.

Reﬁt the bottom hinge (E) on the opposite side,

using the two screws previously removed.

With the help of a tool, remove the small cover (F),

which blanks off the slot for the bottom hinge, from

the ventilation grille (D).

Fit cover (G), supplied with the appliance, into the

slot left open.

Snap the ventilation grille (D) back into place.

Remove the screw cover on the handles, unscrew

the handles and reﬁt them on the opposite side.

The unused holes are blanked off with plastic plugs

which should be removed and reﬁtted into the holes

left open.

The doors can be aligned by adjusting both the

middle and top hinges.

The middle hinge (H) can be adjusted horizontally,

with the help of a tool, after having slackened the

two screws.

The top hinge is adjusted by slackening the nut (A)

with a 10 mm spanner and then proceeding as

shown in Fig. 3.

USE OF THE FREEZER

Temperature regulation

The freezer is marked with the -symbol,

which means that the compartment is suitable for

freezing fresh foods and for long-term storage of

frozen foods.

Turn knob (D) beyond position «

» until the index

coincides with the required setting. A medium

setting is generally the most suitable.

If the appliance is being used in abnormal conditions

– e.g poor ventilation, high or low room

temperature and/or frequent opening of the

appliance’s door – the setting must be adjusted

accordingly. In these cases knob (D) must be turned

to the higher settings to obtain a lower

temperature, or to the lower settings to obtain a

higher temperature.

Freezer operation can be halted by turning knob

(D) to position «

».

The refrigerator compartment will remain

operating.

Quick-freezing

Turn knob (E) to position «SUPER». The pilot light

(B) will then light up.

Warning light (C)

This light warns when the temperature inside the

freezer compartment has increased so much as to

jeopardize the preservation of food in the

compartment. When the appliance is switched on

for the ﬁrst time or when food is placed in the

compartment for freezing, this light remains on

until the temperature has reached the level

required for correct storage.

Freezing of fresh food

To quick-freeze foods when the appliance has not

been in use, switch on the freezer and let it run on

the quick-freeze setting for at least three hours

before putting the food to be frozen in the

compartment.

If instead the appliance is already in operation, it

should run on the quick-freeze setting for at least 24

hours before the foods are put in the freezer

compartment.

Once the foods have been placed in the freezer, the

freezing operation can be considered to be complete

24 hours later. Once freezing is complete, the

freezer should be reset for normal «storage» use.

Food to be frozen has to be placed in the top basket.

The maximum amount of food which is freezable in

24 hours is indicated on the rating plate. This is to

be found in the refrigerator compartment on the

bottom left-hand side.

To help you to get the best out of the freezing

process, here are a few hints:

Freeze only good-quality, fresh and well-cleaned

foods.

Split them into small portions to speed up freezing

and avoid having to thaw more food than you

require.

It is in fact important to remember that once the

foods have thawed out, they deteriorate fast.

Another point to remember is that lean foods keep

better and longer than fatty foods. Salt too reduces

storage time.

Wrap the foods in foil or polythene ﬁlm, ensuring

that the wrapping adheres closely to the food and is

well sealed. In this way, by avoiding contact with

air, the colour, ﬂavour and nutritional value of the

foods remain intact.

You should never freeze all at once a greater

quantity of foods than the maximum indicated on

the appliance’s rating plate.

During the freezing process, do not add further

foods for freezing and do not open the freezer door.

The foods for freezing should not be placed in

contact with already frozen foods, but put in the

special freezing basket. This will avoid a rise of

temperature of the already frozen foods.

Never put ﬁzzy drinks in the freezer as they might

burst.

In addition, never put hot foods or liquids in the

freezer compartment and take care not to ﬁll

recipients up to the brim if they are covered with a

lid.

It is a good idea to mark the packs – or the cards on

the sliding drawers if your model has them – with

the date on which freezing started so that you can

keep a check on storage periods.

If accidental thawing occurs – due to a power cut for

example – the foods must be used up very quickly or

else cooked immediately and refrozen. If, however,

the power failure is relatively brief (from 6 to 8

hours) and the freezer compartment is packed full,

the frozen foods will not suffer any damage.

A special card is located in the holder on the inner

door of the freezer compartment. On the upper part

it shows pictures of different types of food followed

by a ﬁgure. These ﬁgures indicate the maximum

storage time, in months, for each type of food.

Details of food being stored, can also be written in

pencil on the lower part of the card.

Storage of commercially frozen food

To get the best out of your freezer in case of storage

of commercially frozen food you should ensure that:

the products have been correctly stored by the

retailer;

that there is only a very short time between the

purchase moment of the products and the moment

of putting them into the freezer;

you do not store products for longer than the time

speciﬁed by the food manufacturer.

In addition, if the freezer has been out of use for

some time, before putting the products in the

compartment let the freezer run for at least two

hours on the quick-freeze (SUPER) setting. After

this, reset the freezer for normal storage use.

Avoid opening the door too often and when you do

open it, leave it open only for as long as is strictly

necessary.

A word of warning about ice lollies: they should not

be eaten straight from the freezer as this might

cause cold burns.

If there happens to be a power failure do not open

the freezer door. If the freezer is completely full,

frozen products will not be affected. Otherwise they

should be used up very quickly.

Thawing

Before being used, deep-frozen and frozen food can

be thawed out either in the refrigerator

compartment or at room temperature, depending

on the time available for this operation.

Small pieces of food – such as hamburgers, cutlets,

chips, and ﬁsh ﬁngers, for example – can be cooked

straight from the freezer, without any intermediate

thawing operation. Clearly, cooking time will be

marginally longer than in the case of thawed food.

Ice cubes trays

The refrigerator is provided with one or more ice

cubes trays.

These trays should be ﬁlled with drinking water and

then be placed into the freezer compartment.

Do not use metal tools to remove the trays when

they are stuck-frozen inside the compartment.

USE OF THE REFRIGERATOR

Temperature regulation

Turn the thermostat knob to a medium setting.

However, the exact setting should be chosen

keeping in mind that the temperature inside the

refrigerator depends on:

room temperature;

how often the door is opened;

the quantity of food stored in the refrigerator;

location of appliance.

As in the case of the freezer, it might be necessary

to turn the knob to higher settings to obtain a lower

refrigeration temperature or, vice versa, to lower

settings to increase the refrigeration temperature.

When the refrigerator is set for the coldest

temperatures, with a high surrounding room

temperature, it will probably be in constant use,

with consequent frosting of the back wall of the

compartment. If this does in fact occur, the knob

should be set to a slightly higher temperature.

In this way the refrigerator automatically defrosts,

with a considerable energy saving.

To stop operation, simply turn the thermostat knob

to position «

». The freezer compartment will

remain operating.

Storage of foods in the refrigerator

compartment

To achieve the best results with the refrigerator

compartment, you should follow one or two very

simple rules:

Do not put warm foods or evaporating liquids in the

refrigerator.

Cover or wrap foods (particularly if they have a

strong smell or contain aromatic herbs).

Do not cover the shelves (grids) with paper or

plastic since this blocks the air circulation in the

compartment.

In addition, foods should be positioned inside the

refrigerator compartment as indicated in Figure 6:

Cold cuts, cheese, butter, milk

Meat and ﬁsh

Fruit and vegetables.

In this position, fresh meat can be stored for 1-2 days

at most.

Further hints for getting the best out of your

refrigerator are the following:

Cooked foods, cold dishes, jellies, etc.,

should be well

covered.

Fruit and vegetables

should be washed before being

stored.

Raw meat

(all types, including poultry) should be

stored in plastic bags.

(Fig. 8-9)

To permit storage of food packages of various sizes,

the door shelves can be adjusted in height.

To make these adjustments proceed as follows:

Gradually pull the shelf in the direction of the

arrows until it comes free, then reposition as

required (Fig. 8).

For more thorough cleaning, the top door shelf can

be removed by pulling it in the direction of the

arrows, then reﬁtting it in position (Fig. 9).

Defrosting

Refrigerator compartment

Frost is automatically eliminated from the

evaporator of the refrigerator compartment every

time the motor-driver compressor stops.

The defrost water drains out through a trough (see

Fig. 10) into a special container provided on top of

the compressor which is located at the back of the

appliance.

We particularly recommend that you periodically

clean the defrost-water drainage outlet, located in the

centre of the drainage groove in the refrigerator

compartment (see Fig. 10) to prevent the defrost

water from overﬂowing onto foods stored in the

compartment.

Use the special cleaner provided, which you will ﬁnd

already inserted in the discharge hole.

Freezer compartment

In the freezer compartment , instead, the

frost should be removed with the provided special

plastic scraper whenever the thickness exceeds 4

mm.

During this operation it is not necessary to switch

off the power or to remove the foods from the

compartment.

Do not use metal tools to remove frost in order to

avoid seriously damaging the appliance.

If a thick layer of ice is formed it will be necessary

to carry out complete defrosting as following:

set the knob (D) to «

» or unplug the appliance

from the mains socket;

wrap frozen food in several layers of newspaper and

place the food packages in a cool place.

Leave the door open. Introduce the plastic scraper

in the appropriate seating as shown in the ﬁgure 11,

place underneath a basin to collect the defrost

water.

When defrosting is completed, dry the interior

thoroughly.

Keep the scraper for future use.

Turn the thermostat knob (D) to the desired

position or replace the plug in the socket.

After having run for two or three hours on the

quick-freeze setting, the appliance is ready again

for storing or freezing food.

MAINTENANCE

Periodical cleaning

Before carrying out any maintenance operation,

always disconnect the plug from the wall socket.

Wash the interior of the appliance with lukewarm

water and sodium bicarbonate.

Clean the cabinet with a silicone-wax spray. The

condenser and compressor should be cleaned using

a brush or a vacuum cleaner. This latter operation

will maintain the appliance’s excellent standards of

performance and save energy.

Idle periods

During periods when the appliance is not used, you

should take the following precautions:

remove the plug from the wall socket;

remove all food from the appliance;

defrost and clean the interior and all accessories;

leave the door slightly open, thus letting air

circulate and preventing the formation of mould and

unpleasant smells.

Interior light bulb

(Fig. 12)

The light inside the refrigerator compartment is

easily accessible. All you have to do is to remove the

lamp from the ﬁtting itself. If the light does not go

on when the door is open, check that it is screwed in

properly.

If it still does not light up, change the bulb.

The rating is shown on the light bulb cover.

SOMETHING NOT WORKING

If the appliance is not functioning properly check

that:

the plug is ﬁrmly inserted into the wall socket and

that the mains power switch is on;

electricity is delivered, and controls are set to the

correct position.

Furthermore:

if the appliance seems too noisy, check that the sides

of the cabinet are not touching furniture that can

transmit noise or vibrations and that the

refrigerating circuit tubes are not vibrating;

if there are signs of presence of water on the bottom

of the refrigerator compartment, check that the

defrost water drain opening is not obstructed.

If your appliance is still not working properly after

making the above checks, contact your local dealer

or the nearest service center.

To obtain fast service, it is essential that when you

apply for it you specify the model & serial number

of your appliance, which can be found on the rating

plate located inside the appliance at the bottom on

the left hand side.
