4. Installation (follow steps below in the order they appear)
Determine location and measure
Determine the width of your floating shelf (should be 24”, 36” or 48”).
With a pencil, mark lightly on the wall where the edges of the shelf will be. (see image below)
TOP: Mark on the wall where the top edge of your shelf will be.
LEFT: Mark on the wall where the left edge of your shelf will be.
RIGHT: Starting from the left edge mark made in the previous step, measure and mark
where the right edge of your shelf will be. Measure twice to ensure the distance
between left and right marks is equal to the width of your shelf.
With a pencil, mark where the drywall anchors will be installed in the wall. (see image below)
Make marks 6” in from the left and right edge marks and ¾” below the top mark’.
(these marks will determine the location of drywall anchors)
Use a tape measure to ensure both wall marks are at the same height (or a level to
ensure both wall marks are level). At this point, the edge marks are no longer necessary
and may be erased.
Install the drywall anchors and mounting screws in the wall
With a drill and ¼” bit, pre-drill a small hole in the marks where drywall anchors will be located.
Push the sharp end of the drywall anchors into the holes in the wall until the threading is just
touching the surface of the wall.
With a Philips screwdriver, drive in the drywall anchors until they are flush with the surface of
the wall. (do NOT over tighten)
With a Phillips screwdriver, drive screws into the drywall anchors. Do not drive screws
completely into the anchors. Leave approximately 1/8” of each screw exposed to hang shelf on.
Mount the floating shelf to the wall (final step)
Position the shelf so that the smaller opening in each keyhole bracket (on back side of shelf) is
above the larger opening. (see image below)
Align the keyholes with the exposed screws and carefully push the shelf into place, allowing both
screws to land inside the keyhole brackets. The screws should first enter the larger (lower)
keyhole openings, and then slide into the smaller openings as the shelf drops down.
INSTALLATION TIPS:
Lightly pressing down or tapping on top of the shelf may be helpful to ensure it is fully
secured on the exposed screws.
Slightly adjusting the screw depth in/out of the drywall anchors may be helpful if you
are having difficulty pushing the shelf into place.
