The wire which is coloured GREEN-AND-YELLOW must be connected to the terminal in the plug which is marked by the

letter E or by the safety earth symbol or coloured GREEN or GREEN-AND-YELLOW.

The wire which is coloured BLUE must be connected to the terminal which is marked with the letter N or coloured BLACK.

The wire which is coloured BROWN must be connected to the terminal which is marked with the letter L or coloured RED.

• Immediately turn the power off, remove the power cord

from the outlet, and request servicing by your retailer,

the nearest Roland Service Center, or an authorized

Roland distributor, as listed on the “Information” page

when:

• The power-supply cord or the plug has been

damaged; or

• If smoke or unusual odor occurs

• Objects have fallen into, or liquid has been

spilled onto the unit; or

• The unit has been exposed to rain (or otherwise

has become wet); or

• The unit does not appear to operate normally

or exhibits a marked change in performance.

provide supervision until the child is capable of

following all the rules essential for the safe operation of

especially careful when using extension cords—the total

loads can cause the insulation on the cord to heat up and

eventually melt through.

INSTRUCTIONS” and “USING THE UNIT SAFELY” on

pages 6 and 7, please read and observe the following:

Power Supply

• Do not connect this unit to same electrical outlet that is being used

by an electrical appliance that is controlled by an inverter (such as a

refrigerator, washing machine, microwave oven, or air condi-

tioner), or that contains a motor. Depending on the way in which

the electrical appliance is used, power supply noise may cause this

unit to malfunction or may produce audible noise. If it is not

practical to use a separate electrical outlet, connect a power supply

noise filter between this unit and the electrical outlet.

• Before connecting this unit to other devices, turn off the power to

all units. This will help prevent malfunctions and/or damage to

speakers or other devices.

• Although the LCD and LEDs are switched off when the POWER

switch is switched off, this does not mean that the unit has been

completely disconnected from the source of power. If you need to

turn off the power completely, first turn off the POWER switch,

then unplug the power cord from the power outlet. For this reason,

the outlet into which you choose to connect the power cord’s plug

should be one that is within easy reach and readily accessible.

Placement

• Using the unit near power amplifiers (or other equipment

containing large power transformers) may induce hum. To alleviate

the problem, change the orientation of this unit; or move it farther

away from the source of interference.

• This device may interfere with radio and television reception. Do

not use this device in the vicinity of such receivers.

• Noise may be produced if wireless communications devices, such

as cell phones, are operated in the vicinity of this unit. Such noise

could occur when receiving or initiating a call, or while conversing.

Should you experience such problems, you should relocate such

wireless devices so they are at a greater distance from this unit, or

switch them off.

• Do not expose the unit to direct sunlight, place it near devices that

radiate heat, leave it inside an enclosed vehicle, or otherwise subject

it to temperature extremes. Excessive heat can deform or discolor

the unit.

• When moved from one location to another where the temperature

and/or humidity is very different, water droplets (condensation)

may form inside the unit. Damage or malfunction may result if you

attempt to use the unit in this condition. Therefore, before using the

unit, you must allow it to stand for several hours, until the conden-

sation has completely evaporated.

• Depending on the material and temperature of the surface on

which you place the unit, its rubber feet may discolor or mar the

surface.

You can place a piece of felt or cloth under the rubber feet to

prevent this from happening. If you do so, please make sure that

the unit will not slip or move accidentally.

Maintenance

• Never use benzine, thinners, alcohol or solvents of any kind, to

avoid the possibility of discoloration and/or deformation.

• For everyday cleaning wipe the unit with a soft, dry cloth or one that

has been slightly dampened with water. To remove stubborn dirt,

use a cloth impregnated with a mild, non-abrasive detergent. After-

wards, be sure to wipe the unit thoroughly with a soft, dry cloth.

Repairs and Data

• Please be aware that all data contained in the unit’s memory may

be lost when the unit is sent for repairs. Important data should

always be backed up Removable Hard Disk Unit, or written down

on paper (when possible). During repairs, due care is taken to avoid

the loss of data. However, in certain cases (such as when circuitry

related to memory itself is out of order), we regret that it may not

be possible to restore the data, and Roland assumes no liability

concerning such loss of data.

Memory Backup

• This unit contains a battery which powers the unit’s memory circuits

while the main power is off. To avoid the unexpected loss of data in

memory, have this battery replaced with a new one every 5 years.

Please be aware that the actual life of the battery can vary depending

on how the unit is used. When it is time to change the battery,

consult with your retailer, the nearest Roland Service Center, or an

authorized Roland distributor, as listed on the “Information” page.

Additional Precautions

• Please be aware that the contents of hard disk drive can be

irretrievably lost as a result of a malfunction, or the improper

operation of the unit. To protect yourself against the risk of loosing

important data, we recommend that you periodically save a backup

copy of important data you have stored in the Removable Hard Disk

Drive Unit.

• Unfortunately, it may be impossible to restore the contents of data

that was stored Removable Hard Disk Drive Unit once it has been

lost. Roland Corporation assumes no liability concerning such loss

of data.

• Use a reasonable amount of care when using the unit’s buttons,

sliders, or other controls; and when using its jacks and connectors.

Rough handling can lead to malfunctions.

• When connecting / disconnecting all cables, grasp the connector

itself—never pull on the cable. This way you will avoid causing

shorts, or damage to the cable’s internal elements.

• A small amount of heat will radiate from the unit during normal

operation.

• To avoid disturbing your neighbors, try to keep the unit’s volume

at reasonable levels. You may prefer to use headphones, so you do

not need to be concerned about those around you (especially when

it is late at night).

(including padding) that it came in, if possible. Otherwise, you will

need to use equivalent packaging materials.

Class A

• This product is a commercial device, and is a class A device that can

be used only in a commercial/industrial area. It may not be used in

a residential environment.

• If this product is used while connected with class B compliant

devices that may be used in a residential environment, the entire

system is considered to be a class A device, and may not be used in

a residential environment.

• Carefully insert the Removable Hard Disk Drive Unit all the way

in—until it is firmly in place.

• Never touch the terminals of the Removable Hard Disk Drive Unit.

Also, avoid getting the terminals dirty.

• Removable Hard Disk Drive are constructed using precision

components; handle the cards carefully, paying particular note to

the following.

• To prevent damage to the cards from static electricity, be

sure to discharge any static

electricity from your own body

before handling the units.

• Do not touch or allow metal to

come into contact with the

contact portion of the units.

• Do not drop, or subject units to

strong shock or vibration.

• Do not keep units in direct sunlight, in closed vehicles,

or other such locations (storage temperature: 0 to 50˚ C).

• Do not allow units to become wet.

• Do not disassemble or modify the units.

Handling Hard Disk Drives

Important Performance and Image Data

• Once a hard disk drive fails to function normally, all data that has

been stored on it could be destroyed.

All hard disk drives eventually wear out.

We recommend that

you consider the hard disk drive not as a permanent storage site,

but as a place to store data temporarily. We also recommend that

you back up important performance and image data that cannot be

recorded again onto the external media that is supported by your

device. For instructions on how to make such backups, refer to the

owner’s manual for your device.

Note that Roland assumes no liability whatsoever, including

monetary compensation, for the loss of any recorded content in the

event of the malfunction of, or physical damage to the hard disk, or

for any direct or incidental damages resulting from the loss of such

data.

Precautions Regarding Setup and Use

• Certain hard disk drive setup procedures and usage conditions

may result in the corruption of recorded data, malfunctioning, or

physical damage to the disk, so be sure to observe the following

precautions.

• Do not subject the hard disk drive to vibration or shock,

especially while the unit is in operation.

• Do not set up the unit in any location where it may be

affected by vibration from external sources, or on any

surface that is not stable and level.

• If the device includes a cooling fan, ensure that the fan

and the side panel air vents remain unobstructed.

• Do not leave the unit in any environment subject to

temperature extremes; for example, in a closed

automobile in summer or outdoors during winter.

• Do not use the unit in conditions of high temperature

and humidity or in any location subject to rapid temper-

ature changes.

• Do not unplug the power cord or switch off any circuit

breakers in the circuit to which the unit is connected

while the power is turned on.

• Do not move the unit while the power is turned on or

immediately after turning off the power. When trans-

porting the unit, first turn off the power and confirm that

the display screen has gone off, disconnect the power

plug, then wait at least two minutes before moving the

device.

Emergency Procedures

* The following procedures are to be used as emergency

measures only, and are not recommended for normal

operation.

• If the device fails to respond to operational commands or does not

complete operations, turn off the power. If the power does not shut

off following normal shutdown procedures, disconnect the power

plug.

If the unit does not operate normally when the power is turned on

again, it may mean that the hard disk has been damaged. In such

instances, consult your dealer or the nearest Roland Service Center.

Note, however, that it may not be possible to recover any data from

the hard disk drive once it has been lost.

If your device features drive check capabilities, use the drive check

function to regularly confirm that there are no problems, even

when the device is operating normally.

For more detailed information on the shutdown and drive check

procedures, refer to the Owner’s Manual.

• Supplements,

• Internet-based services, and

• Support services

for this software, unless other terms accompany those items. If so, those terms

apply. If you obtain updates or supplements directly from Microsoft, then

Microsoft, and not Roland SG Corporation, licenses those to you.

As described below, using some features also operates as your consent to

the transmission of certain standard computer information for Internet-

based services.

By using the software, you accept these terms. If you do not accept them,

do not use or copy the software. Instead, contact Roland SG Corporation to

determine its return policy for a refund or credit.

If you comply with these license terms, you have the rights below.

1. Use Rights.

You may use the software on the device with which you acquired the software.

2. Additional Licensing Requirements and/or Use Rights.

a.Specific Use. Roland SG Corporation designed this device for a specific use.

You may only use the software for that use.

b.Other Software. You may use other programs with the software as long as

the other programs

• Directly support the manufacturer's speciﬁc use for the

device, or

• Provide system utilities, resource management, or anti-

virus or similar protection.

c.Software that provides consumer or business tasks or processes may not be

run on the device. This includes email, word processing, spreadsheet,

database, scheduling and personal finance software. The device may use

terminal services protocols to access such software running on a server.

d.Device Connections.

• You may use terminal services protocols to connect the

device to another device running business task or pro-

cesses software such as email, word processing, schedul-

ing or spreadsheets.

• You may allow up to ten other devices to access the soft-

ware to use

• File Services,

• Print Services,

• Internet Information Services, and

• Internet Connection Sharing and Telephony Services.

The ten connection limit applies to devices that access the software indirectly

through "multiplexing" or other software or hardware that pools connections.

You may use unlimited inbound connections at any time via TCP/IP.

Scope of License.

The software is licensed, not sold. This agreement only

gives you some rights to use the software. Roland SG Corporation and

Microsoft reserve all other rights. Unless applicable law gives you more rights

despite this limitation, you may use the software only as expressly permitted in

this agreement. In doing so, you must comply with any technical limitations in

the software that allow you to use it only in certain ways. For more

information, see the software documentation or contact Roland SG

Corporation. Except and only to the extent permitted by applicable law despite

these limitations, you may not:

• Work around any technical limitations in the software;

• Reverse engineer, decompile or disassemble the software;

• Make more copies of the software than speciﬁed in this

agreement;

• Publish the software for others to copy;

• Rent, lease or lend the software; or

• Use the software for commercial software hosting services.

Except as expressly provided in this agreement, rights to access the software on

this device do not give you any right to implement Microsoft patents or other

Microsoft intellectual property in software or devices that access this device.

You may use remote access technologies in the software such as Remote

Desktop to access the software remotely from another device. You are

responsible for obtaining any licenses required for use of these protocols to

access other software.

• Remote Boot Feature. If the Roland SG Corporation enabled

the device Remote Boot feature of the software, you may

(i) use the Remote Boot Installation Service (RBIS) tool

only to install one copy of the software on your server

and to deploy the software on licensed devices as part

of the Remote Boot process; and

(ii) use the Remote Boot Installation Service only for

deployment of the software to devices as part of the

Remote Boot process; and

(iii) download the software to licensed devices and use it on

them.

• Internet-Based Services. Microsoft provides Internet-based

services with the software. Microsoft may change or cancel

them at any time.

Consent for Internet-Based Services.

The software features described

below connect to Microsoft or service provider computer systems over the

Internet. In some cases, you will not receive a separate notice when they

connect. You may switch off these features or not use them. For more

information about these features, visit

By using these features, you consent to the transmission of this information.

Microsoft does not use the information to identify or contact you.

Computer Information.

The following features use Internet protocols,

which send to the appropriate systems computer information, such as your

Internet protocol address, the type of operating system, browser and name and

version of the software you are using, and the language code of the device

where you installed the software. Microsoft uses this information to make the

Internet-based services available to you.

An important notice regarding the software

Before Using the PR-1000HD

• Web Content Features. Features in the software can

retrieve related content from Microsoft and provide it to

you. To provide the content, these features send to

Microsoft the type of operating system, name and version

of the software you are using, type of browser and lan-

guage code of the device where the software was

installed. Examples of these features are clip art, tem-

plates, online training, online assistance and Appshelp.

These features only operate when you activate them. You

may choose to switch them off or not use them.

• Digital Certificates. The software uses digital certiﬁcates.

These digital certiﬁcates conﬁrm the identity of Internet

users sending X.509 standard encrypted information. The

software retrieves certiﬁcates and updates certiﬁcate

revocation lists. These security features operate only

when you use the Internet.

• Auto Root Update. The Auto Root Update feature updates

the list of trusted certiﬁcate authorities. You can switch

off the Auto Root Update feature.

• Windows Media Player. When you use Windows Media

Player, it checks with Microsoft for

• Compatible online music services in your region;

• New versions of the player; and

• Codecs if your device does not have the correct ones for

playing content. You can switch off this feature. For more

• Windows Media Digital Rights Management. Content

owners use Windows Media digital rights management

technology (WMDRM) to protect their intellectual prop-

erty, including copyrights. This software and third party

software use WMDRM to play and copy WMDRM-protected

content. If the software fails to protect the content, con-

tent owners may ask Microsoft to revoke the software's

ability to use WMDRM to play or copy protected content.

Revocation does not affect other content. When you

download licenses for protected content, you agree that

Microsoft may include a revocation list with the licenses.

Content owners may require you to upgrade WMDRM to

access their content. Microsoft software that includes

WMDRM will ask for your consent prior to the upgrade. If

you decline an upgrade, you will not be able to access

content that requires the upgrade. You may switch off

WMDRM features that access the Internet. When these

features are off, you can still play content for which you

have a valid license.

Misuse of Internet-based Services.

You may not use these services in

any way that could harm them or impair anyone else's use of them. You may

not use the services to try to gain unauthorized access to any service, data,

account or network by any means.

Windows Update Agent (also known as Software Update Services).

The

software on the device includes Windows Update Agent ("WUA") functionality

that may enable your device to connect to and access updates ("Windows

Updates") from a server installed with the required server component. Without

limiting any other disclaimer in this Micrososoft Software License Terms or any

EULA accompanying a Windows Update, you acknowledge and agree that no

warranty is provided by MS, Microsoft Corporation or their affiliates with

respect to any Windows Update that you install or attempt to install on your

device.

Contact Roland SG Corporation for support options.

Refer to the support number provided with the device.

Backup Copy

You may make one backup copy of the software. You may

use it only to reinstall the software on the device.

Proof Of License.

If you acquired the software on the device, or on a disc

or other media, a genuine Certificate of Authenticity label with a genuine copy

of the software identifies licensed software. To be valid, this label must be

affixed to the device, or included on or in Roland SG Corporation's software

packaging. If you receive the label separately, it is not valid. You should keep

the label on the device or packaging to prove that you are licensed to use the

software. To identify genuine Microsoft software, see

http://www.howtotell.com.

Transfer to a Third Party.

You may transfer the software only with the

device, the Certificate of Authenticity label, and these license terms directly to

a third party. Before the transfer, that party must agree that these license terms

apply to the transfer and use of the software. You may not retain any copies of

the software including the backup copy.

9. Not Fault Tolerant. The software is not fault tolerant. Roland SG Corporation

installed the software on the device and is responsible for how it operates on

the device.

Restricted Use.

The Microsoft software was designed for systems that do not

require fail-safe performance. You may not use the Microsoft software in any

device or system in which a malfunction of the software would result in

foreseeable risk of injury or death to any person. This includes operation of

nuclear facilities, aircraft navigation or communication systems and air traffic

control.

11.No Warranties for the Software. The software is provided "as is". You bear all

risks of using it. Microsoft gives no express warranties, guarantees or

conditions. Any warranties you receive regarding the device or the software do

not originate from, and are not binding on, Microsoft or its affiliates. When

allowed by your local laws, Roland SG Corporation and Microsoft exclude

implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-

infringement.

12.Liability Limitations. You can recover from Microsoft and its affiliates only

direct damages up to two hundred fifty U.S. Dollars (U.S. $250.00). You cannot

recover any other damages, including consequential, lost profits, special,

indirect or incidental damages.

This limitation applies to:

• Anything related to the software, services, content (includ-

ing code) on third party internet sites, or third party pro-

grams; and

• Claims for breach of contract, breach of warranty, guarantee

or condition, strict liability, negligence, or other tort to the

extent permitted by applicable law.

It also applies even if Microsoft should have been aware of the possibility of the

damages. The above limitation may not apply to you because your country

may not allow the exclusion or limitation of incidental, consequential or other

damages.

Export Restrictions.

The software is subject to United States export laws

and regulations. You must comply with all domestic and international export

laws and regulations that apply to the software. These laws include restrictions

BY DOWNLOADING AND/OR INSTALLING THE SOFTWARE YOU ARE

AGREEING TO BECOME BOUND BY THE TERMS OF THIS AGREEMENT,

INCLUDING THIS SOFTWARE PRODUCT LICENSE AND LIMITED

WARRANTY.

IMPORTANT READ CAREFULLY: This Elo TouchSystems? End-User License

Agreement ("EULA") is a legal agreement between you (either an individual or a

single entity) and Elo TouchSystems? for the software portion of this Elo

TouchSystems? touchscreen and controller or touchmonitor, which includes the

accompanying computer software, printed materials and any "online" or

electronic documentation ("SOFTWARE"). By installing, copying or otherwise

using the SOFTWARE, you agree to be bound by the terms of this EULA. User

must accept the terms of this agreement when prompted, in order to complete

download and/or installation of the software.

Software Product License

The SOFTWARE is protected by U.S. and international copyright laws and

treaties, as well as other intellectual property laws and treaties. The SOFTWARE

is licensed, not sold.

1. GRANT OF LICENSE. This EULA grants you the following rights:

* Software. You may install and use one copy of the SOFTWARE on a single

computer associated with a single Elo TouchSystems? touchscreen and controller

or touchmonitor..

* Storage/Network Use. You may also store or install a copy of the SOFTWARE

on a storage device, such as a network server, used only to install or run the

SOFTWARE on a client computer over an internal network; however, you must

acquire and dedicate a license for each individual client computer on which the

SOFTWARE is installed or run from the storage device, and each such client

computer must use an Elo TouchSystem?'s touchscreen and controller or

touchmonitor in conjunction with the SOFTWARE. A license for the SOFTWARE

may not be shared or used concurrently on different computers.

* Multiple Elo TouchSystems? Touchscreens and Controllers or Touchmonitors. If

you purchase multiple Elo TouchSystems? touchscreens and controllers or

touchmonitors, you may make one (1) copy of the SOFTWARE included with your

purchase, and you may use each copy in the manner specified above.

2. DESCRIPTION OF OTHER RIGHTS AND LIMITATIONS.

* Limitations on Reverse Engineering, Decompilation and Disassembly. You agree

not to reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble the SOFTWARE, except and

only to the extent that such activity is expressly permitted by applicable law

notwithstanding this limitation.

* Separation of Components. The SOFTWARE is licensed as a single product. Its

component parts may not be separated for use on more than one computer.

* Rental. You may not rent, lease, or sublicense the SOFTWARE.

* Software Transfer. You may permanently transfer all of your rights under this

EULA, provided you retain no copies, you transfer all of the SOFTWARE

(including all component parts, the media and printed materials, any upgrades,

this EULA and, if applicable, the certificate of Authenticity) along with the

accompanying Elo TouchSystems? touchscreen and controller or touchmonitor,

and the recipient agrees to the terms of this EULA. If the SOFTWARE portion is

an upgrade, any transfer must include all prior versions of the SOFTWARE.

* Termination. Without prejudice to any other rights, Elo TouchSystems? may

terminate this EULA if you fail to comply with the terms and conditions of this

EULA. In such event, you must destroy all copies of the SOFTWARE and all of its

component parts.

3. COPYRIGHT. All title and copyrights in and to the SOFTWARE (including but

not limited to any images, photographs, animations, video, audio, music, text and

"applets," incorporated into the SOFTWARE), the accompanying printed

materials, and any copies of the SOFTWARE, are owned by Elo TouchSystems? or

its suppliers. The SOFTWARE is protected by U.S. copyright laws and

international treaty provisions. Therefore, you must treat the SOFTWARE like any

other copyrighted material except that you may either (a) make one copy of the

SOFTWARE solely for backup or archival purposes, or (b) install the SOFTWARE

on a single computer provided you keep the original solely for backup or archival

purposes. You may not copy the printed materials accompanying the Elo

TouchSystems? touchscreen and controller or touchmonitor.

4. MEDIA SOFTWARE. You may receive the SOFTWARE in more than one

medium or by downloading from the Elo website. Regardless of the type, you may

use only one medium that is appropriate for your single computer. You may not

use or install the other medium on another computer. You may not loan, rent, leas,

or otherwise transfer the other medium to another use, except as part of the

permanent transfer (as provided above) of the entire Elo TouchSystems?

touchscreen and controller or touchmonitor.

5. U.S. GOVERNMENT RESTRICTED RIGHTS. The SOFTWARE and

documentation are provided with RESTRICTED RIGHTS. Use, duplication, or

disclosure by the Government is subject to restrictions as set forth in subparagraph

(c )(1)(ii) of the Rights in Technical Data and Computer Software clause at DFARS

252.227-7013 or subparagraphs (c )(1) and (2) of the Commercial Computer

shown by the display. Note, however, that your unit may incorporate a newer, enhanced

version of the system (e.g., includes newer sounds), so what you actually see in the display

may not always match what appears in the manual.

When First Operating the PR-1000HD

• If operating the PR-1000HD for the first time, please read “Basic Workflow” (p. 29). This

section provides a general overview of operations using the PR-1000HD, from turning on the

power to playing back and loading prepared data, in a manner that allows an easy grasp of

how the PR-1000HD works.

• Most of the procedures involve using the mouse or keyboard while viewing the PR-1000HD’s

screens. If you find you do not understand something during an operation, you can check the

We plan to expand the functionality of the PR-1000HD via updates. This means that otherwise

identical PR-1000HD units may differ in their functionality because of their software version. Before

About the Hard Disk Drive

The PR-1000HD uses separately available removable hard disk drive units for saving video and

storing the system. Hard disk drives do have a limited lifetime, and thus are considered a consumable

item. Depending on how the unit is handled, the hard disk drive may reach the end of its service life

sooner than expected. Please be sure to observe the following points to prevent loss of your important

creations.

• Back up your projects by using a removable hard disk drive unit (HDD Series).

• As much as possible, stop playback and keep access to the hard disk drive to a minimum

whenever playback of video images is not required.

• If the unit is moved frequently, save projects to an optional removable hard disk drive unit

(HDD Series), and transport the unit separately from the PR-1000HD, in the box that it came in

when purchased.

For more information regarding the removable hard disk unit (HDD Series), read “About the

Removable Hard Disk Drive Units” (p. 121).

Installing and Removing the Rack Mount Fittings

When mounting the PR-1000HD in a rack, please pay attention to the following to assure effective

cooling and avoid vibration.

• Install in a location with good air flow.

• Do not obstruct the cooling fan’s exhaust vent on the side of the device.

• Avoid mounting in closed-type racks. Because warm air cannot be exhausted from the rack,

efficient cooling cannot occur because warm air is taken in.

• When the back of the rack cannot be opened, please install an exhaust fan or vent in the

upper-rear portion of the rack, where warm air tends to collect.

• When mounting in a moveable case (portable rack), remove the front or back cover of the

case so the front or back of the PR-1000HD is not blocked.

• Avoid mounting in rigid-mount-type racks. Please use shock-proof-type racks to prevent

damages of PR-1000HD.

Be careful not to pinch fingers when attaching to a rack. Please also read “Placement” in “Important

Notes” (p. 6) for installation.

Cautions regarding removing the rack mount fittings

• Use a Phillips screwdriver of a size that matches the screw head (a number 2 Phillips

screwdriver). If you use the wrong size of screwdriver, you may damage the heads of the

screws.

• To remove the screws, turn the screwdriver in a counterclockwise direction. To tighten the

screws, turn the screwdriver in a clockwise direction.

• When removing the rack mount fittings, remove only the specified screws.

How to remove the rack mount fittings

Before removing the rack mount fittings, turn off power to this unit and to all

connected devices and then unplug the power cord and all connected cables.

Remove only the screws indicated in the next figure and then remove the rack

mount fittings. A total of 12 screws on the left and right are removed.

Replace the screws removed in Step 2 to their original location.

* To attach the rack mount fittings, follow the above procedure in reverse. After attaching, check again that

the fittings are attached correctly.

a. [POWER] Button

The power button of the PR-1000HD. To start up the PR-

1000HD, turn the rear panel power switch ON, then press

this button.

b. POWER Indicator

Lights when the PR-1000HD’s power is on.

c. Hard Disk Drive Indicator

Lights when the hard disk drive is being accessed.

d. USB Connector

Here you can connect a separately available USB mouse,

USB keyboard, USB memory card reader (e.g., DL-CR2), or

USB storage.

Connect devices here only when the PR-1000HD’s power is

turned off. You can connect to either of the two connectors.

However, you cannot connect two remote controllers

simultaneously.

e. i.LINK Connector

Here you can connect an IEEE 1394 connector from a video

camera or similar device, and capture a HDV or DV stream.

For more about capturing, refer to “Capturing Video from a

f. Headphone Jack [PHONES]

You can connect headphones and monitor the audio that the

PR-1000HD is outputting. Use the (g) LEVEL knob to adjust

the volume.

g. Volume Knob [LEVEL]

This knob adjusts the headphone volume.

h. Drive Bays

This panel covers the DVD/CD-ROM drive (i) and the

removable hard disk drive bays (j and k). To open the panel,

use your finger to pull the indentation located in the upper

right of the cover panel.

i. DVD/CD-ROM Drive and Eject Button

Used for loading data from DVD-R/DVD-RW/CD-R/CD-

RW disks containing material created using computers and

from future upgrade DVD/CD-ROMs. Press the eject

button to open the disk tray.

* For a detailed explanation regarding the discs that can be read, refer to

“Importing Materials Created with a Computer” (p. 78).

* The PR-1000HD’s DVD-ROM drive supports only reading from discs. It

cannot write discs.

j. Removable Hard Disk Drive Bay (1)

The optional removable hard disk drive unit (HDD Series) is

inserted here. You can store projects on dedicated drives,

back up data, and manage your data in the most suitable

manner.

* You cannot make use of the both removable hard disk drives

simultaneously on a project.

* Always turn off the power to the PR-1000HD before inserting or removing

the removable hard disk drive unit.

a. AUDIO OUTPUT Jacks (XLR type)

These are audio output jacks. Connect

them to your power amp or audio

system.

This instrument is equipped with

balanced XLR type jacks. Wiring

diagrams for these jacks are shown below. Make

connections after first checking the wiring diagrams of other

equipment you intend to connect.

b. AUDIO OUTPUT Jacks (RCA type)

These are audio output jacks. Connect them to your power

amp or audio system.

c. RS-232C Connector [RS-232C]

This connector allows the PR-1000HD to be connected to

your computer so that signals can be exchanged. For details,

refer to “Using the RS-232C Connector” (p. 95).

* You can also use this connector if you've connected a touch panel display.

In this case, you won't be able to use control functions via RS-232C

commands. For details, refer to “Using a Touch Panel Display” (p. 96).

For details on the touch panel displays that can be used, please contact

customer service.

d. LAN Connector

Here you can connect a network cable. For details, refer to

“Making the Network Settings” (p. 100).

e. USB Connector

Here you can connect a separately available USB mouse,

USB keyboard, USB memory card reader (e.g., DL-CR2), or

USB storage.

f. i.LINK Connector

Here you can connect a video camera or similar device via

an IEEE 1394 cable and capture a HDV stream.

h. ANALOG/DIGITAL Select Switch

g. This switch selects the video signal that is output from the

RGB OUTPUT connector. You can switch between digital

(DVI-D) and analog (DVI-A).

* Operate this switch only when the PR-1000HD is powered off.

i. MIDI OUT Connector

Transmits MIDI messages.

j. MIDI IN Connector

Receives MIDI messages.

* For more about MIDI, refer to “Capturing Video from a Video Deck or

Other Device” (p. 76).

k. AC Inlet (with power cord clamp)

For details on the power cord clamp, refer to “About the

power cord clamp” (p. 17).

l. Power Switch

This is the PR-1000HD’s power switch. Unless this switch is

ON, pressing the front panel [POWER] switch will not start

up the PR-1000HD.

m.Cooling Fan

n. DISPLAY OUT Connector

Here you can connect a PC monitor for use as the operating

display. You will need a monitor that supports XGA (1024 x

768) or higher resolution.

About the power cord clamp

The PR-1000HD’s AC inlet provides a power cord clamp, which prevents the power cord from being

accidentally disconnected. To secure the power cord, proceed as follows.

Connect the power cord to the AC inlet on the PR-1000HD’s rear panel.

Lift the power cord clamp up when doing so.

Lower the power cord clamp to secure the plug of the power cord.

power cord clamp, lower it until

you hear it click.

Before Using the PR-1000HD

Start by connecting the devices you will be using, such as video and audio devices used for output and

monitoring and the displays used for your operations. Whenever connecting devices, always be sure

to have the power turned off first. Connecting equipment with the power turned on may cause

malfunctioning and other problems.

If you want to connect HDV equipment, please use the IEEE1394 cable (DV cable, sold separately).

If you want to connect VTR equipment or HD equipment, please use the Edirol VC-300HD/VC-

200HD. This will allow various video formats to be converted into the optimal HDV format for capture

by the PR-1000HD.

• To prevent malfunction and/or damage to speakers or other devices, always turn down the

volume, and turn off the power on all devices before making any connections.

Connecting a removable hard disk drive unit

Connect removable hard disk drive units using the procedure described in “About the Removable

Hard Disk Drive Units” (p. 121).

Setting Up and Connecting Equipment

You can select either digital

(DVI-D) or analog (DVI-A or

VGA) as the output from the

RGB OUTPUT connector. Use

the ANALOG/DIGITAL select

switch to make this selection.

If you want to send the output

from the PR-1000HD’s RGB

Connecting HDV equipment

To connect HDV equipment or DV equipment, use an IEEE 1394 cable (DV cable) and make

connections as shown in the illustration.

* IEEE 1394 cables (DV cables) have either a 6-pin or a 4-pin connector, and the PR-1000HD’s connector is a 6-

pin type. Please obtain a cable that has the appropriate type of connectors.

• Electromagnetic interference produced by using the PR-1000HD near a television or radio

may cause unevenness in the TV screen picture color or produce noise in the radio.

• If connecting to a computer’s IEEE1394 connector (also called i.LINK or FireWire), be sure to

use a DV cable that is compatible with your computer.

Connecting to a Computer Over a Network

Connect using a LAN cable. Connecting to the computer over a network allows you to copy data from

the computer to the PR-1000HD and access a network time server to adjust the PR-1000HD’s timing.

* Whenever making these connections, always make sure that the power for all devices is turned off. Connecting

equipment with the power turned on may cause malfunctioning and other problems
