Capacitor-Free Signal Path
Theinputsoftheéloquence150iareDCcoupledandthereisnota
single capacitor in the signal path that the audio signal passes through,
improvinglow-frequencyresponseandlinearity.Therearenocapacitors
todegradeovertimeandhinderperformance,sotheamplierwillessen-
tiallysoundthesameyearsafteritsinitialpurchase.
Precision Volume Control
Theéloquence150iusesasolid-statesteppedattenuatorofferingprecise

Non-Invasive Balance Control

Infrared Remote Control
Thesuppliedinfrared(IR)remotecontrolofferscompletecontroloverthe
éloquence150iinasmallandfunctionalpackage.ExternalcontrolbyIR
isalsoofferedviatheIRinputontherearpanel,shouldtheamplierbe
insideacabinetoroutsideline-of-sightoftheremotecontrol.
Smart Home Integration
Theéloquence150icaneasilybeintegratedintoanysmarthome,using
theRS-232portattherearoftheamplierandinterfacingtodevices
fromthelikesofControl4™,AMX™andCrestron™.CoupledwiththeIR
input,smarthomeintegrationhasneverbeeneasier.

Theéloquence150iemploysseveralformsofprotection,bothforits
ownself-preservationaswellastheprotectionofloudspeakersand
othercomponentstowhichitisconnected.Theprotectionmechanisms
includeDCoffset,over-current,ACpower,internalDCfuseandthermal
protection.
Construction
Regardlessofthetechnologyused,numerousdetailsmustbeexecuted

Theéloquencerangeoffersoptionalphonoanddigital-to-analogue
converter(DAC)modules.Thephonomodulehasselectablegainandis
suitableforbothmovingmagnet(MM)andmovingcoil(MC)cartridges.
TheDACmoduleprovidesup-samplingto24-bit/192kHzandoffers
connectivityviacoaxial(BNC),optical(Toslink)andUSB.Additionof
these modules will ensure seamless integration into any current or future
system.

Unpacking

Werecommendyouretainthepackagingforreuseincaseyouneedto
transporttheunitatalaterdate.
Placement
Youréloquence150iintegratedampliershouldgenerallybeplacedclose
toyourprimarysourcecomponent,keepinginterconnectcablingshort.
Positionallothercomponentsofyoursystemcloseenoughtoyour150ito
avoidhavingtostretchorextendanyoftheinterconnectcables.
Ventilation Requirements
Youréloquence150irequiresdissipatingconsiderablepowerintheform
ofheat.Itshouldbeplacedinapositionthatdoesnotrestricttheairow
aroundit.
Asa“ruleofthumb”,allowatleast80mm(3inches)aboveandtoeachside
oftheunitandmounttheéloquence150ionaatsurfaceforaircirculation
toallowthisheattodissipate.Donotsitdirectlyontoacarpetedsurfaceas
itwillpreventtheheatsinksfromoperatingasdesigned
Itthedeviceisusedinacabinet,airmustbeabletoowthrough.An
enclosedcabinetwillseverelyrestrictheatdissipation.
Ensurethatnothingisplacedaboveorbelowtheamplierthatmightblock
orrestrictthevents.
Iftheéloquence150ihasinadequateventilationand/orisplayedvery
enthusiastically for a period of time, its temperature may rise above the
designatedoperatinglevelandtheover-temperatureprotectionwilltrip–
disconnectingtheoutputuntilithascooledsufciently.
Other Devices
Ideally,youréloquence150iintegratedampliershouldnotbelocated
directlyaboveoradjacenttootherheat-producingproductssuchasradia-
tors,otherpowerampliers,etc.Ifmultipleampliersarebeingusedand
spaceisrestricted,placingthemsidebysideispreferabletostacking.
Itisadvisabletopositionyouréloquence150iawayfrom(andifpossible,
connectedtoapowersocketonadifferentcircuitfrom)powerfulelectrical
orelectronicproductssuchasTVsets,computers,cookers,fridgesetc.
Thiswillpreventthepossibilityofthestrongelectricalandelectromagnetic
emissions or interference given off by such devices adversely affecting the
performanceofyouramplier.

Turn off associated components
Thisminimisesthepotentialtodamageyouréloquence150i,oranyother

Connect a source component
Forexample,connectthebalancedoutputsofyourCDplayertotheleft
andrightbalanced(XLR)inputsattherearofyouréloquence150i.
Connect loudspeaker cables
Connecttheleftandrightchannelloudspeakercablestotheappropriate
speakerbindingpostsattherearoftheamplier.
Switch on source component
Turnonthesourcecomponent,makingsureyouhaveyourfavourite
recordingreadytoplay.
Switch on your éloquence 150i
Aftercheckingthesupplyvoltagecompatibilitywiththevoltageratingon
the rear panel, insert the power cord supplied into the rear of the unit and
intothewallsocket.Switchontheamplierusingthebuttononthefront
panel.
Select the appropriate input
Usingthe/buttonsonthefrontpanelofyouréloquence150i,orthe
remote control, select the input to which the source component is con-
nected.

phonomoduleisavailablefromyourPerreauxdealer.Onceinstalledin
youréloquence150i,theInput1connectorsbecomeyourphonoinputs,
andthephonooptionsinthemenusystembecomeactive.
Input 4 / Theatre
Input4issetasahometheatreloop(HTLOOP)straightfromthefactory
andbypassesthevolumecontrol.Pleaseensurethevolumelevelofthe
connected processor or receiver is suitably attenuated before selecting this
input.
10 AC Mains Input
TheIECstandardACmainsinputisusedwiththeremovablepowercordto
supplyyouréloquence150iintegratedamplierwithpower.
PriortoconnectiontotheACmains,pleasecheckthevoltagelabelon
therearpaneltoensurethatyouramplierconformstothepowersupply
inyourarea.Neverattempttoconnecttheunittoanincorrectvoltage–
severedamagemayresult.
11 AC Mains Fuse
TheACmainsfuseisuserserviceable,andshouldalwaysbereplacedwith
thesametypeandrating(seeTechnicalSpecications,page27).
Notes: Fusesdonotusuallyblowwithoutareason.Anydoubtsaboutfuse
failureshouldbeconveyeddirectlytoyourPerreauxdealer.
Ensureyouréloquence150iisdisconnectedfromthemainspowerbefore
attemptingtochangethefuse.
12 Ground Terminal
Thegroundterminalonyouréloquence150iismostoftenusedforthe
groundwireofaturntable,ifyouhavetheoptionalphonopreamplier
installed.Connectingthegroundwirefromyourturntablestonearmtothis
terminalusuallyminimisesanyhumorbuzzingtowhichtheturntablemay
otherwisebesusceptible.YourauthorisedPerreauxdealercanassistyou
inhandlingthisproblemifitshouldarise.

1 Power Button
Thepowerbuttonconnectsanddisconnectstheamplierfromthemains
power.
2 Volume Control/Interface Knob
Rotatetoadjustthevolumeleveloftheloudspeakeroutputandthepreamp
output.ItdoesnotaffecttheTAPEoutput.
Thevolumeisraisedorloweredinprecise0.5dBincrementsthroughoutthe
entiregainrange.Thevolumeincrementwillincreasethefastertheknob
isrotated,makingiteasiertomovequicklybetweenextremelylowand
normallisteninglevels.
Note:Whenthehometheatreinput(HTLOOP)isselected,oraninputis
settobypassthevolumecontrol(seeBypass,page21),theinterfaceknob
willhavenoeffectonthevolumelevel.
Theinterfaceknobisalsousedinnavigatingtheéloquencemenusystem
(seeTheMenuSystem,page15).
3 Infrared Sensor
Receivesinfrared(IR)commandsfromthesuppliedremotecontrol.
Ordinarily,youréloquence150imusthaveunobstructedline-of-sightwith
theremotecontrolinordertorespondtoremotecontrolcommands.
Ifyourintegratedamplieristobeplacedinsideacabinet,youmayusethe
IRinputattherearoftheunit(seeIRInput,page10)tosolvetheproblem.
4 Front Panel Buttons
Usethesebuttonstocontrolyouréloquence150iintegratedamplier.They
arealsousedtonavigatetheéloquencemenusystemand,alongwiththe
interfaceknob,makeanychangestothesettings.
Note:Thefunctionofthesebuttonswilldifferdependingonwhichstatethe
amplierisin.

7 Volume Up and Down
Thevolumekeysadjustthevolumeoftheamplier.Thevolumeisadjusted
slowlyatrstandprogressivelyincreasesthelongerthevolumekeysare
held.Thisallowsbothneadjustmentswhilemakingiteasiertomove
quicklybetweenextremelylowandnormallisteninglevels.
Note:Whenthehometheatreinput(HTLOOP)isselected,oraninputis
settobypassthevolumecontrol(seeBypass,page21),thevolumekeys
willhavenoeffect.
8 Source Up and Down
Thesourcekeysscrollthroughthesourceinputs,providedtheyareenabled
(seeEnable,page19).Ifaninputisdisableditwillnotbeavailableforselec-
tionusingthesourcekeys,althoughitcanstillbeselectedusingthes-keys.

Themenusystemcanbeusedtoconguretheéloquence150itocustomiseaspectsofitsoperationto
suityourrequirements,tooperateinaparticulartypeofinstallation,ortoviewimportantfunctionaldata.
Home Screen
Thehomescreenprovideseasyaccesstothebasicfunctionsoftheintegratedamplier:volume
control,inputselectionandmute.Italsoprovidesaneasytoreadandhighlylegibledepictionofthe
selectedinputandcurrentvolumesetting.
Volume Control
Adjustthevolumesettingusingtheinterfaceknobonthefrontpanel(orusingtheremotecontrol).The
displaywillshowthevolumelevelindecibels(dB).Themaximumvolumesettingis+31.5dB,while
lowervolumesettingsprogressintothenegativerangewiththeminimumbeing-96.0dB.
Input Selection
Scrollthroughtheavailableinputsusingthe/buttonsonthefrontpanel(orusingtheremotecontrol).
Notes: Thelabelsfortheinputs,asdisplayedonthefrontpanel,canbecustomisedforyourconven-
ience(seeLabels,page18).
Disablinganinput(seeEnable,page19)removesitfromselectionbyscrollingfromthefrontpanelor
remotecontrol(althoughitisstillavailableforselectionviathemenusystemandtheremotecontrols-keys).
Mute
MutethevolumebypressingtheMUTEbuttononthefrontpanel(orusingtheremotecontrol).The
mutemodeisindicatedbythevolumelevelbeingreplacedwithMUTEDinthedisplay,whichashes
whilemutemodeisenabled.
Ifyouincreasethevolumewhilemuteisenabled,themutemodewillbecancelledandthevolumewill
increasefromthemutedlevel.Thisisasafetymeasuretoavoidsituationswherethevolumemightbe
increasedwhilemuted,onlytohavethesystemun-mutedtoanunexpectedlyhighvolume.
Whenmuteiscancelled,thevolumelevelreplacesMUTEDinthedisplayandstopsashing.
Notes: Ifthemutelevelissettoacustomisedsetting(seeMuteLevel,page21)thevolumelevelwill
beattenuatedbythisamountwhenmuteisenabled.Theattenuatedmodeisindicatedbythevolume
levelchangingtothereducedlevelinthedisplay,whichasheswhileattenuated.

Ifyoudecreasethevolumewhileattenuationisenabled,thevolumelevelwillreducewhilstremaining
intheattenuatedmode.
Whenmuteiscancelled,thevolumelevelwillincreasebythesetattenuationlevel.
