Important Safety Instructions, please read carefully!

•

This unit is meant to play back digital

audio files from CDs, USB and SD/MMC

memory cards, to receive radio program

and to play back and record compact

cassettes. Using it in any other way you

risk electric shock. This device may not

be used differently from the instructions in

this manual.

•

Never attempt to open the housing of

your CD radio recorder. All servicing or

repair must be referred to qualified

service personnel authorised by us.

•

To avoid the risk of electric shock never

use the product in humid areas or near

water - e.g. near a bathtub, washbowl,

kitchen sink, in a wet basement or near a

swimming pool, or the like.

•

This unit is intended for use with the

mains voltage of AC230V~ / 50 Hz or

battery power (8 x 1,5V). Never try to use

it with different voltage supply.

•

Proper air circulation around the

housing must be provided to avoid

overheating.

•

If objects have fallen inside or liquid

has been spilt onto the product disconnect

the plug from the mains immediately and

consult qualified service personnel.

•

Never let children play with the unit or

stick anything into it. Otherwise they face

the risk of electric shock.

•

Do not place the unit near strong

magnetic fields, water or heat.It

should not be exposed to direct sunlight

for a longer period. Avoid positions with

heavy dust or poor ventilation. The unit

should not be exposed to mechanical

vibrations or shock.

•

This product uses invisible

“Class-1- Laser”. Never expose

your eyes to this dangerous laser

beam.

•

If you switch off this unit, the device is not

disconnected from the mains.To

switch the unit off completely, unplug the

power cord from the wall outlet.

If you don’t use the product for a longer

period disconnect it from the mains.

•

For additional safety we recommend to

disconnect the unit from the mains during

a thunderstorm and when the unit is not

in use for a longer period.

•

If you transport the unit from cold to warm

conditions, condensation inside may

cause moisture leading to malfunctions.

If so please open the disc tray and wait

about 30 minutes, until the moisture has

evaporated.

•

After disconnection from the mains you

can use a soft damp cloth to clean the

housing. Don’t use strong cleansing

products.

27. Battery compartment

Power supply

You can operate this device with the mains voltage of AC230V~ / 50 Hz, or with battery

power.

Mains operation

Connect the mains cord provided to a properly wired wall outlet with a voltage of AC230V~ /

50 Hz and to the mains socket on the rear panel of the unit. Now the device is operational.

Battery operation

Open the battery compartment on the bottom side of the unit. Insert 8 x 1.5V UM-1 "D" size

batteries (not supplied) into the compartment according to the insertion instructions in the

battery compartment. Observe the correct polarity of the batteries, as otherwise the device

may suffer damage. Due to their longer service life, we recommend you to use alkaline

batteries. Close the compartment again. Now the device is operational.

Batteries must not be thrown in the household waste. Please take used

batteries to the respective collecting points or take them there where

you have bought the new ones. Do not throw batteries into the fire.

General operation

Switch on the device by pressing the POWER button. Press the FUNCTION button

repeatedly in order to select the sound source that is to be played. The respective operating

mode is shown on the display:

“CDP” for CD playback,

“USB” for playback of USB storage media,

“SD” for the playback of memory cards,

“TUNER” for radio reception, or

“TAPE” for cassette operation..

Press the POWER button again in order to switch off the device. With the help of the

VOLUME buttons you can set the volume as requested. When you keep the VOLUME +

button pressed, the volume will increase. When you keep the VOLUME — button pressed,

the volume will decrease. The respective value (0 - 32) is shown on the display.

Headphone Operation

You can connect a headphone to the PHONE jack at the rear end in the device using a

3.5mm jack plug. This deactivates the build-in speakers.

Be careful with regard to your hearing. A too high volume may lastingly impair the

hearing ability of your ears.

Press the EQ button repeatedly in order to call up the sound pre-settings (CLASSIC, ROCK,

POP, JAZZ) one after the other. Select “FLAT” if you want to avoid any influence on the

sound.

Supported Formats

Normally, WMA files are played with the help of Windows Media Player 8 or Windows Media

Player for Windows XP. Such files have the extension *.wma.

This device can play both MP3 and WMA files. WMA files that are coded with DRM copy

protection (Digital Rights Management) cannot be played. WMA is the abbreviation for

Windows Media Audio and has been developed from a technology for audio compression of

the company Microsoft. (“Windows” and “Windows Media Player” are registered trademarks

of the Microsoft Corporation).

When naming the MP3 or WMA files, make sure the files are named with the correct file

extensions (*.mp3 or *.wma). Otherwise the files are not played correctly or cannot be

played at all. In order to avoid malfunctions and damage to your devices, you must never

use the above mentioned file extensions for other files.

Files and folders are displayed and played by their names (without file extension) in

alphabetical order.

CD/MP3 operation

This device plays generally audio CDs as well as CD-R(W) media burnt with a PC. Playback

of MP3 files is supported. Due to the various types of blank CDs, PC types, operating

systems, burning software and methods, we cannot guarantee that every burnt CD will be

played immaculately. The device does not play CD-ROMs or DVD media.

How to handle CDs

Only touch CDs at the edges to avoid finger prints and dirt.

Clean dirty CDs carefully with a soft non-fluff cloth by wiping from the

middle to the outside. Avoid circulating movements! Do not use any

solvents as this may damage the CD.

Do not use any inscriptions and labels on your CDs. This could

damage the CD or lead to unbalance which might impair playback and the

device.

CD playback

Press the FUNCTION button until “CDP READ” is shown on the display. This means that the

device is trying to read the disc. If no CD is found, the display will show “NO DISC”.

Open the CD compartment by carefully pressing on the „OPEN/CLOSE” field. The

carrying handle must be laid down completely. Insert a CD with the label side up onto the

spindle of the CD plate. Use two fingers to carefully press the middle of the CD onto the

spindle of the CD plate until it locks in place with a click.

Close the CD compartment by carefully pushing down the cover of the CD compartment

and slightly push the „OPEN/CLOSE” area until it clicks into place. The device is then

reading the CD. Now the display shows the total number of tracks on the CD.

Display with inserted CD: Display with inserted MP3-CD:

Press the PLAY/PAUSE button to start playback. The display now shows on the

left-hand side the track that is being played and on the right-hand side the elapsed track

playing time. Press this button again to pause the playback. The pause symbol ;

appears. Pressing this button again continues the playback process.

Press the STOP button to stop playback. Now the display shows the total number of

tracks on the CD and their total playing time.

Please always press the STOP button first before opening the CD compartment.

During MP3 playback, you can have displayed the information concerning track names,

interpreter and the album (“ID3-Tag” function) that is stored on the file by pressing the

INFO/MO/ST button.

Select tracks

—

Briefly press the SKIP/SEARCH +orSKIP/SEARCH - button before or during

playback in order to select the previous or subsequent track. The display shows your

selection.

—

Keep one of these two buttons pressed to activate the search function (high-speed

playback). If the desired location is reached, release the button to resume normal

playback. When the search function is activated, the device is muted.

— Press the M-UP/ FILE+ button in order to switch to the next folder during MP3 playback.

During the playback of audio CDs this button has no function. Press the ESP/DIR button

twice in order to have the name of the current folder displayed.

You can have the MP3 tracks displayed by their initial letters and then select them easily.

Press the ESP/DIR button once. The display now shows “A:” on the left-hand side,

followed by the first track name starting with “A”. If the display shows “A:NOFILE”, the

device cannot find a track name starting with “A”.

With the help of the SKIP/SEARCH +/— buttons you can now change the initial letter and

thus the search criterion. When the desired track is displayed, press the PLAY/PAUSE button

in order to play this track.

Select playback options for audio CDs

If you press the P-MODE button once during playback, “REPEAT” will be indicated on the

display and the track currently being played will be repeated.

—

After pressing this button twice, the whole CD will be repeated and the “REPEAT ALL”

indicator on the display is constantly lit.

—

Press the P-MODE button again to activate the intro mode. The display shows “INTRO”

and the first ten seconds of each track will be played. (When the desired track is played,

press the P-MODE button twice in order to resume normal playback.)

—

Press the P-MODE button again in order to activate the random mode. “RANDOM” is then

shown on the display and the tracks will be played in random order.

—

Press the P-MODE button again in order to resume normal playback.

Select playback options for MP3 discs

—

If you press the P-MODE button once during playback, “REPEAT” will flash on the display,

and the track currently being played will be repeated.

—

If you press this button twice, the display shows “REPEAT ALL” and all tracks of the disc

will be repeated.

—

If you press the P-MODE button three times, “REPEAT FOLDER” on the display is

constantly lit and all tracks within the current folder will be repeated.

—

Press the P-MODE button again to activate the intro mode. The display shows “INTRO”

and the first ten seconds of each track will be played. (When the desired track is played,

press the P-MODE button twice in order to resume normal playback.)

—

Press the P-MODE button again in order to activate the random mode. “RANDOM” is then

shown on the display and the tracks will be played in random order.

—

Press the P-MODE button again in order to resume normal playback.

Playback in programmed order

You can programme the playback of tracks in a special sequence of up to 32 tracks selected

by yourself.

To select the tracks for your individual sequence, stop playback first and press the

MEMORY button. The display is now showing „MEMORY“. „

P-01 001” indicates that you

now can enter the first track.

Now use the SKIP/SEARCH +/— buttons to select the first track that you would like to

store.

Press the MEMORY button in order to store the track. „P-02” on the display indicates that

you now can store the second track. Repeat the above steps until all desired tracks have

been stored.

Press the PLAY/PAUSE button to start the playback of the programmed sequence.

To delete the programmed sequence press the STOP button twice, open the CD

compartment or activate another programme source. The “PROGRAM” indication on the

display will go out.

ESP function

The device is equipped with an intermediate memory. In case of vibrations during CD

playback the intermediate memory ensures trouble-free playback for 15 seconds. Press the

ESP/Dir button to activate this function. Press this button again to switch off this function.

This will slightly reduce the power consumption during battery operation.

USB / SD-MMC Flash Memory Playback

The device is equipped with a card slot for flash memory cards of the formats SD

and MMC a USB 1.1 connection. You can use this interfaces for playing MP3 and

WMA files.

Connect the USB storage medium with the USB connection or insert a SD or MMC card

with the label side pointing to the rear into the card slot until it clicks into place.

Press the FUNCTION button repeatedly until “USB” and/or “CARD” is briefly shown on the

display.

The device is now reading the medium. Then the display shows the number of tracks

contained on this medium, the designation of the memory source (USB or SD) and the

file formats found (MP3 or WMA).

Press the PLAY/PAUSE button in order to start playback. The display then shows the track

number and the elapsed track playing time.

Further operation is identical with the playback of MP3-CDs, see page 8.

Stop playback before removing the storage medium. Remove the USB device and/or

push carefully on the memory card until it unlocks with a click. Now you can remove the

card.

Note: Due to the various different formats, specifications and manufacturers of

flash memory media, we cannot guarantee that every storage medium can be

played. It is not possible to play hard disks that are connected to the USB

connection.

Radio operation

Press the FUNCTION button repeatedly until “TUNER” is shown on the display.

For FM reception you need to pull out the telescope antenna on the rear side of the unit.

Turn the antenna to find the best antenna orientation.

For AM reception the device has a built-in antenna. If AM reception is noisy or distorted,

please turn the unit to find the best orientation.

Press the BAND button in order to select the desired frequency range FM (VHF) or AM

(MW), depending on which frequency range you would like to hear the radio stations.

Select the radio channels with the help of the SKIP/SEARCH — or SKIP/SEARCH +

buttons. Press the + button briefly in order to manually search for radio channels on a

higher frequency than the one currently shown on the display. Press the — button briefly

in order to manually search for radio channels on a lower frequency than the one

currently shown on the display.

When you keep the — or + button pressed for one second, the upward or downward

channel search will start. When a radio channel with sufficient signal strength has been

found, the channel search is stopped and the channel is played.

During the reception of VHF stereo broadcasts, the indication is lit on the display.

In case of MONO broadcasts or poor or noisy reception, press the INFO/MO/ST button in

order to switch to mono and thus improve the sound quality.

Storing radio stations

The device has 12 programme memory locations (6 x VHF, 6 x MW) where you can store

your favourite radio stations. This is done as follows:

Tune the first radio channel you want to store.

Press the MEMORY button to start the storing process.

Select the desired memory location by repeatedly pressing the M-UP/FILE+ button.

Press the MEMORY button again to store the radio channel.

Repeat this procedure for your other favourite radio channels.

You can call up the stored radio channels one after the other by repeatedly pressing the

M-UP/ FILE+ button.

Cassette operation

Do not use C-120 tapes or very cheap tapes. This may lead to malfunctioning and tape

spillage. Before inserting a tape please ensure that the tape reels run smoothly and that

there are no tape loops. Otherwise this might result in tape spillage.

The tapes are equipped with plastic clips which can be removed to secure recordings against

re-recording or erasing (see Fig.). The resulting deepening may be covered with adhesive

tape to re-record the tape.

ATTENTION!

When you have removed the erase protection, the record

button will be locked and cannot be pressed! These plastic

clips are also removed in commercial music tapes.

Play Tapes

Press the FUNCTION button repeatedly until “TAPE” is shown on the display.

Press the button / STOP/EJ. The cassette compartment opens, and you can insert a

recorded tape with tape opening upwards into the cover bracket. The full tape reel

should be on the right side.

Carefully close the cover by slighting pressing down the cover of the cassette

compartment. Press the play / PLAY button . The tape will be played.

If you want to interrupt the playback for a short time only, press the / PAUSE button.

If you press this button again, the playback will continue.

You may discontinue the playback by pressing the / STOP/EJ. button.

Fast Forward and Rewind

You can run forward and rewind the stopped tape. Use the / F.FWD button for fast

forward and the / REW button for fast rewind. When you have reached the desired tape

position, press the / STOP/EJ. button to stop the process. Never use the fast forward or

rewind functions during playback. This may cause damage to the tape.

Record Tapes

Put a cassette into the compartment: The side to be recorded must be visible from the

outside. The full tape reel has to be on the right side. Any previous recordings will be

overwritten. Please keep in mind that the first centimetres of the tape material are not

recordable.

You need not pay attention on the level control – the recording automatics will regulate the

best possible level control. The volume control has therefore no impact on the recording.

Select the sound source you would like to record (CD/USB/SD or RADIO). For recordings

with the integrated microphone, select TAPE as a sound source. Prepare the CD

component or the radio for playing in accordance with these instruction.

Press the Pause / PAUSE button, then the record / REC button. The / PLAY

button will also click into place. In order to start recording, press the PAUSE button again

to release it.

The / STOP/EJ. button discontinues the recording.

Automatic Tape Stop

When in the process of recording or playback the end of the tape is reached, the tape stops

automatically and the relevant button is released.

Cleaning

In order to avoid tape transport errors you should regularly clean the parts of the cassette

recorder which have contact with the tape. Either use a cleaning cassette available from

specialized dealers or clean the parts shown below manually. For this, you will need a cotton

bud soaked in spirit or a lint-free cotton cloth. Never use hard or metallic items for cleaning:

this would damage the device.

Unplug the device, open the cassette department and press the / PLAY and

/ PAUSE buttons without a cassette being inserted. Begin the cleaning.

Disposal advice

When the operating life of this device has ended it must not be disposed as

domestic waste, but in accordance with national environmental guidelines.
