The Mains plug is used as the disconnect device. The Mains plug shall remain readily

operable to disconnect the plug in case of an accident.

While using the compact power adapter, do not wrap it or cover it with a piece of cloth,

and do not place it in confined narrow spaces. Heat may build up, the plastic case may

deform and it could result in electric shock or fire.

CA-570 identification plate is located on the bottom.

Using any device other than the Compact Power Adapter CA-570 may

damage the camcorder.

About the Camcorder’s PDF Instruction Manual

This guide will get you started and show you how to use the most basic

functions of your camcorder to shoot video, take photos and play back

your recordings (using the camcorder or connecting it to your TV). To learn

more about the more advanced functions of your camcorder, to read

important handling precautions and to consult the troubleshooting section

if an error message is displayed, be sure to read the full instruction

manual, included as a PDF file in the Instruction Manual/Music Data

CD-ROM*.

1 Turn on the computer.

2 Insert the Instruction Manual/Music Data CD-ROM into

the computer’s disc drive.

3 Open [My Computer].

Windows Vista users: Open [Computer] instead.

4 Right-click the drive in which you inserted the CD-ROM and

select [Open].

5 Open the [MANUAL] folder and then the [ENGLISH] folder.

The PDF file is located in this folder. For easy access later, you can

copy the PDF file to your computer’s desktop.

2Recording program: Recording programs allow you to change various

picture-related settings to your preference, or to use a Special Scene

recording program to apply the camcorder settings most appropriate for

a variety of situations ( 41, 42).

3White balance: Change the setting so different lighting conditions do not

affect the colors in your recordings and white objects look truly white

Image stabilizer

: The stabilizer is activated by default and will compensate for

a normal degree of camcorder shake so you can get beautiful, steady

status of a battery pack. The Intelligent System will display the charge

status (as a percentage) and the remaining recording time (in minutes)

for 5 seconds. If the battery pack is exhausted, the battery information

may not be displayed.

Charging the Battery Pack

The camcorder can be powered with a battery pack or directly using the

compact power adapter. When you use the compact power adapter, the

power of the battery pack will not be consumed. Charge the battery pack

before use.

Connect the compact

power adapter.

1Connect to the adapter.

2Plug into a power outlet.

Connect the camcorder.

1Plug into the DC IN terminal.

Insert the battery pack.

1 Slide in the direction of the arrow and open. 2 Push the battery pack

into the compartment. 3 Securely close the cover.

Charging the Battery Pack

Charging will start when the camcorder is turned off.

1Flashes while the battery pack is being charged.

2Goes out when the battery pack is fully charged.

Charging the supplied BP-808 Battery Pack will take approximately 2 hours

20 minutes. A fully charged battery pack will allow for the following

operations:

• About 1 hour 40 minutes of typical recording (recording movies in XP mode

on a memory card).

• / / About 1 hour 45 minutes of typical recording

(recording movies in XP mode in the built-in memory).

• About 4 hours 35 minutes of playback (movies recorded in XP mode on a

memory card).

All given times are approximate and vary according to recording mode and

charging, recording or playback conditions.

Charging the Battery Pack

IMPORTANT

•The battery pack will be charged only when the camcorder is off.

•Turn off the camcorder before disconnecting the compact power adapter.

After turning off the camcorder, important data is updated in the memory.

Be sure to wait until the ON/OFF (CHG) indicator goes out.

•We recommend charging the battery pack in temperatures between 10 °C

and 30 °C . Outside the temperature range of 0 °C to 40 °C , charging will

not start.

•Do not connect to the camcorder’s DC IN terminal or to the compact power

adapter any electrical equipment that is not expressly recommended for

use with this camcorder.

•Do not connect the supplied compact power adapter to voltage converters

or special power sources such as those on aircraft, DC-AC inverters, etc.

NOTES

•If remaining battery time is an issue, you can power the camcorder using

the compact power adapter so the battery pack will not be consumed.

•Charged battery packs continue to discharge naturally. Therefore, charge

them on the day of use, or the day before, to ensure a full charge.

•We recommend that you prepare battery packs to last 2 to 3 times longer

than you think you might need.
