1 Introduction

Thank you for choosing the X-Micro Video MP3. This innovative new MP3 player lets you

play music videos and other video files, or display personal photos, on its crystal clear

color display. The Video MP3 also plays MP3 music files, displays lyrics, receives and

records FM radio, offers digital voice recording, and functions as a USB flash drive.

2 Installation

Connect the Video MP3 to a computer and the following screen appears:

When writing & reading data the following screen appears:

Note: Do not disconnect the Video MP3 from the PC while it is reading or writing or

data loss may occur.

2.1 Windows 2000/XP Operating System

An installation program installs tools for the Video MP3.

1. Insert the Installation CD into your PC’s CD-ROM.

2. An autorun interface appears. Click the Installation icon and this window appears:

3. Click the Next button and follow the wizard until this window appears:

4. Click the Finish button and installation is complete.

Note: If you do not have Windows Media Player 9.0, the install shield automatically

installs the Windows Media Player 9.0 to your system.

Attach the X-Micro Video MP3 directly to your computer’s USB interface. The system

recognizes it automatically and a “Removable Disk” icon appears in the “My Computer”

window. The X-Micro Video MP3 functions the same as a removable disk.

3 Uninstall

3.1 Uninstall in Windows 2000/XP

1) Double click the icon “pull out or eject the hard disk” on the bottom right taskbar, as

below:

2) Choose “USB Mass Storage Device”

3) Click “Stop”

4) Click “OK” when the system indicates “USB Mass Storage Device equipment can be

removed safely from the system”, and you can pull out the X-Micro Video MP3 safely.

4 Operation

In the menu mode, press the Mode key to confirm a selection or enter a submenu; press

the Play button to cancel a submenu or exit the menu mode.

4.1 HOLD Function

The HOLD function locks the buttons to prevent accidentally pressing a wrong button.

• Move the HOLD switch on the side of the player to HOLD. A lock icon on the LCD

panel is displayed:

• Move the switch to OFF and the lock icon on the display disappears.

Note: You should switch the HOLD function OFF before powering on the Video MP3.

4.2 Power ON / OFF

Before you power on the player make sure the Hold button is off.

• Press the Play (

) button 2-3 sec to power on.

• Press the Play button 3-5 sec to power off.

• In standby mode, the player enters screen save mode automatically when the

device is not operated for 30 seconds.

4.3 Play media files

After you turn on the MP3 Player or connect the player to a computer, press and hold

the Play button to enter standby mode. Press the Play button again to start music play,

as in the following screen:

• In Play mode, press the

or button to select the next or previous

song.

• Press the Play button to stop, pause, or replay media files.

• You can change the repeat mode, EQ, or A –B replay mode only when you are

playing MP3 and WMA files.

• Press the Mode button to enter menu mode when you are playing an MP3 or

WMA file.

4.4 A-B Replay

The A-B replay mode lets you set and play a song loop. This mode only functions with

MP3 or WMA files.

• Press the REC/A-B button to select starting point A. When the letter B blinks press

the REC/A-B button again to select the ending point and play the song snippet

you select.

• To cancel A-B replay mode, press the REC/A-B button again.

4.5 Volume Control

When playing a file or in standby, press the VOL+ or VOL– button to adjust the volume.

The screen shows the following:

4.6 Main Menu

While in standby mode or playing a MP3/WMA file, press the Mode button to enter the

Main Menu. This menu contains 9 items. Press

or to select a menu item, and

press the Mode button to confirm your selection. Press the Play button to exit the menu

mode.

LCD Set adjusts the

LCD’s brightness.

Disk Manage sets disk

management functions.

Record Set selects the

record type.

Enter e-book mode to

read e-books

Equalizer sets EQ type. FM Radio mode for FM

radio functions.

LCD Set

In menu mode select LCD Set and press the Menu button to confirm. The LCD Set

submenu appears:

• Brightness: Select “Bright” to enter the brightness adjust interface. Press the

Next or Prev buttons to adjust LCD brightness, and then press the Mode button to

confirm.

• Power Saving Mode 1: Select “Power 1” and press the Mode button to confirm. If

no buttons are pressed, the screen turns dark after 5 seconds.

• Power Saving Mode 2: Select “Power 2” and press the Mode button to confirm. If

no buttons are pressed, the screen displays nothing after 5 seconds.

• Normal: Select this option to cancel Power Saving mode.

4.8 Record Set

For voice recording, set the recording type in the Record Set menu. When you enter

Record Set menu, the following screen appears:

• REC (WAV): High quality recording with good sound but the file is large. The

recorded file type is WAV.

• REC (ASF): Low quality recording with acceptable sound. Records for a longer

time with a smaller file. The recorded file type is ASF.

To record:

• In standby mode, press the REC button to start recording anytime.

• Press the Play button to save recorded files and enter Voice play standby mode,

as shown in the following screens:

• To pause the recording, press the REC button and to resume the recording press

the Play button.

To play:

• After saving the recording file, the player enters Voice play standby mode. Press

the Play button to begin voice play.

Note: In voice play standby mode, press and hold the Mode button to switch from voice

play mode to media file play mode.

4.9 Equalizer

When playing an MP3 or WMA file, or when the player is in standby mode, press the

Mode button to enter menu mode and select “EQ Set” to set Equalizer mode:

• Press the Mode button to enter EQ setting mode:

• The Equalizer has 7 EQ modes: Jazz, Rock, Classic, Pop, Soft, DBB and Natural.

Change the EQ mode using the “

” and “ ” buttons.

4.10 Repeat Set

When playing an MP3 or WMA file, or when the player is in standby mode, press the Mode

button to enter menu mode and select “Repeat Set” to set repeat mode:

• Press the Mode button to enter the Repeat Set submenu:

• Change repeat modes from Normal to Introduce, Repeat All, Random or Repeat

One using the

or buttons. Press the Mode button to confirm your

selection.

• In Introduce mode, each MP3 song plays for only ten seconds.

Language

In menu mode select Language and press the Menu button to confirm. The Language

submenu appears:

• English: Select “English” to display English characters in the menus.

Disk Manage

In menu mode select Disk Manage and press the Menu button to confirm. The Disk

Manage submenu appears:

Use the Disk Manage items as follows:

• Del file: Select the file you wish to delete using the Next and Prev buttons and

press the Mode button to confirm. Press any other button to cancel. To delete

MP3/WMA files the player must be in Music mode. To delete record files the play

must be in voice mode.

• Format -H: This item fast formats the player. Your data settings such as font file,

back light time, volume, language are retained.

• Format -L: This item performs a slower format that clears all data in the player.

Note: Backup your important data before formatting the player.

• Memory information: Select this item and press the Mode button to show the

total memory size and spare memory size. The player may take some time to

calculate spare memory size.

4.13 E-Book Read

To read an e-Book, first download the text file to the DVR directory.

• Select the menu item “Read BOOK” to enter reading mode.

• To read a book:

1. Press the Prev and Next buttons to select the file you wish to read. Press

the Mode button to confirm.

2. Press the Prev and Next buttons to read different pages of the file.

3. Press the Mode button to exit the current file and you can select another

file to read.

FM Radio

In menu mode select FM Radio and press the Menu button to confirm. The FM Radio

submenu appears:

Use the Video MP3 Player to select different broadcasts and listen to FM Radio.

• Adjust Volume: Press and hold VOL+/VOL- to adjust volume (0~32 levels).

• Select Radio Station: Use the Next/Prev buttons to select preset broadcasting

stations from 1~30 in search mode, as in the following screen:

• Adjust Frequency: Press VOL-/VOL+ to adjust broadcast frequency.

• Save Radio Station: After finding a good station, press the Play button to save it. This

also overwrites currently saved stations.

• Exit FM: Press and hold the Mode button to exit FM.

• Search Mode: Press the Mode button to switch to Search Mode.

• Listening Mode: Press Mode button to switch to Listen Mode.

4.14.1 Search Mode

• Search station mode: In FM Radio mode, press the Mode button and select

Search Mode.

o Use the Next/Prev buttons to select among preset stations.

o Use the Vol+/Vol- buttons to adjust the frequency.

o Press the Play button to save the current station.

• Automatic search station: In Search Mode, press the Vol-/Vol+ buttons for 2

seconds to automatically search stations (87.5~108 MHZ). When a station is

found, the LCD displays “Save?” Press the Play button to save the station and

add it to the preset station index.

4.15 My Picture

4.15.1 Picture Viewer

To view pictures on the player you must copy your PIC files to the DVR directory.

• Select My Picture from the main menu:

• File names, frames, and other attributes of the PIC files are displayed.

• Press the Mode button to view a PIC. Use Next and Prev buttons to select

PIC files to display.

• Cancel PIC view mode by pressing the Mode button or Play button.

4.15.2 Set Start Logo

If you wish to have a favorite picture appear when the Video MP3 starts:

• Go to the PIC file and press and hold the VOL+ button. “Install Logo” appears

on the LCD to confirm that you have set this file as your start logo.

• To uninstall a start logo, just delete the PIC file in the DVR directory.

4.15.3 Set Screen Saver

To set a picture as a screen saver:

• Go to the PIC file and press and hold the VOL– button. “Install Scre” appears

on the LCD to confirm that you have set this file as your screen saver.

• This PIC appears as the screen saver when the player is idle.

• To uninstall the screen saver, just delete the PIC file in the DVR directory.

4.16 Lyric Display

The X-Micro Video MP3 lets you view the lyrics to your favorite songs, while they play.

4.16.1 Making a lyric file

There are two ways to make a lyric file:

1. Use Word Pad software to edit the lyric

1. Use professional lyric software to edit.

With either software you must edit the lyric according to the song’s playing time. The

format uses minutes (mm), seconds (ss) and milliseconds (fff) and looks like this: [mm:ss]

or [mm:ss.fff].

To edit lyrics with Word Pad:

• Edit your lyrics as in the example above.

• Save your file using the file extension *.lrc for the file name and choose ALL

FILES for file type.

o File Name: xxx.lrc (make sure you use .lrc as an extension)

o File Type: All Files (make sure to select All Files and not Text File)

4.16.2 Lyric file display

The name of song file must be the same as the name of the lyric file, and the two files

must be in the same folder. The song file extension can be *.mp3 or *.wma, but the

extension for lyric files must be *.lrc.

Example: yesterday once more.mp3 and yesterday once more.lrc

5 Software Tools

The accessory programs you installed to your computer from the Installation CD include

the PIC Make and MPX Make tools. The PIC Make tool formats PIC files, and the MPX

Make tool formats MPX files, that are suitable for playing on the Video MP3 player.

5.1 Using MPX Make

The MPX Make tool formats MPX files from Microsoft Windows Media Player files

(*.wmv,*.wma,*.asf), Mpeg files (*.mpg, *.mpeg) and AVI files (*.avi).

1. Select MPXTOOLS from Programs in the Start menu, see below:

2. When using this software for the first time, you must input the serial number to enable

the software. You can find the serial number on the accessory disk or in the manual.

3. Open MPX MAKE and the following screen appears with these options:

Add File: add media files to the file

list. Click this icon and a browse

window appears for you to select

media files.

Convert: select this icon to convert

the selected media files to MPX files.

Delete File: delete selected media

files from the file list.

Cancel: click this icon to cancel the

current make MPX file task.

Set: select this icon to enter a setup

window and make settings.

Help: click this icon to show you the

help file for MPX Make.

Save Path: click the browse icon and

set a directory to save MPX files to.

4. To convert several files at once, select the files by pressing the CTRL or ALT key at the

same time.

5.2 Using PIC Make

The PIC Make tool converts files to PIC file format for viewing in the Video MP3.

Open the PIC Make tool and the interface below appears:

• Load Image: Select this button and a file browse window appears where you can

select a PIC file to import. Each PIC file you import shows in the bottom PIC

display frame area where you can choose to delete or import the image

• Capture: Check the Cyc Captu box for continuous screen captures.

1. Double click the left mouse button to capture one screen image at a time.

2. After capturing screens, click the right mouse button and select Exit to exit

capture screen operations.

• Save: After importing a PIC file or captured screen, click this button to save the

PIC file. A prompt asks for a directory to save in.

• Play Rate: Set the play rate of the PIC by entering a number in this box. A large

play rate may cause the PIC to display faintly.

• Insert to: Insert a PIC by entering a number in this box between the start point

and end point.

• Insert: After inputting the insert number, click this button to insert the PIC file.

• Delete: Select a PIC in the frame area and click this button to delete the file.

6 Safety Precautions

Important Notice: Any violation of one or more of the following precautions may

damage the player and will void the warranty.

• Confirm that the Hold button on the player is off before you turn on the unit.

• Confirm that the battery is sufficient to power on the machine.

• Avoid exposure to heat, moisture and static electricity.

• Do not drop or place heavy objects on the player.

• Vibration or shock may damage the unit.

• Do not place the player in or near any liquids.

• Avoid areas of high humidity, strong magnetic fields or high heat when storing

the unit.

• Do not use paint thinner, alcohol, or benzene when cleaning the unit. This may

change the color of the player or damage the surface. Use a soft towel to clean

the surface of the player.

• To avoid damage to the unit never open the case.

• Do not expose to excess heat (over +140°F). Avoid exposure to direct sun. Do

not leave in a warm car, especially during the summer season.

• When uploading or downloading files from your PC, we strongly recommend

that you do not disconnect the player from the computer until the blinking

display stops. If you unplug the unit when the display is blinking, you may lose

your data.

• We strongly recommend that you frequently back up your data for safety.
