A wind that smelled of brimstone rushed out
of the great beast’s nostrils as Thumbles inched
closer to the gold and silver carelessly mounded
around the cavern.
At last, the Dragon Flagon! thought the
thief, snatching the heavy goblet.
He was barely able to fi t it into
his pack by taking out his
spare breeches and
half his trail rations.
I’ll eat when I’m
rich, he thought,
and turned around.
A giant red eye
was staring directly
at him.
